A year after arriving for around 3.5 million pounds on loan Mayuka has been shipped out for the season on loan.
Sometimes I have been criticised for my comments on Mayuka but I can assure everyone they are purely football based, a year on and my opinion has been vindicated, Mayuka has gone albeit on loan and the big question which we will never perhaps know for sure is how much Billy Sharp or Tadanri Lee might have contributed last season had they been allowed to stay rather than being shipped out to clear the way for Mayuka, who it has to be said contributed nothing in his time at the club so far.
Clarly Mayuka was not the signing of Nigel Adkins who declined to play him much, that wentvfor Mauriccio Pochettino who clearly also didn't fancy him either and now he will spend the season at St ouchaux.
There will be those who claim he is a victim of the signing of Osvaldo, but that is not true, just over 2 hours of football in total all last season was proof of that, even with little other competition for a place up front Mayuka couldn't get a game, so the only reason for his failure to succeed at Saints was the stark fact he just wasn't good enough, some mistook pace for potential, but as we have seen at Saints before speed is often not substitute for skill and a footballing brain.
Perhaps Mayuka will be back in a years time, perhaps he will be better for the experience, but I would be surprised if he has a long term future here, like sharp and Lee and even Steve de Riidder I think he will be quietly shunted to one side hoping that out of site is out of mind, sadly though unlike either of those three his contribution to Saints has Ben nil.
