Jamie Allen signs for Burton on 08:32 - Sep 1 by TalkingSutty | The jury is still out on this Summers recruitment it's too early to judge them. Really happy about signing the Centre back yesterday, it's been a weakness since Lancashire was starting every week and Eastham was welded to the subs bench. My biggest disappointment has been the negative vibes coming out of the Club pre-season from the manager, relating to the condition of quite a few of the players, consequently we are now blighted with injuries. You can understand the managers frustration. Other players are or have been ill so in a nutshell the start to this season has been a absolute shambles. The trip to Tenerife needs looking at, we always seem to come back with 2 or 3 long term injuries. Hopefully things are starting to clear up off the field and we can start giving ourselves a chance. |
Don't think its the trip itself, just too much intensity too soon for some players, and that's despite us having a fitness coach in Gibbons who's meant to be a specialist - it ain't working Back to topic - my last abiding memory of Jamie: giving Hendo some grief in full view of the Pearl St for his lazy pass which f*cked up an early corner. Well done, lad

Is the medical/ physio side of things up to scratch, numbers wise? I am assuming it is but it makes you wonder, players seem to take an eternity to recover from injuries.
Jamie Allen signs for Burton on 08:59 - Sep 1 with 3254 views | sweetcorn | Stayed relatively quiet this year due to our shite start and not wanting to appear negative.. But this has pissed me off.. what is it with us and selling players last minute.. 2/3 or our brilliant midfield from last season has now been dismantled with very little replacements made. This season is draining already. Think it's going to be a long hard one.

Jamie Allen signs for Burton on 05:16 - Sep 1 by Daleaholic | Good business from the club. You look at the replies on this thread and everyone is saying the same... He hasn't progressed as most would expect. In my personal opinion, the quality of the team has improved and left Allen behind. Allen burst onto the scene in League 2 and looked an incredible prospect but as of late, he's just not been that same player. Rathbone, Camps, Cannon, Morley, Adshead... They're the future now. Good Luck Jamie and hopefully we'll be seeing you in the not too distant future! |
I have to agree with Daleaholic, I think in terms of midfield players we have abundance and good quality as well, in Rathbone, Camps (who I think is a better attacking midfielder), Morley, Adshead, Keane, Cannon and with the new loan signing of Michael Jordan Williams who can operate in central midfield or in central defence (I would not be surprised if he is okay, then we will an effort to sign him in January), then we have Inman and our other Jordan Williams on the wing. People also forget that if rumours are correct Allen was unhappy and causing issues in the dressing room. So it may be the best solution for all concerned and I am sad to see Allen go, because he was good an product of our excellent youth system, but it was going to happen sometime, and I would rather now, when we have quality in midfield, rather then a lack of talent in midfield. Besides that he may return in the future if it does not work out for him at Burton or in the championship.

Expect our medical people will have been busy and by rights should've brought in a specialist in management of disease to look at what's been happening and potential sources (can i be the first to use 'epidemiologist' on a football forum?) Oh, and making sure the physios change gloves/wash hands between treating players

Jamie Allen signs for Burton on 00:27 - Sep 1 by AtThePeake | Try my best these days to think about the pragmatism that is involved in our transfer dealings and be understanding of why we let certain players go but this one has annoyed me a bit. Where has the money for Scott Hogan gone? Because that kind of money in reserve should've allowed us to reject any bids for first team players that weren't ridiculously high, which I don't expect Burton Albion's offer was. I understand the Hogan money was set to go on ground improvements but what improvements have their been so far? The new 'sound system' which isn't even available to be used and a lick of paint on a couple of walls are the only differences I have noticed at the ground so far. Had we sold Allen because we felt the funds brought in could be better re-invested in the first team squad then fair enough - but instead we have brought in two loanees who we will have to say goodbye to come the end of the season if they're any good, although after some of the long-term loans we brought in last season (Odelusi, Redshaw, Taylor) I don't hold out much hope. All feels a bit... uninspiring. [Post edited 1 Sep 2017 0:29]

Surprised to wake up to this news and sad to see Jamie go - he's a good L1 player who has served the club well and is one of our own. As many on here have already said though his development has plateaued over the last 18 months. Not annoyed or "uninspired" about this - he's not a guaranteed first choice midfielder, he was in the last year of his contract and was likely to leave for nothing in the summer, he has the chance to play at a higher level (albeit maybe only this season) and no doubt he has got a substantial pay increase. Maybe we could have gone some way to meeting his increased wages but I think a change of environment is just what Jamie needs to get his career back on track and on an upward trajectory again. Good luck Jamie.

