Is there any subject that doesn’t get hijacked for political and or point scoring?

What a pitiful society we live in.

I want a mate like Flashberryjacks, who wears a Barnsley jersey with "Swans are my second team" on the back.

I didn't imply everyone who wears a red poppy thinks like that Flash.

I choose to wear a red poppy myself.

I'm talking about the hypocrisy of people that do (and many do) being the ones that then have a go about white poppies.

I do find the increasing politicisation of the poppy distasteful I have to say.

I try not to think about politics when it comes to remembrance day, no matter if anyone one agrees or disagrees with a particular war or conflict, all political differences should be put aside on this day that we remember the brave people that have died whilst serving their country.

In my humble opinion, the wearing of the White poppy is making either a political or make some form of moral statement, they should save it for another day, one bloody a day a year, that shouldn't to much to ask for those that have fallen.

I don't think wearing a white Poppy is distasteful .......... I think it just plain and utter bloody disrespectful.

Jesus Christ.

If you're offended by what colour pretend-flowers people wear then you need to get out more.

I've never worn a poppy of any colour in my life and I'll be fùcked if anyone thinks they can lay any guilt trips on me.

Both my grandfathers fought at Ypres, one got a chunk out of his arm from a German sniper as he lay on the beach with no cover. Four inches to the left and it would have been his skull.

I have every sympathy for cosncripts,. I just don't feel that I need to show the rest of the world.

Hats off to Hans though, Daf, that was a Hell of a shot! Ypres has to be the best part of fifty miles from the coast.

Because the PPU has been hijacked by the same debased creatures who have hijacked the Labour Party. Take a look for yourself who writes the barely-literate blogs, organises the marches and regional branches for Stop the War or, if you can stomach it, the hand-wringing 'luvvies' behind No Glory and it will take you about a millisecond to realise it's just an SWP/Momentum front.

A f'ckin' freakshow!

I will not wear a poppy as I'm deeply uncomfortable with how the right have hijacked it for their own ends.

Then the Far Right have won then, The Poppy is for one thing only and that`s to raise money to help servicemen that are in difficulties it is not a political symbol , get your money in the tin now!!

I agree with you but there's one thing I also agree with in the bit from the white poppy lot that Clase posted.

Ex servicemen should not have to rely on charity for many things.

Some of the things funded by the British Legion eg rehabilitation care for wounded troops should be funded by the government.

If they can afford to send these young men and women to war, they should look after them when they return broken. If they cant afford that, don't send them. We're hardly fighting wars of survival any more. We're fighting wars of choice.

Goes without saying.

Laughably enough it does, Clase.

Ooh! look! Old Karl himself has come back for the day. Perhaps he's come to front this "education and campaigning work" the white poppies pay for, as you quoted from their site?

Use your heads, boys and girls, give these nutters a wide, wide berth. This November if you've got a few bob spare give it to the Legion and honour the memory of those who have gone before, who haven't been as lucky as you or I, and to help throw a protective arm around those still with us.

Yeah it always strikes me as odd when certain maladjusted individuals proclaim that the poppy is somehow a symbol of the far right, when in reality it remembers and honours millions of individuals who risked and gave their lives to fight the most powerful and threatening far right regime this world has seen.

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

These twàts need to realise without the courageous list behind the red poppy there’d be no choice of a white version.

Fuçking idiots.

I will be wearing a British legion poppy as I have every year including through the 70s and 80s when it was less fashionable.
John major deserves great for restoration of the silence on the 11th as opposed to just remembrance Sunday.

However, I must also say as a student of the great war, that if in 1914 more people across Europe had had the courage to conscientiously object, there would be no need for a red Poppy.

Nobody really wanted war in 1914, and if the Democratically elected socialist government in Germany had held sway over the military commanders and the aristocracy, there would have been no war.

There's a lot of ifs in there, Sherpa. As a student of The Great War you may well have been cognisant of the fact that yesterday marked the anniversary of an event that made the war a case of 'when' not 'if.' 18th October 1883 saw the final revision of the Triple Alliance, an act of myopic political wishful thinking when combined with Balkan volatility ensured that what had been intended as a deterrent acted as an accelerant of acetonic potency.

Governments will always let those down whose lives they throw away but you are right the Government should pay put unfortunately they are made up of politicians who rarely tell the truth. Sold the poppy when I was young and donate every year I don`t look at the reasons for the conflicts they are so often wrapped up in lies all I see are young men and women who need help politics should never come in to it.

I have never worn a poppy. This is nothing to do with any political point, or disrespect for anyone. The sole reason why I have not is that I would rather my donation, of which I do make annually to numerous collectors, go as a full donation, and not seen as a token purchase.

I have taken abuse from people for not wearing them, but I don't advertise openly what causes I support/donate to in any way for any cause.

Of the two cases, my money goes to the red poppy collectors, mainly because on the surface they tend to actually look to aid people over the money being mainly used for educational purposes.
