belated congratulations from a Leeds fan.
at 17:08 5 May 2014

Just a quick and rather late message to say congratulations on promotion.. Apologies if there is a thread further down the forum page.. couldn't immediately see it.. anyways after our (Leeds) exit at the hands of you guys we could see first hand you have a great set up and spirit on and off the pitch.. obviously not one of our better days but a good day out and good banter... given our fall from grace as such. I think a lot of us have learnt to enjoy the day regardless and having a bit of humility is not a bad trait so again glad you got up and hope the club and town do well out of it.

As for us we thought hard to drag ourselves into a relegation battle in the hope of another trip to Rochdale next season but alas contrived to finally get new owners and potential stability. So will wait and see if he his the real deal or yet another false dawn.. certainly as charisma and likes to party. Just as long as his wallet is ready to build a squad.

Cheers again good luck in league 1. I guess aim number stay up and then look forward.

McDermott sacked by Leeds...
at 09:14 1 Feb 2014

Cheers.. appreciate the respect in your comment..

I actually cannot believe this situation, and in truth it's a complete embarrassment and I think this will push many die hards over the edge. Not sure what can do other than see what this next ser of decidedly dubious looking owners will do.

The talk about of bringing in the owners friend Gianluca Festa is not a good start. No real cv as a manager and more an appointment to satisfy the new owner rather than the club's actual need.

Play offs have gone. Morale is lowest of the low.. The last thing we need is to plummet into relegation zone as personally we probably don't have right squad to win games at the moment. Average home attendance 25k and best away support in the league and we get this!!

The Gates will drop by 3>5k pretty much straight away.

As with all fans I am hope I am wrong.. and one thing that I think is shocking is the treatment of Brian Mcdermott. Ok we have had a bad run and even if the solution in the was not to be Brian Mc. He has been genuine and decent and absolute minimum he deserves is to leave with dignity and not the crass ways of yesterday.

Anyway not a clue what the game itself today will bring but need points I only hope the venomous atmosphere does not spill over into negative scenes. As their are many put there ready to bang into our coffin given Leeds past.

In fairness you guys showed class in your win and it's still appreciated. Best wishes today a tough one but very winnable being at home. And given the cup exit. All energy now channeled in promotion. !

Good Luck in 4th Round of F a Cup. {From Leeds}
at 00:07 16 Jan 2014

Ha my comment was mainly based on population, but can see your point..

I am not niave and know that Leeds more than most have a reputation worst than most, which is based predominantly on a 20+ year old hooligan problem.. last season there were problems at the Leeds v Sheff Weds game (at Hillsborough) mainly started by extremely offensive chants..

But having been on this site before and now after our cup game, I can see a fair few references to poor behaviour from Sheff Weds on previous visits, which does sort of override a lot of Weds fans claiming the houlier than thou moral high ground, they reel out to us Leeds fans when problems arise.

Good Luck in 4th Round of F a Cup. {From Leeds}
at 23:13 15 Jan 2014

Having played (and been well beaten) by both you guys and Sheff Weds in our last 2 games, can honestly say I would love a Rochdale win, and given the game is at Spotland, nothing to fear in my opinion.

We were diabolical against Sheff W and 6 : 0 shows that, had we had 11 men would probably have been a goal or two less thats all ha.. but.a performance from you guys similar to that you put up against us, and definate genuine chance..

Regardless hope you bank some more cash to add to that from our visit, and despite our 2 nil defeat and poor performance...a good number of Leeds fans, me included enjoyed our day at Spotland, a proper club and good craic.

As for Sheff W, would gladly see them knocked out.. being from Yorkshires 2nd city, I understand the inferiority issues they have against Leeds, but thier fans lack class in a big way, and the double standards they exhibit is laughable.

So again good luck in the cup and.play off/promotion hunt.

Macc v Sheff Weds
at 07:23 6 Jan 2014

I think the pricing is good and if that got 25,000 the overall revenue split between the clubs would probably outweigh circa 10,000 at usual prices.. só Macc may end up with more much needed cash..

BUT.. to implement this without prior agreement / discussion with Macc is out of order.. and disrespectful in the extreme.. (wonder how Sheff W wouldreact if say likes of Man U had done same to them..!?).

Right idea on pricing but crass way of going about it.

Well we will never be everyones cup of tea.. but hopefully showed that despite stories to the contrary Leeds supporters are mainly well behaved these days and to be honest any thing other than congratulations would be sour grapes on our part..

Heard that a few fans of ours were dotted around in home ends , but again didnt see anything untoward só if anything just more coinage in the coffers for you guys..

Sure today will be one of those where you buy every sunday paper instead of 1 or 2.. ha..

only postive to come out of it for us is the obvious need to.improve our squad asap.

