Portsmouth player connections on 15:12 - Oct 16 by Northernr | And I've just come out of a panel session about how AI is going to take my job. |
I can empathise, Clive! As an editor/writer, I also get multiple low-paying jobs ads inviting me to work as a consultant on optimising AI. Basically, they want to data-scrape my knowledge base (which I spent years as a scholar and writer building up) for a pittance to usher in the post-human world order. Two MAs and a PhD? Great stuff - now hook yourself up for the new technology for £15 p.h! It literally reminds me of that Dr Who and Davros story where Davros is converting dead human bodies into Dalek food! Modern life is destroying itself! Oh yeah, and bears shit in the woods, doncha know! In the words of David Shrigley, f*ck the world! [Post edited 16 Oct 15:34]

Portsmouth player connections on 15:37 - Oct 16 by Hayesender | I'm gutted there's no tv footage of that miss. No matter how much I try to explain how bad a miss it was, seeing it was believing it. I, with the rest of the away end was celebrating a certain goal |
I missed it. Somehow my view got blocked at the crucial moment. Probably saved me a fortune on therapy, though.

I've known Fearless for my entire adult life. We have never once had a conversation where it is not raised.

You'd be hard pressed to find a more extreme case of a career that initailly promised so much and declined so badly (60 goals for Fulham in 200 odd games+ a handful of U21 caps) before bombing with us (7 goals in 50 apps) and then being hounded out of Norwich. Finished at 28 through a cruciate + knee injury. You can't really ask where it all went wrong because it never really went right! The bloke should probably have gone into plumbing. Any other specimens for genuinely promising players who turned to sh*t after they joined us?

Indeed, and I'm blowed if I can find any meaningful connection between Ainsworth and Portsmouth. He might have been to see the Mary Rose but he has neither played for them nor managed them (yet).

Portsmouth player connections on 18:17 - Oct 16 with 1234 views | DannyPaddox | Artificial intelligence seems to have missed Bobby Campbell and Martyn Busby who went on loan to Portsmouth for 6 games in 75/75. In the Pompey squad also was Paul Went - didn’t he break Busby’s leg a few years earlier at Craven Cottage? A curious rag bag team Portsmouth had that season. Chris Lawler at the end of his career. Steve Foster at the beginning. The man who never became the next biggest thing - Peter Marinello, and (no introduction needed) George Graham. Portsmouth finished bottom of the old Division 2 - I guess that lot didn’t gel. Has anyone mentioned Dusko Tošić?

Portsmouth player connections on 20:56 - Oct 16 with 1058 views | PeterHucker | My oldest mate is a Pompey fan and is coming with me on Saturday. When we were teenagers, I used to go to Fratton Park if we weren't at home & he used to come to Loftus Road when they weren't at home. That was back in the late 80s & I used to wind him up that Pompey were basically a team QPR and Palace rejects. They had Warren Neill, John Gregory, Gavin Maguire, Mick Fillery from us. Vince Hilaire, Billy Gilbert, Noel Blake from Palace. Plus quite a few others I've forgotten. The late Alan Ball was their manager back then, he may have had a high voice but man, he was loud. You could hear him shouting from the Fratton End behind the goal!!!

Went definitely broke Busby's leg. The worst "challenge" I've seen on a football pitch. Chris Lawler, the original goalscoring right back who scored 61 goals for Liverpool. How George Cohen was in the England team instead of him is beyond my comprehension.
Portsmouth player connections on 10:19 - Oct 17 with 746 views | DannyPaddox | And the Portsmouth manager that season? … Ian St John. It’s a funny old game Greavsie. Would love to know more about that 75/76 Portsmouth season. Has the feel of a QPR basket case year - a few fading star names - a bit of young talent - a questionable loan (questionable in regards imagine the dressing room chemistry between Busby and Went - presuming they were in the squad at the same time). Anyway after 14 years a Division 2 team Pompey Went to Division 3 and the season after for the first time in their history Went to Division 4. It took the arrival of Bobby Campbell to reverse their sorry fortunes. Postscript: XTC tells me when he sleeps he still sometimes hears the Went horror-tackle on Busby. Although it could just be flatulence.

A young Chris Kamara (recently bought out of the Royal Navy) made his debut that season and future ROI boss Eoin Hand were also in that squad.

I was standing there also. I don't need TV footage, it is ingrained in my memory.
