Saints have been revealed to be the 63rd best supported club in Europe in season 2011/12
With their average last season of 26,419 Saints have achieved a respectable position in a list of the average attendances of clubs in Europe, the top of the table is dominated by clubs in Germany, Borussia Dortmund topping the table with a massive 80,521 average dwarfing even Barcelona and Man Utd into second and third respectively, indeed the Bundeslige accounts for 7 out of the top 11 averages in Europe with England only getting three clubs in the top twenty, Arsenal & Newcastle joining United in that list.
63rd for Saints though is a decent average when you consider just how many leagues and clubs there are on the continent of Europe including the United Kingdom, indeed there is a chance that in 2012/13 Saints could enter the top 50, the last place in that tranche of clubs last season was occupied by Lazio on 32,444 just a fraction above St Mary's capacity, but with a number of clubs in that area all around 32k Saints could stand a chance of getting in the top 50 for this season, West Ham United finished 51st the highest placed non Premier club in the list with a 31,079 average, in terms of clubs outside of the top flight of their respective nations, Saints were the 4th best supported club, Eintrach Frankfurt & Fortuna Dusseldorf edging West Ham into 3rd and us behind.
All in all a good placing for Saints and incentive for Saints supporters to keep turning up in numbers at St Mary's this season.
