Col Donaldson 19:58 - Mar 15 with 9417 views | Dougal_RBlock | Can anyone tell me what's happened to this kid? When we bought him I remember it being as a bit of a coup for the club as he was rated really highly up in Scotland. Is he injured? With our defence being as bad as it is, I'm surprised that he hasn't got near the 1st team squad.
Col Donaldson on 20:04 - Mar 15 with 6452 views | bosh67 | He should be but expect he will be in the first team thoughts next season. He's only 19 and apparenlty gets injured because he's still growing. 6 foot 2 last year and over 6 foot 3 this year. I think his time is coming.

Col Donaldson on 21:01 - Mar 15 with 6258 views | eghamranger | Robinson has kept Paul Dixon out of the Huddesfield team this season and had had a really good season. Paul Dixon is rated up there and is the Scotland left back, he couldn't get in the team and to keep his place went 2 weeks ago to Dundee Utd on loan, he played today in the Scottish cup final, if we are in the championship next year, I think Robinson will be our left back. Like Yun, but he has been hot and cold and be good if they have competition for the left back role

I saw him on his debut last year against Crysal Palace (might be wrong) and he looked shaky but he managed to break into Redknapp's first-team squad for Barnsley towards the back end of last year - so perhaps I'm wrong. I actually felt that despite Donaldson have some nervy performances and then turning it around, Jamie Sendles-White was actually one of our most promising defenders, but he kept picking up injuries last year. Donaldson only has a year left on his deal, I'd be amazed if he was one of our CBs by the time an extension comes around. He was offered to Redknapp and he took a punt, a very talented player but maybe not with QPR. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Haven't seen Robinson so not commenting on how he is doing but Dixon was about 3rd choice when he got a couple of games for Scotland and he's nowhere near the squad atm, one paced solid defender and I would hope Robinson is a better prospect tbh. To be fair Donaldson was a surprise when he got his move and he'd only played for Livingston in the second tier about 20 games. Knowing Harry the fact he had a trial at Man Utd and was at a club where several good youngsters have come through will have been the extent of his scouting! Hopefully he'll come good as he's still young, if what bosh is saying is right and he's still growing its usually the case that they grow up first and then fill out when they've reached full height.

You don't mean Raheem Sterling is holding off signing a new contract at Liverpool, because he's waiting to come back to QPR as long as we offer 10k per week :-)

Col Donaldson on 10:17 - Mar 16 with 5739 views | rsonist | Thing is, we've been so starved of youth players coming through for so long that the discourse is completely blown out of proportion now. At other clubs youth player traffic will come and go without fanfare or hype (unless in exceptional circumstances) and there is a general understanding that most kids will pass through the system without making the first team, and in doing so it is not immediately an indictment of the club philosophy. It's only gotten worse still since the club finally cottoned on that it was the only feelgood ratings winner they had left, although Furlong's roasting on the weekend probably puts the tin hat on even that for a while.

Unless we blood young players we'll never know how many assets we have on our books. I have no problem with people being excited by Donaldson, Robinson, Furlong, Doughty et al.
Col Donaldson on 12:38 - Mar 16 with 5591 views | karl | I see Southampton have signed up the person responsible for Falkirks youth set up (they have produced a few good young players and Swansea have got at least 2 of them) I never heard he went there but apparently Saints have got him from Huddersfield. I'll say it again, John Park from Celtic should be our target

I hope this is not the end of developing our youngsters into the first team. The problem is nobody at the club insisted that it should be done, but properly during Hughes' or Redknapp's time as managers. To do it right young developing players should be on the bench and introduced progressively, starting at non-critical points in games. Unfortunately because of the previous lack of player development we have had no choice, but to throw our youngsters in at the deep end. Darnall's performances haven't been that bad and I hope it hasn't put him off, but he needs support from competent senior players which SWP isn't. I fear we may need to do that sort of thing more often and hope the young players involved learn from it in a positive way and the supporters realise that they need to make allowances for the situation brought about by the previous period of incompetent management at every level.

Watching Furlong on tv he just wasn't close enough to his man, Dunne or Hill playing alongside him would likely have helped too, coaching during the game is vital

It's the way we are set up, and have been for a long time, with our full backs very narrow. It makes sense when you have Dunne, Hill or Rio playing at CB because they haven't got the legs to plat at this level so need the cover. On Saturday we had Ned and Caulker so there was no need for it but, like I say, we've been set up that way for a while now. Palace is probably the worst team to do it against because they play with proper wingers who stay wide and go down the line, so every time they got the ball not only did they have space but they were also moving positively by the time the FBs got to them. You need to be tight to them and not let them turn and face you.

I saw him a month or two back and he's still stick thin and at times a little uncoordinated - perhaps as a result of still growing as suggested elsewhere. Physically got a lot to do before he could compete for a first team place. That said, I watched Harriman recently and he's still a skinny little fella. Decent player - league 1, possibly championship - but at his height (& being average pace) he really needs to put on a few pounds.

Oh yeah! In his 30odd minutes on the pitch he was one of our better midfielders, far better than the tw@t who was already showered an ready for the bus while Doughty ran his socks off. BUT he hasn't been since THEN ! ( I think )