Jamie Allen signs for Burton on 09:24 - Sep 1 with 3131 views | KenBoon | I can understand why Burton fans aren't too delighted. They're up against it and really need to sign Championship players who are ready to go now. If we've reverted to type (300k) then in the current transfer fee climate would probably command a bigger fee at tribunal than we'd normally negotiate. This "undisclosed fee" nonsense needs to be stopped. There's no legitimate reason for transfer fees not to be released. All transfer fees, add-ons and agent fees should be published as soon as they're available.

Which players came back from Tenerife with long-term injuries?

Is he injured? Nothing official has been said - he might be one of the ill ones? It would be nice if someone asked whilst interviewing Keith?

Jamie Allen signs for Burton on 11:22 - Sep 1 with 2648 views | NR_Dale | Might be wrong here, but wasn't Allen vice captain of the club?? (hendo being club captain) if so that role needs filling by hilly. Think it's a good deal for both parties in my view and good luck to Jamie in the future. The better he does for burton and in the future the more dale benefits.

Jamie Allen signs for Burton on 07:05 - Sep 1 by ColDale | Don't want to sound like I'm putting the boot into Allen, because I'm not. He's been great for us, and will leave us with nothing but fond memories. In terms of his importance to the club, I reckon 95% of fans would have (in no particular order) Hendo, Done, Davies, Rathbone, Camps, Raff and Bunney all above him, so we've got a fee of around £500,000 plus add ons for someone who is at best our 8th most important player. For me, he's not kicked on as a player. and maybe it's a size thing, but I still see him as being a young player with potential, whilst someone like Camps has gone that step further and developed into a fully fledged first team player. I think Allen will benefit from the move as much as anyone. There will be a need to raise his game going into new surroundings and of course a division higher, and that might not have been possible at Spotland. You can get too comfortable at times. If I was Hilly, I'd be sitting Andy Cannon down for a long chat and tell him he's got a real opportunity now to change from being a bit part player to a week in week out first team player, whilst instilling that if he doesn't grasp that opportunity, we've got the likes of Morley, Williams x 2 and Adshead waiting in the wings. |
Perfectly put, Col, and I've surprised myself by agreeing that there are 7 players ahead of him in terms of importance to the team. I do wonder about Hill's comments over the past couple of weeks though. Clearly something has been upsetting him, some sort of 'agenda'. Whether that was just the freak illness that's infiltrated the club or something more wasn't ever really made clear. Hill did go on record though in saying it would all be sorted this week, which strongly implies that it was a transfer matter, presumably one or more players wanting out. From what we've seen of Jamie I highly doubt he's the kind of player to deliberately cause trouble amongst the squad if he wanted to leave (although maybe his agent might be), but I do wonder if last night's news might leave Hill feeling a bit refreshed and relieved. His comment's in today's interview revealing that this has been going on since June would support this view. [Post edited 1 Sep 2017 12:27]

Bunney picked up a bad injury and Hill stated he was looking at signing another keeper due to Moores injuriy. If i'm not mistaken we have also picked up other bad injuries on previous trips. Jeez, i'm trying to get the pre- season tour of Scotland sorted and your throwing water on the fire!!☺ [Post edited 1 Sep 2017 12:49]

Jamie Allen signs for Burton on 12:45 - Sep 1 with 2338 views | Dickydaler | I'll echo everyone's best wishes to Jamie for the future. He has been a fantastic player for the Dale, and as many have said, one of our own. I very rarely saw him have a bad game and I think we will miss him in midfield, especially for the way he kept the ball and broke up the play. I hope we get the chance to thank him for his incredible service to the club sometime in the near future. Just as an aside, anyone know what has happened to Calvin Andrew? I rate him quite highly and think, with his defensive abilities at set pieces and the way he can hold the ball up at the front, he is above Davies in my book.

Not at all, but I think you're making more of it than is actually the case. We pick up more of our injuries in training during the week than at Tenerife or during matches, it seems to me.

Statistically, that'd be very unlikely to be anything but true, given the length of time spent in training during the course of the season But I'd still question (and I may well be wrong, of course) the intensity of our pre-season, whilst fully appreciating the need to get players up to speed and that our game is based upon high-tempo pressing. The point I made a couple of weeks back about different players having different physiques which require variable training to bring them to their peak will, I'm sure, be taken into account by our specialist fitness coach I'm more interested in how we start seasons, and we almost invariably seem to get off on the wrong foot, hampered by early injuries and breakdowns. This happens to other teams of course, but not every bloody season, as it seems to do with us. So, it's a case of what works best, and what we do doesn't seem to be having the right effect, plus it's tended to have us running out of steam at crucial stages of the season. Something needs changing.
