FA statement incident in the 24 th minute not seen by the ref…ie when he cleaned out Kieran Morgan…as everyone said red card all day

If you missed it….

Thanks for posting we were not that far away, from where we were sitting but missed the incident itself. What we did watch was McLean bitching and moaning at Morgan after he had cleaned him out with his arm, now that I've seen the video, we didn't like what he was doing at the time, now we just know he's a very nasty piece of work....

You are obsessed with him, which is totally bizarre for such a fine player. So Cook should have taken retribution and got himself sent off early in the game, that would have shown true leadership in your eyes?

I wasn't far wrong when I said you would drag Cook into any kind of blame, now for not protecting a young player in an incident that was nothing to do with him? I was in the Loft, behind Cook, and I didn't see it either.

Nonsense from you again,

Read my post,

A so called Captain / Leader sees a young player in his team clutching his jaw in agony and for me asks what happened?

He doesn't laugh & joke with the thug who did it,

Decent Championship Centre Back, no Captain, no Leader, no Alan McDonald.

Wasn't it you who moaned like a squealing pig last week about being unfairly scapegoated (hilarious in itself), yet you think its perfectly fine to dig out a player who - even with his various apparently unscheduled absences - played a significant role in keeping us in the Championship during his time with us?

I had a long chat with Ollie about Lynch after we'd beaten Forest 2-1 (managed btw at the time by Warbs Warburton no less) to ensure we stayed up that season, and I remember clearly marking Lynch as MoM that day. Ollie also was fulsome in his praise of him, and said that keeping us up that season was, he believed, the best achievement of his management career to date.

Was Lynch really that good?

I seem to recall him starting well but then fading away and accumulating all those bookings at certain times of the year.

Really don't remember him being that influential that he kept us up!

it's a good effort, you've gone through an entire 90 minutes where Cook produced header after header, challenge after challenge, played a massive part in a clean sheet.

And you've dug up two incidents which are barely related to him, the Dunne challenge and Morgan getting attacked.

Was the executive box you were in a bit cold? If so, it was Cook's fault. He distracted the engineer just before kick off when he was warming up.

I mean, there's been plenty of players worthy of finding anything to blame them for over the years, but how you think Cook is one of them is lost on me.

It's poor Steve's fault that in a darkened room, he looks just a little bit like Charlie Austin.

No wonder PRR keeps digging him out

I'll say it, I think that's soft for a ban. A yellow, certainly, but violent conduct? He definitely sticks an arm across him to stop the run, but I don't think he's led with his elbow. Difficult to see on that video, but doesn't appear to have his fist clenched. One of those that maybe gets given on the day, but a retrospective ban seems harsh. I'd be cheesed off if Field got hit with a ban for that.

I think he knows exactly what he’s doing and he’s very much ‘that sort of player’.

Now I don't know the finer details of the rule book these days but from that video it was firstly premeditated and secondly he used his arm which caught him in the neck/face.
My guess is that McLean was trying to stop Morgan but quite possibly was just sticking his arm out and didn't realise he had caught him that high up but surely it's no defence for a premeditated action.

Gary,

Read my posts again,

I said senior players, I said yellow card,

I deliberately didn't name or mention Cook as some are overly sensitive,

I've never seen a leader in him since he played no return hospital balls to Ossie Kakay and then berated him,

If I'm playing inside Ossie Kakay I'm talking and encouraging him for 90 minutes, step, hold, get tight, not hanging him out to dry,

Had a decent game Saturday as a player, as a Leader he let Morgan down.

I think we will have to agree to disagree, Parky. If you are now trying to blame Cook for Kakay's deficiencies, I can't go any further as I am speechless. One of the most deficient players in the hoops that I have ever seen....I am normally wrong on such matters but the fact he now plays for....er...um....maybe for once I am right :-)

Anyway, I used to mostly agree with you on Dykes, for the record. We couldn't half do with him now.

Fair enough, if I'm playing with Ossie I know he's positionally all over the place so I'm talking him through the game, with Morgan I've got his back,

Cook is an excellent pro who's ever present and a 7 most weeks, just not beyond reproach when he makes occasional errors,

For Chefs benefit for his professionalism he is polar opposite to our former striker he mentions.

"If I'm playing inside Ossie Kakay I'm talking and encouraging him for 90 minutes, step, hold, get tight, not hanging him out to dry"

The "if" in this sentence is doing quite a lot of work. *If* I'm playing right wing for QPR, I'm placing at least ten perfect crosses a match on the striker's right foot and forehead and we win the league.

I wonder who Osman Kakay would've preferred to have playing alongside him as captain? Steve Cook or ParkRoyalR?

We'll probably never know.

