£7m for De Guzman would be another good signing, better value than Fer in my opinion.

Green
Onouha Ferdinand Caulker
Isla. Traore
De Guzman Mutch Barton
Austin Remy

Not a bad potential line up.

Isnt he a similar singing to Mutch though. In the respect that he isnt a holding player like Carlos Sanchez or the French Bloke from Guinegamp, but also isnt a Morrison type player who can create something from nothing.

Dont get me wrong he is a class player but for 7 million i think that it is quite a lot when Diame is there for 3.5. I would prefer a solid Defensive midfielder with lots of pace, like Sanchez from Columbia and then a luxury player like Morrison(not now though) or Adel(going though) who can try and do something special in the final 3rd. We cant have Austin being isolated up front or Remy pace being wasted if he has nothing to chase.

I couldn't disagree more.

Your essentially saying that instead of having a balanced team you want to set up with a single play-maker in midfield surrounded by defensive midfielders to protect the defense. I think that would make us very predictable. The fact you refer to them as luxury players should be your clue, do you think we can afford luxuries within our squad? Fulham had plenty of luxury players last season like Berbatov, Ruiz and our very own Adel, how did that work out for them?

I'd much rather have 3 hard working midfielders who could contribute to both attacking and defensive phases. It's harder to stop a team than an individual. Fer and De Guzman would be great additions to our midfield as would the French Bloke from Guinegamp.

Would be a lovely signing. Consistent performer in this league, scores goals, creates goals, links play, excellent dead ball delivery too. Can go missing or be bullied out of games sometimes though and isn't much of a classic tackler - but then if we keep possession better then we shouldn't have to be winning it back all the time either.

At 26 years of age it's a nice price in this market too.

This would be a great signing. He is an all round midfielder. Used by holland to hold but can be an attacking midfielder also (remember the days when a midfielder could do both jobs!!!). Better option than fer for me. If it happens then it's swansea's loss and our gain. Please let it be true.

I just find it hard to believe that Swansea wouldn't find the extra 2 mill to keep him.

Thank fcuk it's not my money, but 7 mill seems really not too bad.

I suppose it's the difference between being ruthless with your budget versus trying to be just a bit more sensible compared to recent times.

Looks like Swansea are moving on a lot of the Laudrup era players that he knew from his time in Spain; Michu, Chico Flores, Jose Canas and Pozuelo all going or gone so this would seem to fit in with that.

Brilliant signing if it comes off.

according to my West Ham mate, Diame is a bit hit and miss.

One good game then half a dozen poor performances and so it goes on....according to him

captains fantastic

Not sure where this 'love' for De Guzman comes from. If you want a player who takes a very good free kick, is ok at short passing but is lightweight, can't/doesn't tackle, won't track back and finds it difficult to break out of a jog then he's your man ! Also inconsistent and doesn't impose himself on a game. For what he contributes to a team I.e. set pieces, he does not warrant a place in the team imo. Ok squad/bench player.

cant disagree that he would be a very good signing

still need a physical presence in the middle third, can see us being swept away by the pace and power other teams have.

diame fits the bill in every way.

good to see us being linked with real quality rather than the the usual suspects which results in me suffering from 28 weeks later type rage.

Wife is a Swansea fan so I've seen enough of him over the last 2 seasons to know he's ok but nothing special like loads on here seem to think. I personally just think a lot of fans could well be disappointed ? Also, in the world cup he started the 1st game then got subbed then dropped as the tournament went on as Dutch tactics appeared to need more energy/physical presence - that's not his game.

Exactly,he's nothing like Fer but is a decent creative player all the same.
I'd definitely take him as he would give us something we lack but we'd still need a defensive midfielder with pace.

That chimes in with my (admittedly vague) feeling. He's never made that much impression on me. I saw him playing during the World Cup and thought 'oh, that's that bloke from Swansea'.

Do you know what his position is normally? Is he one of the three in a 4-2-3-1?

On a side note I see Laudrup has become manager of Lekhwiya in Qatar, and Chico Flores has just gone over there to join him.

What options do we have then. He's clearly available, Dutch international with 2 years previous experience in PL and reasonably successful at that. 5m for Mutch so 7m for de Guzman is a good deal. I've been impressed with him at Swansea and he can control possession better than what we have and surely if it's an improvement then it would be a positive signing.

We aren't holland though and his replacement was wijnauldum and I'm sure psv won't sell for 7 m. We haven't got the pick of talent so although he could disappoint, like any signing, I believe he is worth a go and not too much a risk, wage dependant.

Maybe we don't have any choice. Maybe he's a really good player. I was just giving my impression (not from a position of any great knowledge).

Fair point that we might sometimes also need a little more steel as well (Diame isn't the player for this either although he is generally more powerful and dynamic when on form).

But OTOH I can't see any way in which this signing still wouldn't improve the side greatly. De Guzman is an intelligent and calm passer of the ball who keeps the play ticking and links defence to attack (which is something we still struggle with), and he's been central to what Swansea have been about these last few years in my view. If we're going to play with wing-backs it's important to have players who can distribute the play to that effect rather than just have Dunne lumping it into the channels like yesterday.

Granero mk2 I suppose, hopefully for better than for worse.
