European support seems to have left the UK behind. Man City fans were commenting last year on how good the Dortmund fans were, and again, the Bayern fans were apparently great when they went this year. Crystal Palace have managed it to some extent. Those types of chants with lyrics tailored to the Swans could give us a much-needed boost. Looking across at their fans last night, even after we had just scored, was a hell of a spectacle.
They were the most impressive away fans I've seen. I imagine that many with allergies to foreign influences might object, but personally I think it would be incredible to start that type of support down here.
imagine that and more around the entire ground bar one small corner and non-stop for 2 hours + and you have some idea of Petrulol
100% spot on. The fans in Ploiesti were the best I've ever seen at any ground following the Swans home and away since mid '70's. 3 sides of the ground sang, clapped, waved scarfs, all in unison for pre-match, during the game and post match, non-stop. You had to be there to experience it in fairness, but it was truly incredible.
The game was poor, I watched the fans from start to finish. Awesome performance
We are light years away in this country from that sort of support. They must travel over here and think how crap our atmosphere is.

Petrolul Ploiesti home supporters are the best I've witnessed (in terms of non-stop whole stadium involvement / singing, chanting, supporting - even in adversity), having watched The Swans home and away since the mid-70's.
If only all four stands at The Liberty did the same.
I agree, thought they were excellent. i think we will have to get used to being outsung in europe as they all seem to have great support like this on the continent, even massive clubs like bayern were simular against city.
the atmosphere has been policed out of the british game unfortunaltey. If we had brought a flare in we would be banned for life, but we can all see how good they are. Love to take loads of black and white ones in to cardiff, would look great before the game, but i dont want a lifetime ban.
people should be ashamed for not turning up last night. i know its more money again but how long have we wiated for a european night. dont think people are giving the competition and what we have acheived to be in it enough credit.
Think the only way we would get an atmosphere like the vetch would be if they were to allow 'safe standing' ..
On another note gaurenteed Cardiff will end up with a few flares or smoke bombs. Always seem to do it this season more so at away games.
Safe-standing's main benefit is not actually allowing standing but simply making sure that the vocal support is concentrated and that no "Sit down"/"I can't see" types are around to ruin the atmosphere.
The orthodox are always orthodox, regardless of the orthodoxy.
I don't think I've ever seen so much pointless naval gazing in one place before. Dear me.
And being lectured on leaving early or not turning up by someone who sees about three games a season and spends the rest of his time slagging the team and club off on here and then screaming "VICTIM" when people pull him up on it. Heh.

Has Scouce been beastly to you again Andrew?

At least the early leavers show up. 13 odd k home crowd for a European game is frankly embarrassing. Anyone for a 'team is for life not just the premiership' car sticker/t shirt?
Hi there. Some of you write how bad the atmosphere and support in Swansea / the PL is. I wasn't in swansea. But I just want to tell you that, for example, our Player Rodriguez told in an Interview that he was very impressed from the atmosphere and how the whole stadium in swansea supported their team: " They really are into it and live and comment every situation. They shouted from everywhere, not just from the supporters-sector." I personally love this kind of support and enthusiasm and think this is how it should be.
As a St. Gallen Fan it is very nice to read this kind of compliments. we're looking Forward to welcome you in switzerland and have a good game in our Stadion too. before this Cup, i never heard anything about swansey. but in the last day i read some stuff about you're Team and i like it ....
p.s.: there are many ways to take the flares inside the Stadion. outside and inside the Body ;-)
greets from st. Gallen to the very beatifull City swansea

Our fans are not as hardcore as you lot. And we receive instant bans for using a flare. Even if we did have a flare other swansea fans would probably complain! Muppets
I used to take it rather personally when away fans would outsing us or take over our city but this is all part of a big plan dating back to the 80s on tackling the "English Disease" (yes I know we are not English before some wooden-topped pedant points that out).
The British authorities in probable collusion with Sky sought to market the game to families who could afford it. Working-class people were to be priced out. The Premier League was introduced to stamp out loyal and proudly parochial fans and replace them with characterless drones. Atmosphere itself was seen as a pre-cursor to trouble so blearing tannoys, US style all-seaters, goal music etc was introduced to quell this (Hillsborough giving the authorities the excuse to do what they wanted to anyway and making it impossible for anyone to object). When asked about poor atmospheres coupled with soaring ticket prices the odious Richard Scudamore replied with something like: "...but more women and ethnic minorities go now. So na na, na na na!" Although I doubt this as teams like Man City, Wolves, Brum etc used to have large Black followings but now don't seem to.
He is right to bring up demographics in this debate however. You look around yourself at the Liberty and see a clientele that wouldn't look out of place at the UCI or Burger King not a working mans' shop-floor environment like it used to be. And families don't make for good atmospheres.
This has only accelerated since the Prem where our stadium welcomes local Premier League fans (the drones mentioned above) coupled with families on a day out.
Now you can argue the relative merits of modern spectating over old fashioned supporting but it is obvious to me that these factors have caused a decline in the match-day atmosphere.
