Monk Praises The Referee Over Red Card Saturday, 15th Aug 2015 19:11 by Planet Swans (follow us on Twitter @swansnews) Not surprisingly Garry Monk has praised the referee over the sending off of Daryl Janmaat for Newcastle after two fouls on Swansea dangerman Jefferson Montero. Janmaat was dismissed in the first half for the two yellow cards and effectively his team mates were never back in the game from that moment as the Swans eased to a 2-0 win over their opponents and lifted themselves for now into the Top 4 places in the Premier League. It was a correct decision from the referee but one that many would not have made given the fact the second booking was for a tug at a shirt. It is a sad reflection on refereeing that I say that it wouldn't always be given but that is the truth and full marks to the referee for making the call. Monk was echoing that praise when he spoke after the game about the tactic of Newcastle to get into Montero and he was pleased that the referee had given him the protection that he deserved. “You could see his (Janmaat) tactic was basically to try and kick him, but credit to the referee, he spotted that early and made the right decisions and quite rightly the player was sent off,” said Monk. “He’d had a couple of lunges earlier that might have been yellows and in the end it was right he was sent off. You can’t do that at this level “I thought Jeff was a little bit quieter than he was at Chelsea, but when he contributed he really did it well. “I spoke about Jeff being protected and he was because that will be a tactic going forward. “He was exceptional today, he is always a threat, but we have threats everywhere. We are attacking very well. We showed some maturity as well, when they went to 10 men they were very deep, but we handled that well.
