| News Comment | Southampton Appoint Ivan Juric at 11:32:20
Welcome indeed Ivan, I suspect that several players who RM wouldn't even allow on the pitch will be raring to go and have a point to prove. What a shame that Charly Alcaraz was sold in August I think he would have flourished under the new manager's style of play. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Fulham The Preview at 12:41:10
Templarinexile, rightly or wrongly I'm not convinced that the majority of the players are necessarily ill equipped for the PL. I would say that the players were certainly ill equipped to play the game RM envisaged in his dreams, or fantasies. Let's give the new manager, presuming Juric is now at the club, the opportunity to use the players strengths and see if they can compete with other teams on a level playing field? |
| News Comment | Who Had Heard Of Pochettino ! As Saints Fans Question New Manager's Credentials at 18:45:35
Absolutely right lansdownsaint, the negativity of some supporters beggars belief. Considering some of the other names touted around for the job I'm delighted that Ivan Duric is willing to take on the challenge. Unlike recent appointments we won't be paying stupid amounts of compensation to another club or pandering to the inflated egos of those unemployed who believe that they are too good to even consider the job. There's no way of knowing whether he can get us out of the relegation places but equally there's no reason to think he can't improve the win ratio either. |
| News Comment | Southampton Linked With Ex Danish National Team Manager at 23:23:15
Considering that so many of the potential candidates are unproven, unavailable or destined for better opportunities Kasper Hjulmand could be the right fit for the role. As the club already has Adam Lallana in house they wouldn't need to look any farther for "someone with the necessary Premier League nous" to advise a new manager. Having worked for many years with Jurgen Klopp, like him or not, Lallana's tactical awareness is probably top level. |
| News Comment | Graham Potter Lined Up For Southampton Job at 12:32:41
These rumours are usually ridiculously simplistic aren't they? So Graham Potter has seemingly agreed that if we lose at Bournemouth then he should be at Staplewood for a 0900 start on Tuesday but if we win then he can have a lie in for a few days until we lose at Arsenal? The results and performance are hardly going to influence whether or not GP has agreed a contract to manage the team. |
| News Comment | This Weekend's Fixtures, Can Southampton Get Out Of The Premier League Drop Zone at 13:13:35
Bowlercow, as far as I can see Captain Jack will be available for the trip to Arsenal on 5th October. I've got a feeling of dread already, don't do it RM even if THB and Bednarek get red cards at Bournemouth. As for getting out of the bottom three, surely one of the forwards is going to find form sooner than later? That said, I'm glad we didn't sign Delap to add to our woes. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Manchester United The Verdict at 17:51:21
Late in the day to add very much to the previous posts but in the absence of clear candidate for the captaincy amongst the out field players I'd hand the armband to Ramsdale. Not only is he a respected, senior professional but he is also capable of organising the defence, something that Stephens is unable to do every single game. |
| News Comment | Russell Martin Has Plenty Of Options For Manchester United Game But Will He Use Them at 11:35:19
There are a minimum of three players who should have no place in the starting line up this weekend simply because we have signed better players. In my view Stephens, Smallbone and Armstrong don't have the ability needed at the top level. There are no excuses for RM following the early season break it's time for tough decisions. Arguably, any of the players you have mentioned Nick should be on the team sheet, depending on training performance and tactical needs. Loyalty to players is one thing but hoping that some can improve and consistently perform to the desired level, despite numerous opportunities, is delusional. |
| News Comment | Saints Linked With Move For Ex Player From West Ham at 10:48:26
I guess this depends on which players are lined up to leave the club in the coming days, on current form I wouldn't be disappointed if Edozie, Smallbone and Aribo, amongst others, were loaned or sold. The bigger issue for me is whether we actually saw the best of JWP a couple of years or so ago, with Dibling, Lallana and the recently signed midfielders all likely to be starters I'd prefer to see Fraser back on loan I think. |
| News Comment | Southampton Still Have Two Irons In The Fire For A Goalkeeper at 15:04:35
If Bijlow is the all round keeper that his record suggests then he should be snapped up asap. However, I wouldn't necessarily agree that 8m a year for Ramsdale is crazy money. If Ramsdale comes on loan and keeps us clear of relegation then it doesn't seem too much to pay. |
| News Comment | Southampton Put In BId For Feyenoord Keeper at 18:58:40
Great news, after all of the speculation about Ramsdale etc the owners seem to have discovered a potential gem under the radar. I'm as guilty as most supporters when signings don't materialise on demand, we all know AM's limitations, but we never know what hard work is being done behind the scenes to recruit players. I think we can all be very hopeful that a new keeper is on the way in the near future. Phew. |
| News Comment | Vacancy- Ball Playing Goalkeeper Wanted Apply St Mary's Stadium at 11:32:09
Media outlets elsewhere suggesting that Wolves have offered Arsenal a loan, with option to buy, offer for Ramsdale could be an issue. However, my opinion of Ramsdale is that whilst he is a better keeper than McCarthy he is little or no better with the ball at his feet. I'm hoping that there is a deal in place to sign Sam Johnstone on the basis of his all round game. The essential factor is that AM doesn't have the ability to play in goal, at this level, as a first choice selection. |
| News Comment | Kyle Walker-Peters Situation Is Win Win Says Russell Martin at 11:12:50
I'd say most supporters would prefer KWP to stay and only he knows why he wants to move to another club. In my view he could adapt to a midfield role and negate the need to overspend on O'Riley who is unproven outside of a decidedly less competitive league. Regardless of the outcome with KWP I can't shake off my anxieties about the seeming inevitability of having McCarthy or Lumley in goal for the initial games. Whilst being fairly optimistic that the club is trying to recruit a truly competent goalkeeper failure to do so is not a viable option. |
| News Comment | German Club Agree Deal For Southampton Defender at 17:50:29
Hopefully all supporters will wish him well, it's a shame that things didn't work out for him at St Marys. Fingers crossed that he passes his medical with ease and can start afresh in Germany. |
| News Comment | Southampton Hold Talks with Goalkeeper at 16:20:09
I'm very much with Bowlercow on this, Sam Johnson is available for transfer and I'm struggling to understand why he wouldn't be a top priority signing. If the club preference is to sign a keeper on loan awaiting Bazunu's return to fitness then in my view the strategy is wrong. |