What a performance!!
at 19:43 4 Jan 2014

As you would expect writing this is not what i was expecting when i woke up this morning.. but crédit where it is due..Well done on a top drawer performance .. no complaints on the result.. just our (Leeds) performance.. some very angry fans on our coach tonight .. but would imagine anything near that standard and you must be looking at a decent 2014.

naturally gutted.. but its the Fa Cup and every year there are shocks.. this year its us!

good luck with a money spinning draw in next round ..

I would think most of of us Leeds fans would see 3400 out of circa 10,000 is a v good allocation.. hope it gets as close to capacity as possible.. if you win your games inbetween now and then.. must surely boost the numbers..

as for fans in home ends.. this usually is minimal and if anything no one knows they are there, or at least the fans are just there to see game and keep heads down which in my opinion is no crime..

the same rumour about fans in home ends.. is doing the rounds for our TV game in Blackpool today.. Again this usually comes from North West based supporters buying tickets locally..

Given we sold out a few a days ago, I guess there will be still some wanting to get in by hook or by crook.. I saw the message regarding not selling tickets in home end to fans they suspect of being Leeds fans.. (would imagine fans with West Yorks postcodes etc..) we do have a good few number of supporters across the North West, so even if they have tickets they will possible buy on behalf of those who haven't..

I think if its just a few dotted around the ground with the only intention of seeing the game, should be ok.. (and like anywhere.. if you go in lording it.. you should expect to be ejected...)

We do however often get these rumours for almost every away game we sell out.. and very very rarely do you hear of there being any issue.. which will either be down to the rumours being incorrect.. or the fans just keeping heads down and enjoying (depending on the result) the game..

The same rumour is in circulation for our game at Blackpool tomorrow, (I am not at the game).. we sold 1600 allocation, but seemingly some of ours have tickets in home end also.. the Blackpool game, also Forest away + Blackburn home before the 3rd, may also take up a lot of peoples funds.. so again may put off trying to get in home end..

anyway.. Happy Christmas :-)

Sick to death of negative Rochdale spin
at 13:20 22 Dec 2013

Yes Fforde Green was Harehills mate, I actually never went into it.. and yes towards the end it definitely had a reputation as being a place only to go if you are known..

As I mention in previous post, Harehills and Chapeltown are neighbouring suburbs.. 70s through to 90s Chapeltown was constantly in news for shootings, prostitution and gangs.. (the Yorkshire Ripper also added to its notoriety), a lot of this was centred around a large pub called The Hayfield which again was feared by people in Leeds never mind outside.. generally frequented by the Afro Carribean community.. late 90's the Hayfield was closed down by compulsory purchase.. this actually seemed to work and whilst there is still occasional shooting/stabbings.. its no where near as bad.. and if anything the trouble (drugs trade).. moved more into Harehills, and was centred on the Fforde Green.. and from early 2000's Harehills went down hill rapidly.. eventually (around 7 years ago if memory correct) Fforde Green closed down following a raid where drugs and weapons seized..

But before that Fforde Green had a decent reputation, yes it was in the middle of a large number of pretty tough area's but by all accounts, good music and craic (as opposed to crack!).. Also they had a damn good pub football side from there..

both above pubs closed before the smoking ban / recession which as now closed probably 80% of estate pubs across the country.. I haven't been passed recently but it was a continental supermarket the last time I saw.

apologies for epic reply.. I struggle to summarise concisely!

cheers R17 ALE..

yes Roundhay Road is as you say crossing the invisible line.. Harehills is probably the most troubled area of the city.. if there is a violent crime in the city, it is often Harehills.. which adjoins Chapeltown.. so 2 pretty notorious areas side by side.. and the number of murders in those areas is frightening..

but travel up a mile or so, you head into good parts of Oakwood, Roundhay through to Moortown / Alwoodley.

Anyways I will be making my first trip to Rochdale / Spotlands in just under a fortnight.. just pretty annoyed at our performance yesterday, 0-0 at home to Barnsley.. missed opportunity, but somehow 5th.. which I honestly say is more a testament to the standard of the league being average this year.. we face Blackpool, Forest, Blackburn before you.. and in reality I expect to drop places.. hope I am wrong.. but yesterday hoping my eyes a bit to realilty a bit.. 31,000 and cracking atmosphere spoiled by the game.. :-)

best of luck on your festive games until the obvious, cheers

Appreciate this is not a footie conversation, but seeing as I joined (just with our cup game in mind), will add my comments as a neutral outsider.. I will firstly advise I have never been to Rochdale itself (think nearest I have been is Milnrow and Oldham)..

But in terms of how Rochdale comes across in the national media, I think you have some valid points (I say this as being a Leeds person I have similar concerns to how Leeds is perceived, and I guess sometime get caught in between civic pride and paranoia that we also get a hard press).

Just through TV usually BBC / ITV / SKY, I am aware of the coverage on the grooming (I get confused as to whether that is 2 separate cases or 1 case that as become fragmented),

Their are 2 other widely known grooming issues (that I am aware of), one in Oxford area, another in South Yorkshire (Rotherham area).. But as stated elsewhere on thread, when the grooming issue is raised, it does appear to be the Rochdale one that is singled out to lead the coverage..

