Obafemi, Dhanda and Whittaker in the U23s side 15:21 - Nov 22 with 3698 viewsKeithHaynes

From the official site.
It didn’t go well, Obafemi subbed after 60.

Swans 1 Charlton 3

Morgan Whittaker got on the scoresheet but his goal could not prevent Swansea City Under-23s falling to a 3-1 defeat against their Charlton counterparts.

Whittaker scored the only goal for the Swans, but two goals for Dylan Gavin and an incredible free-kick from Aaron Henry were enough to claim three points for the Addicks.

Swansea started the game positively, controlling possession despite not creating many clear-cut chances. Whittaker came closest in the early stages, his curling effort going just wide of the post.

But it would be Charlton who would take the lead after Gavin intercepted the ball on the edge of the Swans box. Harry Jones tried to clear his shot on the line, but could only turn it into the home net.

Just two minutes later, the Addicks doubled their lead. Henry spotted goalkeeper Nico Defreitas-Hansen off his line and hit an excellent shot from a free-kick in his own half to lob the goalkeeper and make it 2-0.

Charlton continued to test Defreitas-Hansen, with Gavin and Ben Dempsey both forcing good saves out of the goalkeeper from volleys.

The Swans continued to push in the first half but couldn’t find a breakthrough, Dan Williams won the ball back high up the pitch, but Michael Obafemi’s first-time shot was dragged wide.

But Swansea would find their goal early in the second half, Whittaker cutting in from the right-hand side and bending a low shot into the bottom corner.

However, Charlton would restore their two-goal lead as Gavin picked up his second of the afternoon, his close-range shot cannoning off the underside of the bar and in.

Williams' low cross looked destined to give Swansea their second goal of the afternoon, but a great block from Naz Bakrini denied Yan Dhanda a simple finish.

Substitute Joel Cotterill came close as he tried his luck, but his deflected effort went agonisingly wide of the goal.

The Swans continued to push for a second goal, Lincoln Mcfayden flashing a good ball across the box late on, but the Addicks held on to their advantage to claim the spoils.

Swansea City U23s: Nico Defreitas-Hansen, Tivonge Rushesha, Jacob Jones, Azeem Abdulai (Joel Cotterill 68), Harry Jones, Brandon Cooper (captain), Lincoln Mcfayden, Dan Williams, Michael Obafemi (Sam Leverett 60), Yan Dhanda, Morgan Whittaker (Tarrelle Whittaker 78).

Unused subs: Jamie Searle, Scott Butler.

Charlton Athletic: Nathan Harvey, Tyreece Campbell, Richard Chin, Lucas Ness (Jimmy Appiah 73), Harris O’Connor (Charlie Banken 56), Naz Bkrini, Aaron Henry, Ben Dempsey (captain), Ryan Viggars (Wassim Aouachria 78), Jeremy Santos, Dylan Gavin.

Don't know much about the Charlton side other that Ryan Viggars who played for Wales u18s alongside Cotterill not so long ago, but have to be questions after that sort of result. On paper that's a much stronger side than we would expect to be putting out for u23s games, and to lose again at home...

Sounds like another defensive rickett for the first. Defence seems to be big problem even with Cooper playing. Only a few years ago Swansea u23 beat the Charlton first team (in the main) in the Johnson paints trophy.

There is one poster on here who wants half of that team in the first team.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Obafemi won't have made any new friends. Second goal is a shocker from the keeper.

Ironic that some of the prospects we've signed came here because we played with actual wingers in the development sides. Now these lads are preparing for roles they'll never play at senior level (Jacob Jones a 5'9 centre half...)

Russ seems to like short centre halves.
It must be part of our development plan,ie,allow the opposition C/F free rein to have a header without being bothered too much .

It is plum stir crazy

Stoke = 3
West Brom= 1
Blackpool =1

Plymouth = 1 in the cup
That's not record to be sniffed at for sure .

The keeper gave away the first also. A soft pass down the middle into trouble. Countless instances of losing the ball in midfield by Williams perhaps.

KO'L is a massive upgrade on Wyndham in commentary for sure.

Why isn't Webb getting games? Completely out of favour since O'Leary come in?

Because the game has changed, not very often do you see high balls going into the box any more at games at this level, unless your cardiff of course,it's about playing and trying open up the opposition through passing looking for an opening, even when we get behind full back,we play low balls into box,the 6 foot 4 cart horse centre backs have had it not many left, and it's good in my opinion, couldn't believe how some these ever made professional footballers when couldn't pass ball 5 yards.

Our defence has been pretty solid at home all season. Still needs a few tweaks away, but then most sensible people understand the concept of a "work in progress" and aren't just wailing after an away defeat for the fun of it.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Quite right Winston.
We really really should be getting who purports to support the club.
It’s why we need you so badly and value your analysis.

Nice little group developing here .

Yeah, but there's "opinions", and there's continually, tediously slagging our defence and one of its key players off despite plenty of evidence to the contrary.

I know you don't understand the difference, but more do.

How do you think Naughton is developing as a centre back ?

He's played here and there. Being away with internationals and training with the first team probably works against him a little bit. Not really enough games to go around between three u23s goalkeepers. Defreitas-Hansen has come in with big club pedigree, and dubious ability.
