January Transfer Window Rumours 10:51 - Dec 30 with 150235 views | numptydumpty | What we have got. What we need. And what we can afford. My personal view. No one to sell currently. Our saleable assets are at their lowest valuations currently given recent form. Others will know contract situations and wages. Etc. I understand there is zero money to spend. Am personally expecting three or four loanees, at least one striker, one full back, and one centre midfielder in Johansen style. No signings though. Bonne, Thomas, Nico and possibly Roberts - I would try to loan back, loan elsewhere or sell. Shodipo I think if someone on a par or better is available likely attempt be loaned out. It's though a notoriously quiet window so could perhaps only be two or three deals done and if we can't get certain players off our books , be it temporarily or permanently, I feel sadly the replacements will not be incoming !! The comments well we need two strikers that can put ball in back of the net !! Pure genius insight !! Money talks. Hopefully Critchley has his own contacts and we shall see... Crikey - apologies for crappy post - happy new year Rangers joys and girls !!! [Post edited 30 Dec 2022 11:02]

January Transfer Window Rumours on 10:58 - Jan 6 by Dixie_CT | Barnes would be another one for the say one thing, then do another. That is what is frustrating. I don’t think we have an Academy that is in a position to constantly provide the first team with players that can perform at that level, hardly any club does, it’s a fantasy. It is arrogant to think we can continually create players from the age of 8 (Langley, Furlong, Kakay) or polish rough diamonds like Eze and the Board are foolish to believe it. If we are meant to believe the plan is for these types of players to fill the first team and be sold for huge profits, then we truly are being taken for mugs. Having a balance to recruitment is a sensible approach. You need to have a mix of potential sprinkled with people who can get the job done. M’lud Exhibit A: Mr Clint Hill and Mr Shaun Derry [Post edited 6 Jan 2023 11:01]

Hill and Derry were great... but they were signings which fitted in with the remit which was Promotion at all costs. The manager was a promotion specialist, the wages we were handing out were huge, the squad was massive as well (Rob Hulse as a back up striker). Hill and Derry were signings for the there and then with no eyes on the future as we had no eyes on the future. If you sign Ashley Barnes on loan in order to finish 12th as opposed to 16th then what's the point if he is only here for the short term. If we'd chucked a load of money at brighton in the summer for Ferguson and then developed him into a sellable asset then that's understandable

January Transfer Window Rumours on 13:12 - Jan 6 with 5528 views | hertshoops | A thought on the Roberts 15 game thing - if its true Maybe we put the clause in to cover us getting bent over by Dirty Lids Maybe we thought Willock would be away this window (and might still) in which case keeping Roberts would be important. Letting him be recalled by Lids (like Wells back to Burnley) - would mean us needing 2 replacements ? What has actually happened is somewhat different

January Transfer Window Rumours on 08:45 - Jan 6 by 89_50 | Richards is a strange one. I'm convinced there's talent there (and PBBC must have thought so, given how glowingly he spoke about him, for whatever that's worth), but he's made of glass - which is why we're able to get him. Didn't he arrive injured, then did his thigh in training, and injured once more at the tail-end of the World Cup? If that can be overcome (he's only just turned 22), I think he could be very useful longer-term. |
I think he's a longterm replacement for Owens in the perpetually injured role.

January Transfer Window Rumours on 14:28 - Jan 6 with 5260 views | EalingHoop81 | Agree entirely with Northern’s points, but in this instance could they also be looking at the attacking options if Willock or Chair are sold in the window? We looked half decent with 3 behind the striker against Sheff Utd and always need Chair and Willock in tandom too pose a proper threat. If one is sold we need a replacement attacker. I can see the current logic in Tim playing -we need to stop the rot and get some points etc but longer term Dozell, Amos, Richards need to be playing far more. We had the same issue with Bright a couple of years ago and it cost us £££ because we realised his potential for too late

Yes, I think we needed Tim this season too, especially with Stefan's fitness problems as well. I doubt that either Amos or Dozzell will ever be regular 1st team selections in the Championship. Amos has only been good enough when fully fit and capable of speed pressing for at least 45 minutes, when he did really well. Not sure he can do that now. Dozzell has a lovely pass in him but gives me the impression he cant concentrate. Hope I'm wrong. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
January Transfer Window Rumours on 17:30 - Jan 6 with 4653 views | Nushnool | I asked myself the question “what’s the point of playing loan players if we’re going to finish mid table anyway?” For example, if we have a season with Laird at right back and one with Kakay there, that could be what, the difference between 12th and 16th place? (All hypotheticals.) The best reason I can come up with for doing that is a) a tiny bit more prize money (which wouldn’t pay for the loan), and b) it makes our other players better, e.g. the better the team and the performances, the better (and more valuable) Dickie and Willock etc. become.

