Swansea City : McBurnie update as all roads currently lead to nowhere Sunday, 7th Jul 2024 08:00 by Keith Haynes The news of Macaulay Langstaff having a medical at Millwall yesterday afternoon didn’t come as a surprise, the fact the Swans didn’t further their interest in the striker was. In a week where Eom Ji-Sung seems to have taken up all the time of the recruiting team, did this one slip away ? Any Swans fan who has engaged head coach, Luke Williams since his arrival in January will tell you how confident and reassuring he was when talking about Langstaff. He ‘gave the impression’ he wanted the player and things were okay. He did that when talking of Carl Rushworth for those who remember late last season. Now, things do change, and you have to hope Swansea City have a far better set of propositions ahead of them, but currently with a lot of salary saved, and money in the bank it isn’t happening. The summer transfer window is three weeks old, and of course the new season begins in five weeks. In between that the squad, as it is, will travel to Austria, involve themselves in a training camp and play two friendly games, one against Köln. We understand there is still a willingness by the club to bring in the key players Williams wants, and before the squad departs in around ten days time, That now seems a big ask, the lengths the Swans go to when completing their diligence on players they pay for is distressingly drawn out at times. Distressing that is for the fans. The Swans have a list of transfers that fail to either materialise or complete, they aren’t that different to most clubs, but it’s happened already on a few occasions this summer window. How you gauge ‘big news’ is the key here. When we got ahold of the Ronald transfer it wasn’t met with the positivity we expected, so what is the expectation ? The issues are clear, and the Swans will most certainly sign a goalscorer, whether he becomes one for Swansea or not is another thing. Jerry Yates leaving is a sure indication there will be a signing. However, this guy isn’t the answer. Click —> ⚽️ Adama news And not this guy either. Click —> ⚽️ Loan link Myles Peart-Harris ©️Reuters The name on everyone’s lips will be Oli McBurnie (below), but we have it on very good authority he is waiting for a possible improved deal from Sheffield United. The Blades are in limbo though, a sale of the club is still imminent. McBurnie is out of contract though. Oli is twenty eight, and a proven danger man in the Championship. Langstaff isn’t. Of course the Swans would have discussed him, but what’s the likelihood of a deal bringing him back on top wages ? We will let you discuss that, none of us are the wiser here. The links so far have been far and wide. None of them tantalising, the expectation on Eom Ji-Sung will be big, but when people talk about untested players, he is most certainly top of any list. We know he has signed, and barring a Gautier Ott situation (it can’t happen) he will be officially here this week. I would imagine Gwangju FC have driven Swansea mad over this deal. At this moment in time we all know the club are chasing targets, and one may well be newsworthy come Tuesday afternoon ? But really putting names to the ‘big news’ or even a real rumour seems unlikely until then. Nobody should ever be compromised on these things, a lot is at stake, the biggest problems at this moment in time falls on the heads of the Swans hierarchy. They simply cannot make this another window of chance signings, we’ve said it before, if it becomes just that and a litter of loans, certain heads will most certainly roll. And some people may well get their way after months of protesting. That’s a fact we can assure you of.
