I saw Doherty once sing that line and change it to "...of an Englishman in a Chels*a cap!" |
| Forum Reply | Record Collectors of the board!! at 01:14 1 Apr 2024
I’ve been collecting records since I was about 14-15, so nearly 30 years for me now! I used to go to a secondhand place in Eastcote called Sellanby when I first started collecting as I worked down the road on Saturdays, which in turn led me to scouring record fairs uptown. All before the internet took it to the crazy level it is now, although I have found a lot of gaps in my collection on Discogs in the last few years so it’s not all bad! Always had a soft spot for buying original UK pressings of ‘60’s-‘70’s artists, mainly LP’s (Beatles, Stones, Motown, Stax - my parents influence, basically!) as well as what I grew up on in the ‘90’s (rock, grunge, Britpop). I’ve been through periods of buying up 45’s like they were going out of fashion too! When I lived at home I had a fully operational ‘60’s Dansette in my room so I used to stack up the singles and play them constantly. Heaven! In terms of gems I’ve got my mum’s original copy of The Who’s My Generation on Brunswick from ‘65, which is worth a few quid nowadays. Another fave is Bob Marley’s Catch A Fire on Island, with the top-opening Zippo sleeve. Should anyone need it there’s a great place called Covers33 based in Sheffield who cater for all your vinyl extra needs (inner sleeves, repro 45 sleeves, plastic sleeve protectors etc). Always been great to deal with. [Post edited 1 Apr 2:24]

Hi there, long time lurker and only in the last year have I replied to the odd thread. Background I grew up in Hammersmith, parents both from local families (Dad Shepherds Bush, Mum Hammersmith). First went to LR in '84-'85, infrequently went thereafter, first heartbreak was the MCF in '86 (although we all know that never happened), I was mascot in 1990, started going more regularly from then as my mum used to get comps from the club (she worked as a TA at Canberra Primary for 20 years) before I could afford to pay my own way. Such a great time to see some of those players in that era. I've been lucky enough to know some great R's fans in my life (Malcolm Oakley RIP, Simon & Ron from .org I went to school with) but I've always loved reading the threads and Clive's previews/reviews etc. Long may it all continue. You R's!! nb. fave cheese: Montgomery Cheddar |
| Forum Reply | hardest to find QPR shirts at 13:37 9 Jan 2024
I like buying up shirts that escaped me at the time to fill out the collection, albeit in sizes that fit me now as opposed to any old size! I still have all my old ones from back in the day (starting in '82-'83, when I was 3!). As for rare ones there are a couple of orange 3rd shirts (from between '89-'91) that rarely come up for sale, that said I have seen 1-2 out there recently, at a price though! The yellow 3rd shirt from 00-01 wasn't on general on-sale from memory so that one's up there, and as ND says the Blue Star ones from '86-'87 are as well I don't believe they ever went on general sale with the sponsor on (my one from back in the day is sponsor-less, as are most I have seen since). I was watching the match-worn Blue Star one that came & went on eBay recently. Crazy that it went for over £1,900, but looked great though! Re. the recent black/gold away and then the Barcelona away I got the impression at the time that the club seemed to be producing less numbers of shirts to keep costs down and to gauge sales, and only produced more if/when the initial batches sold out. I could well be wrong on that front but makes sense given our financial predicament. |

I was very fortunate to get both ‘Classic FM’ retro shirts from Mrs SBR, who it seems took full advantage of the Blue Friday 30% offer. Lucky ol’ me! Merry Xmas all! 🔵⚪️🔵🔴⚫️🔴 [Post edited 25 Dec 2023 23:24]

1. My Dad politely told Rodney Marsh to “f*ck off” when he caught him chatting up his gf, at her day job as a window dresser, in her shop down Chiswick High Road 2. I was mascot for the Cardiff 3rd Round tie in Jan 1990 3. At one time I worked at the same firm as Gary Waddock’s brother and Macca’s wife |

It is a great shirt, and one worth celebrating. I agree that the club should be doing more of this to make themselves more money, it’s not like we don’t need it! TF should have tried harder to push through an adidas deal when it came up, would have been a licence to print money from a lot of our fanbase (esp. those so in love with the late 70’s-80’s kits) It’s one of those where any fan who wants it either has to buy it on Monday or ultimately see them pop up on eBay for silly money (if at all!) As you say’68 plenty to choose from, but for me it’s Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On”. As relevant now as it was in 1971 when it was released |