Yes, that could happen. Also nobody really knows before the season starts if it's going to be 12th or 16th. It could be the difference between relegation or survival (where you may need more experienced players) or top 6 and 10th. Variables like long term Injuries to a few key players like the last part of last season, can send most predictions out of the window.

The manager has to have final say really, I remember when Les was appointed the naysayers said that no manager would work under a director of football if they were dictated to who they had in their squad. Of course they were partly right in that no manager would work under that kind of system but it's obvious to most that these things need to have a bit of give and take. The recruitment team identify players which fit our profile for positions which need strengthening and the manager has final say. Sometimes like Paal the two are aligned, other times like Balogun it doesn't fit the profile but we don't necessarily know the full reasons. We have JCS, Dunne, Dickie and Masterson I assume they wanted an extra player to cover playing a back 3 and the compromise was that it's cheap and short term where we would otherwise have covered with a loan which may cost more, have clauses about playing time and be a player we have no chance of buying. Without a DoF I doubt that we would have bought Eze, BOS, Dunne and numerous others that were not first team players when we bought them. We discount them as not being youth academy products but they all went to the development squad before getting into the first team and no manager would put resources towards that rather than the first team when their job is so precarious. If we start judging the DoF like we do managers I worry that we'll end up with a DoF who only worries about the first team too. On the youth team it certainly seems like it's improving with the win against Spurs. How long do you give them to turn that around? Players in the U18's will likely have benefited from a better youth system for more years than the previous U18's etc, so at what point do you judge it?

I don’t think Dozzell will ever be ready and Amos is still a maybe. Their lack of influence and ability to affect or dictate a game weakens our midfield considerably. IMO we should be looking to cover Johansen and Paal. Really don’t understand the need for another academy no 10 wannabe. As for Roberts, he showed some glimpses against Sheffield that he can play a bit. If he can string five consecutive 90 minute performance’s together, we might start getting somewhere.
January Transfer Window Rumours on 23:29 - Jan 6 with 3882 views | stanistheman | I am not sure which of our own players the loans are blocking. We have seen Kakay over a few seasons and he is not really going to be consistently good at this level. He will occasionally have a good game, but that’s about it. Iroegbenum is keeping out Amos and Dozzell. The former is nearly always injured and not much of a tackler and the latter has this and last season played as if he couldn’t be bothered to get out of 1st gear. Iroegbenum makes some errors but from what I have see is willing to run from box to box and also runs at players with the ball something neither of the others do. Surely any winger we sign that keeps Shodipo out is s good oneðŸ˜.

This would be the same Dozzell who started away games against Watford and Sheffield United in which we won, as well as starting in the draw against Norwich. Teams that will in all likelihood make the play-offs, at the very least, by the season's end. He's only 23 and if he were afforded more game time instead of playing Tim for another club's benefit all of the time, he may improve further. The amount of games in which Tim has played and made many an error or whose effort levels can be called into question are numerous. At the top of my head: poor games against Luton, only marginally better against Birmingham, penalty concession against Reading, lack of effort at key moments against Huddersfield, which led to goals being scored against us.

