Absolutely awesome for the whole match (and during the build up). Those who think Swansea fans are loud are very much mistaken.

A fantastic spectacle of a passionate, loud and proud support.

I do believe the TV commentator voiced his confusion about our fans leaving early. Theirs stayed right until the end and didn't stop singing.

Dunno what they said on TV but you've always been right on this point. I saw one bloke parking up in Landore weasling up about leaving his car in a good position because he had to leave early because he was on the 'night shift'. Our fans were piling out with a good five minutes to go and the St Gallen fans never stopped all night.

You know in the latest batman when Bruce Wayne is climbing out of that pit and the other inmates are chanting something? Were the gallen fans chanting something similar? Sounded good.

Rumours abound that they caused some damage in the Potter's Wheel. No idea if true, or how anyone would notice either way.

Question is how did they manage to get the flares into the stadium when we get searched and bottles of water removed from us. Time to sack some stewards me thinks! Also pathetic support from the fans again, another game when we have been outsung at home by the away fans. And to those who didn't bother coming, don't bother coming to the Valencia game either - PLASTICS

I agree, thought they were excellent. i think we will have to get used to being outsung in europe as they all seem to have great support like this on the continent, even massive clubs like bayern were simular against city.

the atmosphere has been policed out of the british game unfortunaltey. If we had brought a flare in we would be banned for life, but we can all see how good they are. Love to take loads of black and white ones in to cardiff, would look great before the game, but i dont want a lifetime ban.

people should be ashamed for not turning up last night. i know its more money again but how long have we wiated for a european night. dont think people are giving the competition and what we have acheived to be in it enough credit.

I wasn't there last night.

However, I was there for both the Malmo and Petrolul home games and have booked flights, car hire and hotel for the St Gallen away game.

I have a ticket for the Valencia home game - am I allowed to go?

As for people leaving 4 minutes from time-feckoff forever.
Its not to go o night shift is it?
To miss the traffic ?OMG
I simply fail to see hoew anyone could have left 5 mins from the end let alone 15 mins.

We have much work to do

For some reason, I had an image beforehand of a couple of dozen middle aged investment bankers and cuckoo clock makers turning up wearing felt hats with feathers in them.
Wow, total miscalculation! Looking forward to my trip to St Gallen even more now, but will obviously be a tad more careful about selecting pre-match watering hole....

thought their fans were awesome best ive seen down here
0
St Gallen Fans on 11:44 - Oct 4 with 4679 viewsSA1_Jack

Their fans were great start to finish. Talked to a few of them before the game who wanted to shake hands and say hello, they were tidy enough. The flares looked awesome to be honest but we all know we cant do that over here. (The Croats did the same before kick off against Wales in the qualifier I went to and they were probably the second best away fans I have seen for noise and passion compared to their numbers - second only to last night I reckon, was close though). God knows what they were singing though, I'm sure one song sounded like they were singing "Chico Chico" at the end, lol.

I used to take it rather personally when away fans would outsing us or take over our city but this is all part of a big plan dating back to the 80s on tackling the "English Disease" (yes I know we are not English before some wooden-topped pedant points that out).

The British authorities in probable collusion with Sky sought to market the game to families who could afford it. Working-class people were to be priced out. The Premier League was introduced to stamp out loyal and proudly parochial fans and replace them with characterless drones. Atmosphere itself was seen as a pre-cursor to trouble so blearing tannoys, US style all-seaters, goal music etc was introduced to quell this (Hillsborough giving the authorities the excuse to do what they wanted to anyway and making it impossible for anyone to object). When asked about poor atmospheres coupled with soaring ticket prices the odious Richard Scudamore replied with something like: "...but more women and ethnic minorities go now. So na na, na na na!" Although I doubt this as teams like Man City, Wolves, Brum etc used to have large Black followings but now don't seem to.

He is right to bring up demographics in this debate however. You look around yourself at the Liberty and see a clientele that wouldn't look out of place at the UCI or Burger King not a working mans' shop-floor environment like it used to be. And families don't make for good atmospheres.

This has only accelerated since the Prem where our stadium welcomes local Premier League fans (the drones mentioned above) coupled with families on a day out.

Now you can argue the relative merits of modern spectating over old fashioned supporting but it is obvious to me that these factors have caused a decline in the match-day atmosphere.

Don't take it personally.

I had quite a shock to see how many of their fans where there last night. I like someone above expected a few hundred.

They certainly have a good set of songs going (even though I couldn't understand what they were singing) and seemed like they had a conductor as they were all in sync.

Their drummer really new what he was doing (no offence POG as you do a great job)

Have we ever managed to get a drum into away games been to quite a few but never heard it.

We are the first Welsh club to reach the Premier League Simples

Why are fans going to be wary when visiting St Gallen? Thet are Swiss ffs, they don't have a nasty bone in their bodies

While I agree with much of your post, it still stands that 700 or so away fans completely outsung our East Stand which seats 6000 supposedly hardcore fans.

The singing end in the East must have up to 3000 there, so it should never really happen. Just shows you can't blame it all on women and children.

We've gone away and outsung much larger numbers. Look at Old Trafford it happens every week it's nothing new.

The thing is the East isn't a "Singing End" in the same way you get on the continent or even Anfield, Palace etc. There are still plenty of back-poking killjoys. Atmosphere needs a congregation of supporters. If every few seats there's someone objecting about the noise/telling others to sit down it's never going to work.

And can I just state I did not blame families for the current situation I blamed Sky/Govt although if you choose not to go in the family stand I don't think you've got grounds to complain over colourful language or standing personally.

The orthodox are always orthodox, regardless of the orthodoxy.

Odd, that. Most people want to HEAR the final whistle. To each his own.

I don't care. I'm old. I don't have to.

After reading this thread, I was relieved to have a mystery cleared up.

All during the game, I thought it was the Swansea supporters singing a whole new repertoire, and in Welsh!
