Ritsu Doan The Latest Name To Be Linked With Southampton
Saturday, 13th Nov 2021 09:28

With the opening of the January Transfer window only weeks away, the rumours will start to pick up with players being linked with moves as their agents try to ramp up interest in their clients, here is one linked with being the new Dusan tadic

Saints could head back to the Eridivisie as they did back in 2014 when they signed Dusan Tadic, sometimes Tadic had his critics, but with 24 goals & 35 assists in 162 appearances his record statistically stands up to scrutiny and he had a knack for not only the odd special goal, but vital ones as well.

Some Saints fans feel that the flair of Tadic is missed when the team goes forward, that we have no one in the side who can change a game with that bit of individual skill that suddenly turns a game with a goal out of nowhere or that defence splitting pass.

Italian media outlet Calciomercato are reporting that Saints are interested in signing 23-year-old PSV Eindhoven winger Ritsu Doan, who has 19 goals and eight assists under his belt in the Eredivisie in 86 appearances with FC Groningen and PSV.

Doan is said to be a player in the same vein as Tadic in that he can play in a number of roles including as an out and out winger or as a play maker.

The 23 year old Japanese International signed for PSV Eindhoven from Groningen in the summer of 2019 for £19 million. but struggled and was loaned out last season.

This season he has re established himself in the PSV squad but is not a regular starter and could be looking for a move away, his value has dropped a little and Saints could get him for around £5-6 million.

Saints are stacked up with wide players at the moment so his position is not a priority, but could they see the chance to pick up a bargain in January.

Tadic could’ve or was very near world class it pains me too say but he should’ve been at a very big club

Tadic was an incomparable player, who never really had the chance whilst at the club to play either as a No.10 or an outright CF. I reckon that, had he done so, he’d be seen now as a true Saints legend

Can't see it happening, I think more chance that we will go for another Simeu, Livra or Small

We know that there are a lot of "diamonds" hidden away in the Dutch league in particular, but Saints " being interested in him " just because one of our scouts may have watched him doesn't necessarily mean anything .
Saints have said they watch players dozens of time before signing anyone, and I'm sure that any good player gets a lot of attention from other Prem. clubs.

Even if we buy such a player, the real questions are.. HOW will he adapt to Ralphs 4-2-2-2 formation ?.... and WHO will be sacrificed in order to put him in a regular start line-up?
