Ten months on since Keith Hill announced the football club were trying to buy Spotland stadium. Does anyone know if we are any closer to completing the sale?

I've no real memory of Hornets ever using the pitch covers. Could it be that in the instance he refers to they had been left in place for a Football match that actually didn't take place the previous day ? I'm 99% sure that Hornets v Saints game he refers to still failed to beat the weather In spite of the pitch being covered. If I'm right the usual shaded bit down the front of the main stand was still frozen although the rest of the pitch was playable.
One instance in God knows how many years hardly constitutes a trend does it ?
I still think it's a poor do that the Town's two professional sports team can't share the ground on a more amicable basis. I also think the new Co-op Hornets is still being tarred with the old Hornets brush. |
Under the proposal for the football club to take ownership of the ground Hornets are being offered a long term lease, on a lower rent. You cannot get more amicable than that!
I would agree that the new Hornets appear to be better run and more financially stable. I suppose many Dale supporters are bitter about the illegal transfer of shares to the RFU and have a perception that Hornets have not/are not 'paying their way'. I suppose yours and Mr Mallinson's comments do not help in that regard as you both seem to believe that Hornets are currently hard done by and Dale or out to shaft Hornets.
Regarding the pitch covers. Even many Dale supporters don't see them being used; they are taken off well before most supporters go through the turnstiles. I would be amazed if use of the pitch covers has not enables at least one Hornet's game to take place over the past few years. [Post edited 21 Jun 2015 13:00]

This was 2013 also. Both teams played after the pitch was covered. Therefore both teams benefitted, as it should be.
Whether or not the football club have a fixture is pretty irrelevant as the job of the groundstaff is to get games on for any match due to be played on the pitch. Sometimes the weather wins, but if the covers were used it then both clubs are in effect "using" them, as is also indicated in the tweet below:

Anyone with a brain can see that any work on the pitch, including covering of it, benefits all users of the pitch for the reasons outlined above, cutting down on postponements , and making it more playable on. Even Rugby players would rather a level decent service to run on, for reducing risk of injury etc. |  |

It may well have been, but Hornets have made use of the pitch covers. If nothing else, I'll usually do things to death.

At a tangent to this thread, but related, is the amount of financial loss that Rochdale Borough Council have managed to accrue over a number of years in this and other related "investments" and continues to accrue whilst situations like this are left unresolved.
I say that against recent press coverage of mismanagement, cover-up and scandal that has dogged the town of Rochdale over the last 10 years. I can't think of one positive headline that has appeared.
Whatever RAFC or Hornets have to lose by the Stadium Co going into some form of administration because of a burdening and unmanageable debt that is their private money; the Council bit however is public money, subject to central government and (national) media scrutiny.
You would have thought that those on the Council responsible would be keen to get what is essentially a long term liability off their balance sheet and some real money into the coffers at a time where money is tight in the town.
Or alternatively, find a way to maximise the value of that investment for the good of the town.
It makes you think how many other holes the Council balance sheet will have in it once uncovered and that reticence to solve might be because of having to make that admittance to the relevant places. [Post edited 21 Jun 2015 21:19]
