M4 Relief Road on 12:20 - Jun 4 with 4682 views | felixstowe_jack | 20 years of dithering by the labour run Welsh Assembly and still no solution to the car park that is the Brynglas tunnels. Don't the greens and labour know that slow moving petrol and diesel vehicles will pump out more pollution that vehicles travelling over the new relief road. About time the useless politicians in the Assembly were voted out. Have they learnt the lessons of last week's people's vote.

That stretch of the M4 was not designed to be a motorway ffs,it doesn’t come up to EU standards, something had to be done, the pollution for the poor people living round there is terrible. Not that that matters anymore, we won’t even get their funding for this now. Bustards.

Fk EU standards. We want cart tracks like in the good old days! £44m peed up the wall in consultation and design costs. That can't be good management, can it? Almost Tory-esque in levels of waste.

The plan was to get funding from a consortium,Westminster and the European Union. Now that we re out the one billion that was promised has gone with the wind so it’s not feasible to complete the project. We should have kept the toll at the Severn Bridge for the people of wales. This problem will now get worse as the volume of traffic increases. One total Fock Up that should have been resolved with good leadership at the WAG years ago. Only takes a few people complaining about the impact on wildlife to screw up a project like this. Idiotic Plaid Cymru have been instrumental in seeing this project scrapped for the people of Wales. Well done you numpties.

I know there are certain sections that are a bit built up but surely it's cheaper than a whole new road! Some Motorways use their hard shoulders at rush hour is that something the M4 does?

Each tunnel will have to be completely shut down, so its the case of what do you do with the M4 traffic whilst it takes a year or more to demolish existing and expand?
M4 Relief Road on 14:01 - Jun 4 with 4466 views | Batterseajack | That M4 relief road already exists. Was the plans just to take out the existing round abouts and junctions? It could just be a beefed up duel carriage way rather than a full blown motorway to keep costs down.

Its all right, seeing as we are leaving the EU; those standards don't count. What we (Wales) have done with EU funding over the years is just horrible to think about. I sense a lot of it has gone on badly conceived and executed schemes designed to create jobs, and failing miserably. There's also been all the crappy local schemes like weve had in Swansea like the boulevard, the area round the rail station remodelled 3 times and the bendy bus road remodelling etc.. If they had chucked it into well though out trunk road and networked rail schemes, the jobs would appear organically. Probably heads of the valleys has been best use of EU funds, I would say. More expenditure like that should have been replicated,

That’s Plaids take on things. Preserving the health of 30,000 plus people living in close proximity of that stretch is more important according to most of the other parties. The road pollution is really bad. Except The Greens obviously, but they’re never happy.

They can’t do nothing with the tunnels. They can’t even demolish them, that’s the cause of the whole congestion problem. They are not motorway tunnels. Anyone ever been stuck the wrong side of these for over an hour in a jam on a hot summers day with screaming kids in the car and busting for a waz? No fun.

And the most deprived region in Northern Europe is............ Why not use the money for West Wales electrification and help the traffic, economy and environment? [Post edited 4 Jun 2019 15:26]

Spoken like someone who only travels down the road and back for work. Try commuting anywhere the other side of Newport and then tell yourself leave half hour earlier. It is absolutely souls destroying travelling through that area. It's an absolute disgrace that we have road networks like we do in 2019.

There are what 23 junctions or so from start of M4 in England to Wales. After that, isn't there 26 or so? The problem with the M4 in Wales is that it's disjointed, almost schizophrenic in places with far, far too many exits. That means people jump on, jump off delaying traffic... and Brynglas tunnels are an utter clusterfvck of road planning.

Whatever is spun in public Loh, this was abandoned as EU money is no longer available and no replacement funding could be secured from the UK government. The UKIP AMs, rather laughably, requested Ireland secure funds from the EU to make the scheme work as they can access the grants needed. The impact of such schemes on the environment is a genuine concern, but there are ways of alleviating such impact. The biggest single impact will be on the Welsh economy. I know of a number of companies that have made decisions to locate in the West of England rather than in Wales due to the logistical issues caused by the M4 in East Wales causing a reduction to their bottom line. The same applies to the lack of motorway after Pont Abraham.
M4 Relief Road on 17:02 - Jun 4 with 4115 views | dickythorpe | This should have been a Wales-wide project. West Wales is crying out for more lanes from Swansea down to Pembs. I totally understand the need for the idea that's been scrapped today, but too often nothing further west gets debated, we contribute greatly to the economy. Tourist business owners down here generally can't attract anyone further east than Reading as the traffic is a major factor. Devon & Cornwall gain from the " London lucre" as roads there from the capital are easier and quicker . Mates I have in London can't stand the traffic measures by Newport and then 30 mins later at Port Talbot.

Only 1% of the Gwent levels will be built on. The Welsh Assembly could easily set up an extra nature reserve and wetland twice the size as the area lost out of the road budget. Win for the environment and the motorists. The real reason seems to be that for labour to continue running the Welsh Assembly they need to bribe the greens and plaid.
