I got a Ps5 for Christmas so thought about getting the new EA FC as hadn't bought a new one since FIFA 20. Until PSN told me I played more than 1,000 hours of FIFA20. Playing actual games now
Time practising is important cos it allows you to experiment with stance, grip etc. I got dramatically better during lockdown cos i could play uninterrupted on my own for an hour each break experimenting with stance, grip, throw etc and double down on what worked.
But here are the general pointers I give to people.
1. Dominant eye
This often makes the biggest, quickest improvement. Your vision is not correct. Your brain is taking the imagery from two data points and merging them. But it takes one eye as the dominant one to give you one vision. So you think you're aiming from the centre of your face but you're actually seeing it from the centre of your dominant eye.
Find out which it is - hold your finger in front of you, then look at with one eye closed at a time. The one where it's in the same place as with both eyes open is your dominant one - then when you stand at the oche line the centre of the board with the centre of that eye, and pull your arm over it to aim from the centre of that eye.
2. Stance
I stand front on, but this more about comfort - I physically can't stand full side on. Going halfway with your foot slanted is a nice way for beginners to align their body as you can use your heel to line up with the centre of the board
3. Throw
Main tip here is you want to minimise variance in movement and only really move your elbow. Bring your arm back, set, then throw. Helps allay going left or right. I also say try to go "to" the board. I imagine extending fully and having my finger point at where i want the dart to go. Take your time between throws and get a process and rhythm and stock to it. I find the slower I throw, the more accurate I am.
4. point the dart up
Darts don't travel in a straight line, they arc. Face the tip pointing upwards to let it do that, then move it flatter depending on how fast you throw
5. Practise with purpose
The amount of time in warm ups there'll be a go smoking T20 and you think "oft, don't want to play him" and then in a match they couldn't finish their dinner is alarmingly common. Trebles for show, doubles for dough. Don't throw aimlessly at the board. Pick a number and try to check it out. Do Round the World but just at doubles. A good MvG tip I picked up was if you do something amazing in practise, leave it there. Gives you the feeling "I can do it". If I hit a 100+ in warm up, I won't throw again till the games.
I'm still not great, I average like 40/50, but I was maybe 20 when I started
The thing I really hate is when team's go up, look sunk, sack the manager that got them there, then come down with some no mark and wish they had say, oh I dunno, the guy that got them up?
Going up, sacking Marti in January then going down with like Gregory Vignal as coach would be diabolical
I should love the Trades due to my proximity to it but I've had a few interactions with them about hire where they were really rude and it's soured me on it
I'm usually against speculating on stuff like this cos none of us actually know what behind the scenes at a football club is like, but the fact that he gets no game time whilst Marti fast tracked a child into the first team makes me think there's more to this
The kiss was also supposed to be Spock but Shatner politiked it to being him - which was why in the 2009 reboot they had Spock and Uhura as romantic partners. It was however, not actually the first interracial televised kiss.
Which leads me to my next "not a lot of people know"
Martin Luther King convinced Nichelle Nichols to stay on Star Trek.
She had decided to quit the show and take a role on Broadway. Roddenberry told her to take the weekend to think it over. That night she met MLK who told her his family were huge fans and loved the show. She told him she was going to quit.
'You cannot, you cannot... For the first time on television, we will be seen as we should be seen every day—as intelligent, quality, beautiful people who can sing, dance, and go to space… who are professors, lawyers… If you leave, that door can be closed, because your role is not a black role, and is not a female role; he can fill it with anybody, even an alien."
She went back on Monday and told Gene she was staying
I'm a big post rock fan so I listen to a lot of lyric less music
The kings. Saw them at their 20th anniversary show at the Barrowlands in Glasgow and during the flute part my mate turned to me and said "I am genuinely scared about how loud this is gonna be"
I loved the new Godspeed record and this is monstrous
I saw Explosions at Revolution Hall in Portland last year and when they closed with this (and I'll admit, under the influence of some of the good state of Oregon's finest gummies) my jaw was on the floor for about an hour afterwards
That is a hell of a reach. And what interest exactly is being protected? The Tigers game was announced months ago.
Not many medium sized cities would allow two sporting events to happen on the same day at all, especially not at two ground 10 minutes walk apart so you're lucky your train ticket was any use
Went to see Nosferatu. I'm an Eggers stan but I loved it. Every shot dripped with menacing horny evil, I left the cinema feeling gross. Sound design and cinematography unreal, incredible physical acting by the central female lead
