LFW Pub Guide - The Coningham
LFW Pub Guide - The Coningham

A traditional old Irish pub that’s starting to look its age but a favourite haunt of QPR fans for many years.

Name of pub: Conningham Arms

Location: Uxbridge Road

Size: Not the biggest but with the street outside it can hold a few hundred fans.

Selection of beers? Not the best, they do have a pump for Magners but it's not connected to anything, the usual array of John Smiths, Guinness, Fosters and Carling.

Price of drinks? Different every time you go to the bar, ranges from £2.90 a pint to £3.40.

How full does it get on a matchday? Very busy before the game after 1pm and straight afterwards but is usually empty just after six so easy to get a beer if you stay to watch the late game on TV.

How fit are the bar staff? Stunning - if you are a hobbit or into the fuller figure.

How long does it take to walk to the ground from there? Around a ten minute walk to the Loft entrance, quicker for South Africa Road.

Sky Sports/ESPN? They have both and usually show all the live games although opted for live tennis on the final day of the season which seemed odd.

Suitable for away fans? Away fans usually come in without trouble for the lower profile games but they can probably find better places to go.

Suitable for families and kids? If you get there early you'll get a table and you do get a few kids in before the game but again I can imagine better pubs to take kids in before the game.

What's the smoking situation? You can smoke on the street outside.

Beer garden? No beer garden but plenty of space on the street to have a beer.

As far as pub toilets go, just how bad are these? I can't imagine many worse, tuck your trousers in your socks before you walk in. Three urinals for blokes, usually at least one blocked. Last season a carrier bag was placed over one with an out of order sign and the bag was full of piss within ten minutes.

Does it serve food and is it any good? No food other than bar snacks, most people go and get a KFC, kebab or burger from the takeaways and eat in the pub.

Trendy modern bar, traditional pub or somewhere in between? Traditional old Irish pub that’s falling apart.

In one sentence why should people visit/steer clear of this pub? Worth a visit for a good atmosphere, chance to watch the lunchtime game and not far from the ground plus right next to the bus stop for getting home. Downside is it's expensive, it's falling apart and when it gets busy you have a very long wait at the bar plus the police tend to insist on everyone drinking out of plastic glasses which makes no sense at all when they hand you a plastic cup with a bottle of magners.
