There have been many misleading reports recently regarding the appointment of a new “Technical Director” at Derby, but many sources are suggesting an appointment will be made official today.
Various media outlets have named one of the candidates recently rumoured, Chris Evans, as the man that will officially get the nod from Rush & co today and unveiled to help assist with all things football for Steve McClaren.
Evans served as Academy Manager at Wolves for 17 years before becoming Gary Megson’s, ‘Assistant Manager / Performance Director’ (I love all these job titles!) at Bolton Wanderers.
When Megson was sacked, Evans moved to Sheffield Wednesday with him as his assistant before Megson was once again removed from his position, leaving Evans looking for a new home. Despite other suitors being interested, apparently he has chosen DCFC.
In October of 2009 Evans hit the headlines for the wrong reasons, when he was implicated in a row with former club Wolves, who alleged Evans had acted improperly over the transfer of teenage defender Mark Connolly. A report was sent to The Football Association and Premier League but it seems little more came of the matter.
So now all we need to do now is sit back and see if Rush finally has his man, to look over all things technical... or to do with football.... or whatever the heck they want him to do.
Speaking to the media Sam Rush clarified things for all of us:
"It is a very specialist role and there are only so many people who are doing it at clubs up and down the country, and in Europe."
"I think people view Derby County very much as we do, which is a club of immense stature and huge potential."
Thanks Sam, thanks for clearing that up… I think I get it now...