This is the thing. The real problem is having a bench full of contracted players, not really good enough, who it’s impossible to get rid of.
January Transfer Window Rumours on 23:50 - Jan 6 with 3839 views | dubaistu | Wonder if we'll be offsetting some of the expected Eze cash for Malcolm Ebiowei. Always wanted the kid before he went to Palace, Festy Ebosele isn't playing that much at Udinese either, would have him too in in heartbeat, although I assume Watford have first dibs on that.
January Transfer Window Rumours on 07:27 - Jan 7 with 3544 views | NorthantsHoop | Like the potential if true that we might be in for Jamal Lowe. He is sort of striker who could thrive at QPR (bit like Wells did) looked very decent when he was at Swansea two or three years ago and offers a bit more threat up front. January Transfer Window Rumours on 07:27 - Jan 7 with 3544 views | numptydumpty | Our main concern is having places taken up by cobtracted players that sadly will NEVER make it here now even as a reserve. Obviously Shodipo, Thomas, Masterson and now sadly Adomah also. I always hope Dozzell and Amos come good. Amos perhaps could have done but his injuries have totally blighted his talents. Dozzell could still yet be decent but its taking time and not sure he will. Kakay, I do not include in this as he is always a decent squad player and always gives his best. I fear also we would be better off without Johsnsen. On form, he is brilliant but injuries again, I feel its time when we can to say good bye. Then we have contracted players who could be on their way to better things, I doubt this window, but possibly at end of season. Seny, Dickie, Willock, Chair. So ignoring loan players where does that leave us with contracted players that could be left with at end of season. that we WANT to be here and LIKELY to be here. Paal, Dunne, JCS, Kakay, Field, Dykes, Armstrong From that lot, many don't want Dykes. Armstrong it seems needs loaning out to give him confidence at a lower level, Kakay is a reserve and Field is another one who could go elsewhere. Paal again, his partner pregnant in another country so possibly could leave. And JCS I feel is fine for us but does seem injury prone. So there we have it , looking on the positive side from current squad only one we want, decent player, not injury ridden, does a job for us and unlikely not to go anywhere , is Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Dunne !!!! I believe in Jimmy. He can play in all eleven positions and cover the bench, be the captain fantastic and be the manager on the pitch. Looking on the bright side of life !!!!!!! 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 [Post edited 7 Jan 2023 7:29]

January Transfer Window Rumours on 07:44 - Jan 7 with 3484 views | dmm | Just looked up Jamal Lowe's stats. In the Championship he scores 1 in 5. Dykes scores 1 in 4 in the Championship. As more of a right winger than a striker I guess that's not too bad. He'd certainly bring pace to our side and is probably as good as we can expect. However, given the discussion on loans taking our own players' places, he'd likely do just that without being an out and out goal getter.

January Transfer Window Rumours on 10:49 - Jan 6 by Northernr | Well it's been part of the policy at Luton and Brentford in this league to avoid loans where possible - obviously there were exceptions to that, Winston Reid, Dewsbury-Hall, but they go out of their way not to loan players. I just want us to be consistent. We still, IMO, have situations where we've got a manager signing and pushing players for one reason, a DOF doing the same for another reason, and a HOR likewise. I know it's only a WLS rumour at this point, but does six months of Ashley Barnes fit with anything at all we're meant to be doing here other than Critchley doesn't want to get the sack in six games time? It's just Balogun again.
This post has been edited by an administrator |
I suspect (and hope) Barnes is journalistic fiction. He's likely to be available and QPR need extra striking options. But a 33yo on loan does not fit with anything the hierarchy have said over last 18 months. Lowe makes more sense. More than Ewoibei who plays a position where we have cover. As for Richards, it seemed to make sense when he joined but hasn't played. Who would he replace? Johansen, Dozzell, Amos, Albert?

January Transfer Window Rumours on 09:00 - Jan 7 with 3279 views | dmm | Richards looks like he plays something between an 8 and a 10 judging by the little we've seen of him. If we're to play the 4231 formation Critchley is favouring at the moment he'd play in the front 3 not the back 2.
January Transfer Window Rumours on 09:58 - Jan 7 with 3099 views | Wilkinswatercarrier | I really rate Dozzell, if he is played in the correct position. When he signed I thought he was seen as a long term replacement for Johansen. Now he is behind Tim, who I see little reason to have taken in on loan. I'm just totally confused as to what the club is trying to achieve. Surely we should be sticking some of the U21s on the bench and giving them 10 minutes, sink or swim and all that.
January Transfer Window Rumours on 10:48 - Jan 7 with 2978 views | dannyblue | If Dykes does go this window, Barnes could be a stop gap for the rest of the season, and the combined deals could make us more effective and save us money. Without Dykes, at least for this season, we appear to be plugging gaps. Barnes is okay but he's not a prolific scorer either. Last season Dykes was our least experienced forward and now we only have him as a recognised forward. Unless we actually look at someone like Macaulay Langstaff in the Nationwide league we have no money to bring anyone of note in.
