Been very impressed with Rhys Bennett so far. Got a feeling he might be our next cash-cow and joining the rest of the Dale ex-patriots in the premiership within a couple of years.
Thought tonight was the best peformance since Mark Hughes left and Aaron Ramsey was outstanding (despite the dive). 3 points tomorrow and a good peformance will make for an unforgetable weekend.
The club must make quite a good profit from refreshments. I paid £1.50 for a tea bag, hot water and a drop of milk on Tuesday, but that is not my complaint as its the going rate (or even cheaper than many grounds) If people are turning away from the long queues, and who can blame them, it will soon offset what is saved on less staff. It really is a false economy the club are running on this front.
On Tuesday night there was only one of the refreshment bars open in the Pearl Street stand. Now, I'm all for the club saving money on wages on staff but most of them tend to very young and I doubt very much that they get more than minimum wage. This means longer queues for the fans and on Tuesday I just got back to my seat as the teams were coming back out. Maybe a cutback on the amount of uneccesary stewards would be the better option to save money on staff.
Already have the Mark Hodkinson books, a must read for all football fans and not just Dale fans, and a couple of other Pomona titles. Rule of Night has an exellent chapter where a group of Dale fans go to Luton for an awayday and to cause trouble (wont spoil it by saying anything more but well worth reading for anyone from Rochdale)
Some other great writers in there also including Barry 'Kes' Hines and Hunter Davies. Guess I wont be gracing Waterstones with my presence for a few weeks now
And Bury wre the best footballing side to visit Spotland in years. At times you were almost Barcelono-esque and played us off the park with your brand of total football. With Blackwell in charge and that talented group of players you will soon be out of the relegation zone. Play offs easily this year for you and Premier League in 3 years. You are so lucky to able to watch that team each week
Whenever I've been to Accrington I've always been impressed by the Stanley Ultras. Lower crowds than us but always create a good atmosphere. Could do worse than taking a leaf out of their book.