I reckon Morgan would have preferred me on Saturday, trust me, I wouldn't be laughing & joking with McLean after he elbowed my 18 year old team mate on the jaw,

Coming back to the incident, McLean tried to clothesline Morgan, not sure he meant to elbow him flush on the jaw, but he did.

That and the stamp on Madsen were both Reds for me.

I in no way want to defend McLean, but to me his post-arm antics towards Morgan had a distinct whiff of "I could be in trouble, so if I (over)act like Morgan is faking it, the ref might be enough in doubt to let me off". I think Cook knew that, so I don't see any leadership lapse by not defending his young teammate. McLean was acting to influence the ref, not to bully Morgan, and that's why Cook was laughing.

Please note that my opinion is based on watching the game online, far away from the live action.

I wonder if Cook was laughing at McLean (and his antics) to wind him up rather laughing than with him?

Whatever, McLean clearly deliberately raised his arm at another player and having struck his head that's clearly serious foul play and a red if the ref and lino were any good.

Thanks to modern TV and social media, I think the days of Alan McDonald or Gavin Maguire going round giving out retribution are mostly gone and counter productive.

I'm not in any way trying to suggest that Lynch was the Second Coming of Glenn Roeder, but he definitely held his own in that rag-tag of a squad, as both Ollie and Birch were very keen to stress when I asked about this.

Birch was very keen not to name names specifically, but he did say that there were others in the squad he didn't see in as positive a light.

Looking at it from my pov, I accept that these things incur a red card these days, and if McLean has "previous", then that would explain the ban being for 4 games.

That said, I genuinely don't think he was attempting to "take out" the QPR player, rather as 'RBlock' says, it was much more likely a simple attempt to ward off the run.

While I absolutely hate it when a player goes down as if poleaxed, when contact has been minimal, as looks to have been the case here. This is made worse when a player clutches his face after having been hit somewhere else on the body, in the knowledge that any contact to the head will automatically receive a red card if seen by the ref. For this is not just cheating an opponent, but also the ref and the spirit of the game generally. (Btw, I say that when it's a Bees player, too, since it's a blight on the whole game)

Finally, I don't see the relevance in this case of the QPR player being a youngster, since I doubt very much whether McLean even knew who it was he was blocking, never mind that it was a kid.

Newbee, wrong forum and your post is completely wrong,

McLean clotheslined Morgan and in doing so smashed him flush on the jaw with his elbow,

In no way was Morgan play acting, the lad was seriously hurt and reacted with shock,

Wasn't a deliberate elbow but easily could have lost some teeth, Red Card all day.

Norwich Fan, QPR Bond holder!

Not taking anything away from the actual incident, what most Norwich Fans are more angry about is how the FA has dealt with it. Why did they go back and look at it?, and if they were going to do it why wait until 3hours before kick off to say our player was banned for 4 matches? Had that happened in game and he got a red then you'd have a few days of game planning rather than last minute unplanned changes.

Not sure what's got into the squad recently but they've got scrappy, think it was 6 yellows in the last match! That will now be 8 games banned for Kenny before Christmas which is disgraceful for our "captain"

If you hear our manager's comments after the Portsmouth match he isn't arguing the legitimacy of the foul, his concern is it is now opening up a new precedent for retrospective punishment. It sounds like he will send a list to the FA.

This was his quote
"I’ve never had anything like that in my career. I will have to go through every Championship game to clearly find incidents in all the games."

"And of course, we need to appeal them. I've never seen anything like this, but they opened the door for a new strategy, a new way of working, and a new competition for us, because I expect that the same will happen to all the other teams. Otherwise, we don't compete on equal terms."

Let's not forget your player smacking Sainz in the face in the 3rd minute for example, What stops the FA from coming back and retrospectively banning there?

The Match before you was Luton and the referee's decisions were awful, we've had so many bad calls this year and I think we've put in a few complaints which may be why they've reviewed our matches.

But it is more a question of is the FA going to retrospectively be reviewing every match like some after-event VAR. I don't expect the club to take this lightly and could be opening a can of worms for the football league. I guess its a kind of "watch this space"
0
McLean suspended for 4 matches on 14:22 - Dec 11 with 1261 viewsLanhoop

From what I see, Dunne did not smack Sainz in the face. Both players challenged for the ball and Sainz’s head made contact with the back of Dunne’s shoulder. Accidental and both players challenged in a natural manner. McLean was a very different situation.

I do agree about retrospective action being wrong in most instances. If your manager wants to go and find examples of serious foul play that was not seen or punished by the ref he can fill his boots. If he just wants to find wrong decisions he should find a new career. To be honest he’d be better off spending his time getting his team to focus on not getting in trouble.
