Tammy was awful yesterday, time for a rethink. 13:29 - Dec 3 with 11183 viewsTheResurrection

I've been too depressed to talk about the Swans on here, but this is what I saw.

Tammy is non existent in too many of our games, he hasn't got a hold up game and like I've said before if he's not scoring he's not doing anything really.

Yeah he's not helped by Clements safety at all costs regime and we are showing almost zero courage on the ball, it's just Monkball all over again.

So, for me he's got to try Tammy in the Siggy role of last season, out wide with a more free role and in a 433.

He blew Mesa out yesterday and we lost all continuity in the middle of the park. I'm confident had he played we'd have beaten Stoke.

Clement disgusts me

Gee Res, remember that thread you made a few months ago where you said Tammy showed us what Llorente "had been missing all last season" and how he "will take our forward play to the next level?"

In 15 minutes Tammy has showed us what we've been missing... by TheResurrection 6 Aug 2017 10:55
There is no competition between Tammy and Llorente. I have seen that for myself now.

Llorente will be second fiddle if he stays here, so he may as well be second fiddle on more money for Chelsea.

Then we can bring in another option.

Oh the joy!!

And now Tammy is "awful" and "non existent in too many of our games?" What gives? I thought he was the savior who had everything Llorente didn't and the one who, as you said, was going to take us "to the next level."

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

Yeah I remember. I had bigger hopes for Tammy and whilst he's shown himself to be a good player, too often he's not involved in games.

He's still on more goals than Llorente was at this time last season though and in a team where anti football seems to be the way we're going.

I didn't say we were dreadful in the first half. In fact I said we looked good until Leroy Fer's mistake.

We looked fairly comfortable and the better side in my opinion. The crowd was starting to get restless. That changed once we made a mistake. Similar to Arsenal away where we were good in the first half and they in fact were booed off.

No, I know I was agreeing with you... but still know we missed Mesa.

No worries.

Agree. If Mesa was playing the holding role then that would release Ki to play a more advanced role.

Whilst it wasn't that bad yesterday, there were still obvious signs of the way Clement has made us as a team.

We scored a nice goal and that gave us something to defend. I remember thinking a good few times during the first half how comfortable we were but just as many times thinking we could be more willing to play as well.

Just be there to take a pass in a tight situation, have the skill and touch to be able to cope with it and have the freedom to make room and get it back. The fine touch close control quick passing game we don't even attempt. We close down half heatedly and our balance is all wrong. There was one time yesterday due to us being so narrow Clucas had drifted over to the right and when the ball came back Olsson literally had the whole left side to himself with not a Swans player in shouting distance from him. Where are our units, partnerships, cover for the units when moves break down. We used to play a system where players were encouraged to break from their roles and others would slot across and cover, total footbal we ain't.

At least Mesa is the closest thing we've got to good one touch, quick control continuity and with the incisive speed of his passing and great touch we have looked like being able to get on the front foot with him dictating the tempo at the spring of our attacks.

He played well Iin his two games, he didn't put a foot wrong against Chelsea and there was no reason whatsoever to bomb him out against Stoke, regardless of how big their team is. Mesa could've had a field day against cloggers like that.

I just can't get my head around his thinking in not even being in the squad. WTF is going on??

There has to be something' very personal going in between Mesa and Clement. No other explanation.

Not playing to his strengths.

Since Bony left the times we have played to a strikers strengths was Shelvey to gomis until Shelvey got worked out by teams and sigurdsson to llorente in the air.

Tammy looks a better player facing the opposition rather than with his back to them, both he and bony need supporting players with pace and width and midfielders to run past bony.

Not too clever was he but he deserves another chance up front with Bony next week against West Brom.

Massive game so team selection is critical for PC.

Up front and at the back picks itself with LF,KN,AM,VDH,MO Tammy and Bony up top

Middle of the park is the question what 4 does he play in there????

Whats your 4 guys????

It happened to be Fer this time, but the way we are at the moment it could be any of our midfielders who neither have the guts are ability to try and go forward. Instead of trying to create a forward pass or movement they either play back or pass back to our defence who have to bear the burden. The exception to this being Mesa who does make efforts to go forward and is not afraid to tackle, but for reasons best known to Clement rarely gets selected.

Yes.

I guess that's what results when a squad lacks attacking midfielders and adopts a defensive approach to each game.

Some good points raised here, and I agree about Tammy. Been saying all season that while he’s a good goalscorer, there’s not a huge amount else in his game at the moment.

Biggest problem for me yesterday was how we played in the second half. Stoke were happy to sit back knowing we’d never break them down, and Clement’s only tactic was to lump the ball up to an ever-increasing number of strikers. The fullbacks, Olsson in particular, tried to push on but they had no support whatsoever most of the time, no winger or attacking midfielder to interplay with, no quick one-twos to create space around the box, just left on their own to lump it in the mixer from however far up the field they managed to get. That may have worked last season when we had a genuinely top class attacker of the ball in the air, not so much this year.

A more astute manager might have brought Mesa on to dictate play from midfield, some wingers to stretch the play and get in behind them, but Clement just doesn’t have that attacking nous, it’s like it’s completely alien to him. And before anyone says that we don’t have any decent wingers, I totally agree that it’s criminal we’re left with Dyer and Routledge as our best options there, but that’s down to Clement spunking away all the summer transfer kitty on central midfielders instead of getting a proper replacement for Gylfi.

While I’m on the subject, Bony’s best feature is how good he is at holding the ball up to feet with his back to goal. His goal came from exactly that but I don’t recall us doing that and getting anyone running off him for the rest of the game.

So the 4 other players to start for you are

Dyer, Carroll, Ki and Mesa in a 4-3-3

So no Fer, Clueles, Ayew, or Sanchez?

PC seems to fancy Ayew, always plays him, can't see him picking mesa either?

Jon De Gus was the dogs bollocks of a player for the Swans.

Box to box, could pass the ball for fun and scored important goals, exactly what we could do with now.

Jon jo Shelvy, and Joe Allan too?

Yeah, but he didn't get stuck in like...

Anyone with a brain realises what part JdG played in the most entertaining and successful Swansea side in history. Says a lot about Swans fans that a goodly percentage of them treated him with suspicion and disdain.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

"The most entertaining and successful Swans team in history" i beg to differ

In the Premier league era yes, but Toshacks Swans were arguably as successful and and were entertaining too.

Curtis, Robbie and Leighton James Latchford, Tommy Craig, Jeremy Charles, Wyndham, Jimmy Hadz, Ante Rek, Dave Stewart, Speedy, Marustik etc etc ?????

Toshack's Swans never won a major trophy and were relegated after just two seasons.

As admirable as the achievements of that side were, they have been eclipsed.

Fair point no premier league money around then and the club could not back Tosh to progress the team.

Some fantastic players then though, majority were local too.

Curtis, Robbie, Leighton, Charlo, Speedy, Marustick, Dudley Huw Lake

Latchford, Jimmy Haz, Ante Rek, Tommy Craig, Josh Mahony, Dave Stewart

A few of them if they were playing today would be earning £100 plus a week

Didn’t see the game but seen the comments. Even with those comments based on what we’ve got ....

Tammy and dyer wide; Mesa ki and Clucas central.
