The latest player to be linked with a move to St Mary's is Napoli and Croatian defender Ivan Strinic, but although reports say Saints have been in talks the big question is why ?
The media like to link players with club's they like to make the slightest innocuous link seem like a bolted on certainty, so when you read that Napoli's Ivan Strinic is apparently about to join Saints you have to question where they are getting that information, if only for one reason and that is Strinic is a 28 year old left back.
The Croatian who has been capped by his country 33 times joined napoli from Dnipro in the summer as a free agent but has struggled to get a game at Napoli, prompting rumours that he might move in the January window.
But apart from the fact that Napoli are said to want 15 million euros for him, kleft back is a position that Saints are well covered in, they have Ryan Bertrand, arguably the best left sided defender in the Premier League and in reserve Matt Targett, a player who has shown that with experience he has what it takes.
There are reportably plenty of Italian clubs ready to take Strinic off Napoli's hands at a decent fee, so it is strange why Saints should be so strongly linked.
The answer is somewhere between the fact that the players agent is trying to push his price up and with English clubs paying bigger wages that Italian clubs in the main it would be in his interest to try and insinuate that there are clubs interested and that the English media are just looking for a headline.
