“Toddy”, by Colin Todd & Jim Brown -

Breedon Books £16.99; 192pp

Legendary Rams’ defender Colin Todd has just released his autobiography, “Toddy” a fascinating retrospective on his long and illustrious football career - and he’s in Derby city centre and at Pride Park Stadium for signings tomorrow, Friday 30th May!

Colin and co-author Jim Brown will be at Waterstones bookstore in Derby between 12:00 midday and 1:30 pm and then at Shopdcfc at Pride Park Stadium from 3:00 pm until 4.30 pm.

Brian Clough snatched Colin Todd from Sunderland to replace Dave Mackay at the heart of Derby’s defence. After declaring that he could not afford Todd in February 1971, Clough typically announced Colin’s signing for Derby County the very next day, for a then record British fee for a defender!

Todd went on to win two League Championship medals at Derby County and gained 27 full England caps; he also won the coveted PFA Player of the Year Award in 1974.

Todd made watching defenders exciting - he was very quick, a brilliant reader of situations, crisp in the tackle and superbly balanced; fans purred in satisfaction as he patrolled the Baseball Ground with massive authority and consistency.

His partnership with Roy McFarland at Derby County was a classic combination - one probably never to be bettered, with both players residing at the top of Derby County’s ‘all-time greats’ list.

You can meet Colin and buy your signed copy on Friday - and also do look out for a full book review and competition to win a copy coming soon at RamZone!
