Not sure that RM will ever change his beliefs in playing high risk tippy tappy across the back.
But I think the introduction of forward thinking players like Sugawara + Lallana + Dibling + Fernández will automatically change our style of play as long as RM doesn't brain wash them into negative thinking.
Also Ramsdale will make a huge difference he's a commanding figure in goal & is experienced enough to play his natural game.

Martins Substitutions
at 09:54 23 Sep 2024

Being a gambling man I would put good money on Tall Paul scoring more goals & providing mores assists than Ross Stewart ever will for our Club if he is ever given the chance to do it.
Also he's fit & strong, why play Ross Stewart when you've got Tall Paul.
Personally I don't think either are good enough for Premier Lge but given a choice I'd play Tall Paul anytime.

Sometimes particularly when your protecting a 1 - 0 lead you need a big target man up front who can hopefully hold the ball up to take the pressure of your defence.

Good point Grumps.
We'll never know how good or how bad Tall Paul could be for us.
But he is a proven goal scorer in other leagues but none of the other strikers we have are proven or able to score in Premier lge., so why not give Tall Paul a try.
His goalscoring record is at least as good as if not better than all of our other strikers.
I think it's personal & RM just doesn't like him but another Manager just might give him a go.
In desperate times you have to take desperate measures & that's where we are at the moment.

!!!!!!!! RM OUT !!!!!!!!
at 13:00 22 Sep 2024

I have never warmed to RM & his ridiculous obsession with playing out from the back but is a New Manager the answer.
If he was sacked & we bring in a new man then history tells us that SR would appoint another unproven manager from a lower lge.
Albeit we had a squad plenty good enough to get us out of the Championship I don't think we have a squad capable of surviving in Premier Lge.
The acquisitions made in the summer only achieved in giving us a bigger squad but not a better team.
The exception being Ramsdale who is a big upgrade on McCarthy & Bazuna, but it'll take more than Ramsdale's heroics to keep us up.

RIP Bob Brunskill
at 12:22 22 Sep 2024

Loved the Pink & regularly queued up at the Newsagents at 6.45 ish to get my copy.
I was shocked one Saturday when as I walked off the pitched mud splattered after playing 90mins Bob Brunskill approached me with a photographer & asked if they could take my photo & also get some background on me, like what clubs I'd played for & what my ambitions were.
Bob explained that they were putting together an article on me as "Player of the Week" for The Pink.
The following Saturday I was first in the queue to get my copy of the Pink to see my Photo & a full page report on me & my playing career.
Bob was brilliant covering local football & raising the profile of players & the grass roots game.
RIP Bob (I still miss the Pink).

Ipswich Game Matchday Thread

The early substitutions killed us, it put us on the defensive & we all know that we concede late in the game when under pressure.
Alright a couple of our players were looking tired & needed replacing but to make so many changes ruined us offensively.
I thought Sugawara + Fernández + Lallana + Dibling stood out today mainly because they are prepared to take a chance & play the ball forward.
I love the way Sugawara is so direct & gets us forward quickly, his long cross field passes to switch play are brilliant.
KWP is going to struggle to get back in.

If we carry on like this a point every 5 games we'll end up with 7or 8 points after 38 games.
"is that enough to stay up" .

Some may be surprised that KWP has been left out, I'm not.
I think he struggles at left back & Charlie Taylor is much more natural there & Charlie is a better defender.
Also Sugawara deserves to keep his place at Right Back, he's been so goo.

Sporting lookalikes.
at 16:44 20 Sep 2024

Watched the England v Aussies
one day Cricket match yesterday & noticed how much Ben Duckett looks like Adam Armstrong.
Also I've always thought that Jamie Vardy is a dead ringer for Albert Steptoe (for those who can remember the Steptoe & Son comedy series).
I know, I need to get out more before you say it.
Anyone think of any more sporting lookalikes.

Cornet
at 13:02 19 Sep 2024

Cornet has scored & probably will score more spectacular goals but he's definitely not prolific.
We'd be better off with a striker that can score 20 scruffy goals rather than one that scores the occasional screamer.

The only noteworthy thing AA did was to get booked
at 17:15 18 Sep 2024

It is blatantly obvious that Adam Armstrong is not good enough to play in Premiership.
He looks totally lost regardless of what position he's playing in.
He is unable to receive & hold a ball up & offers no threat going forward.
He's like Slack Jack Stephens, a good clubman but we cannot afford to carry passengers in this league.

KWP Off
at 12:35 18 Sep 2024

I agree Charlie Taylor is a more natural & effective left full back than KWP.
Being left footed makes it easier for CT & he is also capable of delivering decent set pieces ( ie. The delivery for THB to score from last night).
I know most will disagree with me but I actually think Sugawara is a better right full back than KWP.
KWP is technically gifted but he does tend to carry the ball too far, Sugawara is much more direct & delivers better crosses, just a shame we never have anyone in the box to get on the end of his decent crosses.

Ten changes to team for tonight against Everton
at 19:22 17 Sep 2024

He's not bothered about winning matches, if he was he'd abandon the crazy tippy tappy stuff.
Tonight's team selection suggests that he's just trying to keep all of his huge squad of players fit & happy.
Saturdays game against Ipswich will be our 5th game of the season & he hasn't got a clue what his best team is.
Alright he's had to deal with an influx of new players but it's reminiscent of the start of last season when it took him months to work out his best team.

RM has made ten changes to the team for tonight's game.
It'll be interesting to see how both Cornet & Fraser perform.
And we might get a ten minute cameo from Ross Stewart.

Southampton V Manchester United The Verdict
at 11:23 16 Sep 2024

Slack Jack does it every game.
He plays statues & ends up marking space.
Space doesn't score goals, players do.
Jack has never improved in all the years he's been here.
How he's ended up Captain I'll never know, he is not a leader & should not be anywhere near the first team. (On the bench possibly because you don't have to mark anyone when you sat on the bench so he'd be good at that).

I agree, Dibbles is Big , Strong , Quick & talented.
He's a natural goalscorer & I reckon he would develop into a great ctr forward.
Come on RM be brave & try Dibbles as a striker.
