Why didn't Derby perform though? Was it maybe the ref not protecting them sufficiently from the usual overly physical approach of the Whites? They kicked everything that moved and that caused Derby to want to get rid of the ball asap.That led to Derby turning the ball over all too often and not doing enough with it when they did keep it. Derby committed 6 fouls and picked up 5 yellow cards. Leeds 18 fouls and 4 yellow cards. I think the ref gave Leeds a helping hand. |

The article is correct, factually, however, the view is limited. Two current Academy starlets have been mentioned but we have more than a couple of youth internationals at the Academy. Max Lowe is one I expect to break through sooner rather than later and, IIRC, he has made the bench on a couple of occasions in the past. The Academy isn't going to throw up a Will Hughes or a Tom Huddlestone every year. The Academy costs around £1M a year. That is, or used to be at any rate, covered by sponsors who choose to sponsor the Academy rather than the club and, as such, doesn't take funds away from the senior squad. |
