Robbo To Move On?

It is starting to look increasingly likely that Andy Robinson's stay at the Liberty Stadium may be coming to an end with suggestions that the club and player are still at differences over the terms of his contract.

Speaking in today's Western Mail, chairman Huw Jenkins refers to crunch talks with Robinson and his agent Neil Sang over the new contract that the club would like him to sign

With new reported interest from Colchester to add to that from Stoke, Cardiff and Southend it appears that Robinson's destination may yet be the championship delivering a blow to Kenny Jackett's plans almost on the eve of the new season.

Jenkins said "In my eyes, we've made Andy a good offer which recognises his status at the club and is just reward for the improvements he's made here.

"We'll talk with him and his agent and see where we are. I'd like to think it will all be sorted out so Andy can settle down and concentrate on his football."

But Sang warned, "If Swansea's offer doesn't match our view of what Andy's worth, then he's got to consider all the options open to him.

"Andy's at a big crossroads in his career where he's got to do the best he can for himself.

"In the future the sun might not be shining on him as much as it is at the moment.

"It's utopia for a player if he's given the chance to play at a higher level and earn more.

"Swansea, of course, have the power to say Andy can't talk to anyone as he's contracted to them. Players are beholden to their clubs in that respect.

"But we'll all get round the table and see if something can be sorted out one way or the other in an amicable fashion."

And with those words Swans fans will firmly believe that the two parties are far from making a decision. As with any contract talks it's a difficult call as no club wants to lose their better players. My viewpoint would always be that the club have an upper limit figure that they are prepared to pay each player and that should never be exceeded. Whether Robbo's demands are higher than that upper limit I guess we will only know when the matter is finally resolved one way or the other.

What we do know is that losing Robbo will be a blow and one that we will have to overcome.

Time will tell but the signs don't look good.
