Really sad news, I don't know why given the amount of games he did but i always associate his voice with Italia 90, and in particular the semi final against Germany.

I had a long chat with him after a match at the Dell when he was in the Directors' lounge.
Nice guy, very complimentary about Saints whilst remaining suitably neutral. Liked a glass of red wine or two as well...
His 'rivalry' with Barry Davies at the time reminded me of the Shilton/Clemence competition to be England's no 1 with Shilts edging it - Just like Motson did.
Anyway, seemed a really pleasant guy and should have been around much longer. |  |
