A hard working midfielder with a good touch and passing ability, David joined the Rams initially on loan until the end of 2006 with the move becoming permanent on January 1st, 2007 with the Rams to pay a fee in excess of £1m.

David captained the Reds' reserve team during 2004/5, but not unnaturally, found it difficult to establish himself in the first team. He is rated very highly by Davies and has been described by him as "an old-fashioned midfielder who will win international honours".

In fact, he caught Billy Davies' eye while loaned out to Preston North End during 2005/6 before moving to Holland for a loan spell with NEC Nijmegen.

David's signing was described by both Billy Davies and club Chairman, Peter Gadsby as an indication of the club's intentions since ridding itself of the crippling debt run up by the previous owners.
