Walsall home - match thread 21:12 - Apr 5 with 31605 views | EllDale | Before anything else is discussed could someone confirm that the kick-off is 3.00pm please? The official site states this but I’m sure that I read somewhere that it had been brought forward to 2.00pm? Thanks.

So Bentley didn't get any of the luck but McNulty is getting all of the luck now.

Tell you what does help, four-four-f’n two. Especially when it was actually that.

Walsall home - match thread on 18:52 - Apr 7 with 4126 views | tony_roch975 | Max Taylor my MOTM - immense defending throughout and sprayed some good passes. EEBL & Odoh (especially first half) very good too; all the others had a sloppy error in them which could have cost us

why so - as he proved today Odoh is our most effective front runner

Today was reminiscent of the Good Friday game vs Shrewsbury when the ref gave a pen in the last min then changed his mind, before Hendo sealed the win with a runaway right at the end. The Brierley goal was obvs a mad decision but their disallowed goal just before Taylor scored was the break that won it - not clear why it was disallowed although it did look offside, despite no flag. We won on Easter Monday that year and stayed up although that was v bury

They changed it and Henderson moved further forward and it created more issues for their defence to deal with. Before then it was like watching Henderson when Hill all of a sudden thought he could play midfield. The game passed him by.

Walsall home - match thread on 18:59 - Apr 7 with 4062 views | EllDale | Don’t really know where to start here. From the my vantage point in the Sandy their first goal looked offside. Or to put it another way, just as offside as Henderson’s disallowed efforts earlier in the season against Hartlepools and Carlisle. And just as contentious. I’d swear on a stack of bibles as well that Brierley’s attempt for the fourth goal was never over the line. I fail for the life of me so see how the linesman could have seen it? If he’d been level with the line then post would have been in the way? Anyone, four goals scored in two successive home games. Two wins out of the last three at home and two victories on the bounce. Can’t complain about that run of form tonight. The first 40 minutes were so frustrating though. BJ seemed to be turning into BBM lite with those short goal kicks. What’s the logic behind Taylor tapping a goal kick to ROD for him to kick downfield? If the ball comes straight back then the centrebacks are playing their forwards onside. We just don’t have the skill set in our defenders to do it. Why invite them to within 20 yards of your goal? To be fair their main tactic seemed to be the long throw and hope to cause chaos in the box. And credit to BJ his tactics and formation certainly puzzled them with Odoh roaming round the middle of the field. Big defenders are far more comfortable with a Quigley type opponent. SAJ was coming in for some stick but he seems reluctant to do anything positive when playing as a right back and I was surprised that Seriki didn’t replace him in the second half. One thing BJ seems to be doing is rehabilitate EBJ’s outcasts. They may well be needed although lack of match fitness may count against them. The season is still alive though. If we do get relegated then it will seemingly not be without a fight. I wonder where we would have been if Brierley had been available in January and Adshead and Bennett had been available for the last couple of months?

Walsall home - match thread on 19:08 - Apr 7 with 3982 views | NorthernDale | The win gives us, some faint hope, but we fought today and played well, which was a joy to see. I will give credit where credit is due, I thought Mellor had a good game on the wing and Odoh was prepared to get stuck in and had two decent shots on goal in the first half. Hopefully we can get something on Monday now.

Mellor was decent today, his best game, and Odoh has been improving over the last few weeks and looks much more confident and effective now. Always looked like there was a player in there.
Walsall home - match thread on 20:26 - Apr 7 with 3509 views | Sandyman | Scoreboard going down towards the end made the finish more old school intense. Sure the board held up for 5 minutes minimum added time went up late according to our timepieces. Drop the tippy tappy that led to numerous scares and their second goal, and the silly goal kick routines (back to the abysmal days of BBM) and we can only get better. Well done Dale.
Walsall home - match thread on 20:27 - Apr 7 with 3501 views | frenzied | Congrats to Jim and staff at least hes getting a tune out of this team. 4th goal looked dubious..Brierley offers so much to this team. Some dodgy moments in the first half. Dodgson improved in the second half. Odoh looks much more confident in having a go now. A point om Monday would be well earned
Walsall home - match thread on 20:52 - Apr 7 with 3328 views | sweetcorn | Can't help but feel if we got rid of Bentley and got a proper manager in 2 months ago when most fans thought it was time, things may have looked a bit different. We've won 2 out of 2 since he left and this is with a virtual novice in charge. Call it rub of the green, luck or whatever else but these are the facts. We should have never got JB to start with and to leave him lingering like a bad smell was a serious error and has probably cost us dearly.

Walsall home - match thread on 21:29 - Apr 7 with 3124 views | dawlishdale | A tremendously entertaining game played in the Spring Sunshine. Just about had everything...moments of excellent play, moments of madness, awful officiating and some very good fortune. Their first goal looked offside although I haven't seen it again. But the far side assistant who looked hopeless for most of the match didn't give it. Our equaliser could also have been a marginal decision, but the second goal by Odoh was a great move. Pretty sure it went well over the line before Lloyd confirmed it. Some awful play by our backline gifted them an equaliser and it looked like the wind had been removed from our sails, but a really good strike from Taylor restored the lead. as for the 4th goal, I thought Odoh was offside and should have been flagged because he went towards the ball, causing their keeper to slice the ball to Brierley, who's good effort produced a decent save by the keeper. The clown on the far side gave a goal when it clearly hadn't gone in, and so it finished 4-2. Plus points : We can play when we put our minds to it. Lloyd, Odoh and Brierley are a handful. second home game we've scored 4 on the bounce. Minus points: We sat too deep at times (all back for corners is a real no no for me) we buggered about with the ball at the back when we aren't good enough to even try it, and many would say we benefitted from some downright rank bad officiating by the far side linesman. The very faint hope of escape is still with us...but moreso, the level of performances since EBJ was sacked has lifted considerably. Should the probable happen; sadly, the blame will be placed firmly and squarely with the Board who have dithered and dallied when easy decisions needed making.

The Bentley era decisions to play Eastwood from Sheff U and let Ethan Brierley be at Sheff U instead of playing here are the ones that have a major part in our impending relegation. The Stockdale-led start to the season impacted hugely as well.

Absolutely, to give stockdale a well backed summer, to only lose the faith 8 games in raised alarm bells (I thought stockdale was out of his depth BTW), we then went after an underwhelming managerial choice in Bentley and then did the polar opposite and kept the faith for too long despite no indicators that he was capable of turning it around. I don't want to slag the board off too much as they clearly aren't footballing men, but they took the reigns in the clubs hour of need and that alone deserves applause, but we've paid the price for their inexperience. Still hoping for a miracle. Edit: meant to quote dawlishblue [Post edited 7 Apr 2023 22:21]

Glad Mellor's contribution has been mentioned by a couple, he was a thorn in Walsalls's side from the outset, constant harrying, getting in behind. He contributed well in defence at times too and deserves credit. Yes, he is lightweight but he is not without heart, well played son

Gerrrit forward was what Jim Bentley specialised in. The same group of players have now won two in two by playing football. Maybe the players weren't to blame?