The additional issue of Cyril Smith, obviously doesn't help, but why brand a whole town because of the actions of individuals!? (we have a similar situation owing to Jimmy Savile.. Leeds becomes attached to the stories, and certainly its used at football matches as a `banter` tool, by opposition fans..

Then there is the general unemployment which effects the whole of the country.. but I have seen a fair few pieces which are featured on the Falinge estate (if that's the correct name), the general purpose of these for these stories is `mill towns` struggling to recover since the 70's/80's when the clothing industry started to suffer.. but again, Rochdale is not the only mill town/city to suffer because of this.. area's such as Oldham / Bradford have same industry background, but both suffered serious riots (which could be attributed to race) so maybe the TV companies are encouraged or choose not to use these places as they may worry about igniting sensitivity in those area's or leaving themselves looking somehow prejudiced..

Then the Mary Portas, rebuilding the UK high street scheme, was focussed on Rochdale (one of 10 towns selected at the time..) it showed countless shops boarded up etc.. which is pretty much a scene repeated in every town and city in the country (Leeds main shopping through fare included).. but generally it is accepted the scheme was not a success.. but again it did show Rochdale rather than elsewhere.. (I think in fairness had it been a huge success it could have been positive for the town, but it seems Mary wasn't the saviour she had us believe..)

Anyway if you add all these together, High Streets / Unemployment / Grooming, all focused on 1 town in 1 area of the country, it is easy to see how, current residents / potential residents can become disillusioned.. and you would have thought the media, should see this also, by continually using 1 location for coverage on what are negative news items, it is essentially giving that area a reputation that is difficult / almost impossible to rid itself of..

As said at the top of this, this is just my comments based on items in the media etc.. and I am sure and hope their are many of the positives you locals are proud of.. one thing that wont help, is the BBC now have having large base in Manchester, as it is easy for them to pop out into Manchester City Centre to comment on prosperous boom city stories, then also convenient to nip over to Rochdale if they have a doom and gloom story!

As a Leeds lad, I am more than familiar with negative news, be it Jimmy Savile Scandal, The 7/7 bombers coming from Beeston / Holbeck area's, still being associated with football hooliganism 25 years after the days of rampaging idiots tearing through towns/city everywhere (although incident with Sheff Weds goal keeper doesn't help).
Leeds gets classed as a prosperous city, mainly because of decent shopping, nightlife, white collar work in city centre.. but I can name 20+ different area's of the city which are what could be described as pretty tough / rough!

cheers, (hopefully I don't come across as opinionated, just adding comment on what is seen on the `outside` of your town..

FA CUP TICKET INFORMATION INCLUDING DALE TRUST & EXILED MEMBERS
at 17:59 19 Dec 2013

Yes correct regarding `Gold Membership` to obtain tickets for away games you must be a member, Season Ticket holders automatically receive Gold Membership.. otherwise its £40 (just for the privilege to apply for tickets..) then there is Silver Membership £30 / Bronze Membership £20.
I am gold member and ticket sorted through supporters club I go with.. the tickets for game at yours will sell out by end of tomorrow according to guy who runs our supporters club..

if anything this membership scheme almost encourages supporters to try and get in home ends.. as if you only go to a couple of games the membership is nearly doubling the cost of the match ticket.. but these tend to be fans who just want to see the game rather than mass ilfiltration like the 80's etc..

Looking forward to game, cheers

Well Pleased With Draw..
at 09:38 17 Dec 2013

Hi Chaps..

New to site being a Leeds fan, looking forward to a good `proper` 3rd round cup game.. not read all the thread so excuse any duplication in my comment! I am a little surprised that this game was not selected for live TV game, as would have thought you guys having home advantage would give it a definite potential `upset` and I use that word purely on the basis of the 2 division gap and not any delusion of grandeur on my part..

Not sure what the TV payout for live cup games would be, but to me the TV companies have devalued the 3rd round a little with their selection of games, yes can see Tottenham v Arsenal is the tie of the round and should be on, but the others I disagree with really, we are constantly being told of the 3rd round being the ones every fan looks forward to (sat round the tv / radio etc.. waiting for draw).

So to pretty much ignore this game, which I know I have bias in, but also Macclesfield v Sheff W and Grimsby v Hudds.. is poor form, and I guess TV companies are now going for more high profile games (which probably is part due to advertising they get also). shame really.

Anyway onto the game, we are somehow 6th, but in my honest opinion need 3 quality additions in January to be a genuine play off hope, (possible automatic given the closeness of top half of our league). So I would hope we have enough to get through.. and looking at your results, enough to see it could be a good battle.. top half of your league even more close than ours..

regarding support, hope the club makes as much money as possible.. as stated our away support is up there, but that doesn't make any difference on the pitch at the minute, as we are better at home than away..

see you guys on in a few week. regards.
