Clasie Tops Lazio's Wish List ! Wednesday, 21st Jun 2017 16:30 by Arron Sanders Jordy Clasie could be leaving Saints this summer , if Pule had stayed that would have been a certainty but will things change with a new manager or will he go, Arron takes a look.
The news Lazio are interested in signing Jordy Clasie isn’t anything new, the fact the Serie A club now appears to have bumped the Dutch midfielder to the top of their wishlist of potential replacements for Lucas Biglia should the Argentina international leave for AC Milan is however.
According to Il Messaggero, The Italian newspaper the midfielder is reportedly available on a loan with an option to buy of €10m.
If that is the case, then this means that Saints would make a profit on the 25-year-old, having bought him from Feyenoord for around to £8m back in the summer of 2015.
Once dubbed the ‘Dutch Xavi’, the Dutch midfielder hasn’t exactly lived up to those expectations, seeing his chances of first-team football blocked firstly by injury and then by the likes of Steven Davis and Oriol Romeu.
A lot will rest on the new manager, but if the Dutchman doesn’t fall into his plans, it might indeed be time for the club to cut their losses.
What do you think about the possibility of Clasie leaving Saints this summer? is it good or bad business for the club?

More talk of players leaving & not much of new players or manager coming in. No doubt we'll leave it to the last possible day as usual. If JWP is so good why aren't any clubs looking to poach him?

Has scored a cracking goal but just not good enough. Take the money

Let JWP go instead. Like allsaint54 said if he is so good why aren't any clubs after him.

I thought Clasie looked much improved this season, just didn't get enough game time. Hoj is a rough diamond, but I don't know if there's far more rough than diamond!

I hope he gets run in the team - I rate him as a player and he got very few chances last season under Puell, maybe the new manager will utilise him more and we can get the best out of him. I would keep him over Hojbjerg any day.

Agree Hojbjerg should go. Classic gives much needed forward mobility in midfield and he really irritates the opposition

Ideally, we should sell both Clasie and Hojbjerg and use the money to buy one good central midfielder.

Hojbjerg always breaks the play up were on a attack going forward and he always plays back

I wish they would sort the flipping manager situation out once and for all, and then whoever it is can concentrate on the team building. Why do we take so long on everything and all you ever hear is about people leaving the club? Every close season is a mess.

A1079: I’ve been saying this for years…The problem with Southampton FC is the board and management team. For me someone should have been sacked by now. I don’t understand why we couldn’t buy both Alderweireld and VVD a couple of summers ago. That definitely wasn’t beyond the realms of possibility—especially as we had the option to buy from Athletico. Today both centre backs are considered the best in the league. It was pure incompetence by our management team that lead to Toby going to Spurs. It’s pretty clear VVD only came to us because of Roko. If Roko wasn’t managing us he definitely would have gone somewhere else. Yet low and behold we lose Roko for unbeknown reasons… When I read this article it immediately struck me as everything that is symptomatic of how wrong this club is run. Jordy Clasie is a much more talented player that JWP and Steven Davis yet he got less game time. Hojberg’s had a season to bed in and needs to kick on. He clearly has much more talent than the aforementioned pair as well. The real question is why are both not getting more game time? It definitely can’t be entirely for sporting reason. For the five years Davis and JWP have been playing in the first team I haven’t once heard a rumour of both being wanted be better or worse opposition. Speak volumes really. Especially when you consider how much game time both have had!

allsaint54, you have to conclude that Les Reed is just useless at negotiating and incapable of generating any enthusiasm about joining our club amongst interviewee's managers or players. We invariably end up selling our best players for less than their true market value and often buying in unknown journeymen in desperation at inflated prices as the 'window' closes.

It seems as if there are more knowledgeable and realistic supporters on the home pages here as opposed to the pretend positive PR plants prevalent in the forum tittle-tattle twaddle (what colour is the lamp-post outside your house? etc.
