What are your thoughts on Garry's starting lineup and subs tonight? Questionable I would say...

Why does there always have to be someone to blame?

We could have won the game, second goal was so lucky. We kept that £35 million pound striker quiet for two games, he scored because of a lucky deflection. Third insignificant and undeserved.

I cannot be more proud of the lads tonight 100% effort and commitment from all of them.

Despite what the resident Danes are spouting about how this game would have gone under Laudrup, I'll tell you how it would have gone shall I?? A 4-0 drubbing because the mentality was all wrong under ML for a long time.

People having a pop at Monk have a word with yourselves FFS!

We've not had one bad performance yet. The results will come and take care of themselves. The only reason subs are being called into question is because we lost. Nothing wrong with the subs, they all added something to the gave.

The last 10 minutes they gave everything.

Find something worthy of moaning at... Pathetic!

Great post.

I couldn't give a shit about the subs he brought on.He's turned us round as a team and if it wasn't for sloppy finishing we'd be calling him the next Messiah this evening. The side he picked proved more than capable of winning the game.We murdered them ffs. It's not the night to be criticizing anyone, we were too good for that.

It looked like Emnes was tiring, but agree that he was doing a great job. Tayls certainly did no better. Emnes has been far better than some of our summer signings, but for some reason people don't see it. Weird. I think he'll be a very useful addition during our run in.

I've been gladly proven wrong by his performances. I thougt he wouldn't be up to it.

Garry's decisions tonight on 20:30 - Feb 27 by Brynmill_Jack

The problems there stem from Michael "small squad" Laudrup. And we can't play our best side, Michu is still injured

ML let us down badly in the summer, or the board and him together through lack of communication or whatever. For a PL side to have the strike force that we have is pathetic.

Bony has come on leaps and bounds, after him though it really is poor. Poor old Vasquez has copped some stick but we should have far more strength in depth, if we did we would have gone through.

Great post. Spot on.

So a post that starts why does there always have to be someone to blame

Goes on to start blaming Laudrup for the way he may have played it even though he got us as far as we went in both the FA Cup and Europa (and qualified us for this in the first place)

And you say Great post. Spot on!!!!!!!!!!!! - very balanced

Perhaps it should have started saying why do you have to blame anyone it does not suit my agenda to blame.

I agree he did weaken the team, but i think he was trying to rest some of the players to Palace game. So should you go all in and win and have a really tough game against Palace? or should you try and rest some players and hope its works out?

He's gone mate and rightly so.... Time to move on

The only reason I mentioned it was one of Plasticman's posts straight onto the offensive about why it might have been a different result under ML because he taught the players to conserve energy or some b@llocks.

Emness played well, Tiendalli not so well. We were undone by a piece of good Napoli fortune tonight so I'm not sure if picking the bones over selections and subs which the schedule we've had. We deserved to win the tie and pre Monk who would have said we 'd have regained the form of the last 6 or so games? We've been massively impressive against every side we've played, and to dominate a top 3 Italian side to boot. Glass three quarters full here

Good post

For me only mistake was when Taylor came on we seemed to be deeper. We invited them onto us imo. You can't do that with their quality.
Otherwise I can't say anything other than positives. Another great performance against a quality side.
I did say when Dyer came on that Rangel should too. They play so well together but Math and Dwight never have "jellied" properly. That's just nit picking though.
All we have to worry about is the league and we should be brimming with confidence now, we did ourselves proud.

A special mention for Notrac in the absurd post category, or was he being ironic? Leon is injured, Rangel probably needed a rest and Emnes will only have benefited from game time.
I generally agree we have over rotated, but not tonight. The only player I wouldn't have started was Tiendalli, because I'm not keen on him!!
Thought Jdg did very well though and maybe Pablo should've come off, not Jdg. Again though, that's nit picking.
I'm just looking forward to Sunday now, let's show ince what's what eh!!

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Time for me to move on responding to your comment on Laudrup - run that by me again.

Sorry are you complaining you cannot slag him off in peace?

If you were following the thread I would say Plasticman made a pretty balanced response to points made by another poster. So why you call it b@llocks I don't know.

I do know someone started having a go at Laudrup just before their first goal (probably spoiled the Kama). So perhaps you should have a word with them and the others that could not wait to have a go. But as long as they do I will be here to redress the balance as I would with any other human being I thought was being treated like sh1t. Even Pabs (that outstanding GM player - lol) has repeatedly pointed out he has played in that position in the past. Probs doesn't like the revisionist crap either.

So get used to it or get the big y'n to ban me so you can all live in peace in your alternate reality. Or better still cut the jibes and move on and get behind our team in the PL. Concentrate on the positives and stop the point scoring which smacks of insecurity.

Garry's decisions tonight on 20:25 - Feb 27 by Natterjack

I thought Monk got all of his decisions right tonight. Their 2nd goal was pure bad luck and from then on in it was a case of us pushing for the winner - 3rd goal was inevitable one way or another, sadly it went against us.

Tiendalli was poor 1st half, but I thought he improved as the game went on (and that is coming from one of his biggest critics). Superb late header that would've gone in 2ft either side of where it went.

Bony was unplayable when we were dictating the game. I bet Pullis was shitting himself in the studio!

Heroic display by all - now feet up and rest for Sunday

Seriously mate, their 2nd goal is bad luck AFTER Davies ball watches and lets the guy run off him. Then he's chasing back and the ricochet, off an out of position Davies, falls to Higuain.

All that happens after we go defensive from 70 odd mins. Seriously, when has our defence ever been able to defend for that long?

The sad thing is there was nothing in them and we have p!ssed on our chips big style!

In the context of the two legged tie I thought the post that I stated 'great post', I thought was a great post, from the manager to the players, we were superb. Take a look at Chris Wathan's article on Wales on Line and it will fill you with pride as to how magnificently we performed.

For me football, at times is over analysed. In a tie like this, pure and simple we didn't take our chances, I'm not going to blame the players or Monk for missing those chances.

What I will do in the wider context, outside of the two legged tie, is blame Laudrup or the board or the two together for leaving us so short up front.

I'd rather leave the blame firmly at Laudrup's door as he fuc*ed off practically all last summer on his hols and as a supporter on here said so at the time. But in trying to be balanced I'll say they are all to blame.

I know Liverpool's history etc, but Liverpool didn't finish a huge amount of points ahead of us last season. Liverpool will have always have far more money etc than us, but should it be to the extent of starting the season with Suarez, Sturridge, Aspas and Borini.

We had Bony and Vazquez. With Garry Monk at the helm I feel confident that we'll have far better communication with the board, someone who will be working for the club all summer and we will have the strength in depth up front that we need and deserve.

Selection was 10 our of 11... Tiendalli being the error.

Emnes had a stormer out wide, an inspired selection... thought the holding two controlled the game... had Bony put that chance away we'd all be off to Frankfurt for bangers and wheat beer.

Emnes was an inspired selection and I guess he came off because he ran out of steam. Tiendalli slipped up once in defence, but added more to the attack than Taylor would have.
Excellent performance - any criticism is nitpicking.
