Time For A Hero To Emerge Thursday, 26th Apr 2012 11:06
In any succesful season, usually a hero emerges just at the right time to sbnatch victory from the jaws of disaster, so far this season its been pretty much a team effort, but who will be the last day hero ?
Perhaps the nearest we have to a late saviour emerging is Billy Sharp, after initially falling down in the pecking order, in the past month or so he has come back with a vengeance, scoring some vital goals to keep us in the top two, now we await whether it will be Billy himself who will be the last day hero or whether another will step from the ranks.
Of course there are some who have been hero's all season turning it on regularly, but now its time for someone to step up to the plate and prove the old adage "Cometh the man cometh the hour", so will it be the likes of Lambert, Sharp or even Lallana, the obvious candidates who put in a 10 out of 10 match winning performance to guide us home, or will it come from one of the unsung hero's of the side, could it be Danny Fox who for all his assists this season still has his doubters who cant seem to get over Dan Harding being dropped, will it be Jack Cork who sometimes shows the undoubted talent he has but not consistently enough, could it be Morgan Schneiderlin who doesnt score many but when he does they are usually classics, or could it be a very unlikely source, Danny Butterfield, Fraser Richardson or even a substitute like Arron Martin.
I do pray to god though it isnt Kelvin Davis, not through any disparaing thoughts as to his ability, purely from I couldnt bear to think of the shreds that my nerves will be in if we are on the back foot so much that its Kelvin who has to put in the heroics.
Whoever it is will be guaranteed a place in the history books, Tony Funnell didnt play many games for Saints, 11 starts plus 4 as sub in our promotion season but the 8 goals he scored were vital, when the final tally was made his goals were worth six points (in the days of two points for a win) to the club and the difference between going up and staying down, Saints fans of a certain age remember Funnell with affection, strangely he would only play a further two games for the club the following season before departing.

Unfortunately Dan Fox has cancelled out all his assists and more with abysmal defending which has cost us goals. So yep Dan Fox for me Saturdays hero. He certainly owes us!

Dan Fox. His first priorty is to defend and he cant. Agreed he owes us. Another would be Fonte....poor defensive displays.....payback with a goal please. Hammond also....Cork.....hang on the list is endless

Corky from the half way line, screamer into the top right corner in front of the Northam. Come on Corky just for once have a go at goal.

Yeah Corky or Fonte as unlikely heroes, but two players I'd love to see on the scoresheet. Has Lambo got his league 30 yet..? Just asking. Anyway, that's not me getting cocky, that's what I dream of. In reality I'd take 1-0, although not sure my nerves could take it.

Lambert needs a hat trick for 30. Would not bet against it if the game goes to plan.

New to this site and it's the last game of the season...i'm just gearing up for the Premiership 2012/13 season when i will be in full voice. Lambert will get to his tally of 30 on Saturday...therefore Hat-trick HERO....looking at the odds out there....Coventry to be winning at HT...SAINTS to win FT...20-1......worth a flutter however I would prefer us 3 -0 up at H/T as coasting it.....Disappointed with you bstokesaint for not knowing how many Lambert was on :-D

Also liking the Wet Spam lot piling the pressure on us...good mind games...however..deep down I think they really know that they will be preparing for the play-offs and getting want they want with Big Sam getting the boot cause they hadnt made it to Wembley. They will be back in spirits again come August when they are Favourites for the Championship second time round tho.....

I had an inkling Lambo was on 27, but just wanted to confirm it. Personally I haven't bothered reading any reports about West Ham, any comments, nothing. At the end of the day they really don't matter. There is only one team that stands in the way of us and the EPL. Mind games just get on my nerves.

A bit of folly, surely. All the starting 11 need to do is play to the best of their ability motivated by a good manager, which I believe Nigel Adkins is.

I'd like to see Guly score the winner and see how well his detractors can handle that as a response to their jeers

We've already got a hero - so the script writer's job should be easy! He stands at over 6ft 3...........

Good call by ExiledSupporter for Guly to score. Like many I've been appalled at his treatment at home games so was delighted to join the positive chanting for him at Peterborough.

It doesnt matter who is the hero. We'll take anybody! Lets finish as we started! Lambo, Lallana..or Guly (who had one of his best games away at Coventry). For me it would be AL - could easily have moved to premiership but has stayed through think and thin. Those players are special. Otherwise it will be Jose who hasnt scored all year I can feel the noise in the stadium already - cant wait

Blogs 31 bloggersKnees-up Mother Brown #19 by wessex_exile February, and the U’s enter the most pivotal month of the season. Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process. What’s the excuse going to be today Steve – shocking pitch, faking head injuries, Mexican banditry or some other bit of sour-grapery bullsh*t? Derby County Polls |
