Hossam has had his problems since coming to England. He infamously pulled off his shirt and threw it to the ground after being substituted in the Spurs vs Blackburn game in May 2007 and was disciplined by the club. He issued an apology but maintained that he was just angry at his own performance and didn't mean any disrespect.

He was set to move to Birmingham City in June 2007 but Birmingham's then manager, Steve Bruce sent him back to Spurs and announced that he wouldn't be completing the deal due to Ghaly apparently criticising the club's training methods and badmouthing the players. Since that time he's remained on the periphery at White Hart Lane.

A year on, he's maybe learned his lessons and was so keen to take up the opportunity to play regular football for the Rams that he passed up the opportunity to play for his country in the African Cup of Nations in January 2008 so that he could complete the deal to come to Pride Park.

His loan move to the Rams gives him another chance to redeeem himself and so far he's concentrated on showcasing his undoubted skills and has turned in some excellent performances in what is a difficult time for the Rams on the field and has become something of a fans' favourite. In fact, his performances have prompted many fans to urge the club to try to make the signing permanent, although whether he would want to play his football in the Championship is subject to debate.

Rating: 7/10
