Saints Drop A Place But Its Good News
Saints Drop A Place But Its Good News

Results for Saints on Tuesday night saw them drop down a place, but overall it was a good night for us.

It wasnt a brilliant set of results for Saints on Tuesday night, but although they dropped a place, it still left them clear of the relegation zone by three points and barring a drubbing at both United and Wigan they should still be clear even if they lose both of our games this week.

Biggest game was at Villa Park where Newcastle won 2-1 to earn their first three points on the road this season, although this sees them jump above us this was perhaps the best result for us in the fact that it drops Villa further in the mire, a draw might have been better in the grand scheme of things, but sometimes you have to start wanting certain teams to lose games when playing a rival and this is perhaps one of them.

Wigan looked dead and buried at Stoke and this would have been great news for us as it would leave them four behind us, but they fought back to earn a point, but at the end of the day from our point of view its about points dropped not gained.

Perhaps the most disapointing result was at Loftus Road were QPR fought out a scoreless draw with Manchester City, a good point for Rangers but again its also two points dropped, they still remain seven behind us and there task is still steep in that to reach that magical 38 point margin they now need to win six and draw four out of their final fourteen games, can they go through that number of games and lose only four, I would say not.

As I say a night for Saints that did them no real damage but which could have been a lot better, however our fate is pretty much in our own hands and we need to concentrate on averaging at least a point a game, a point at Old Trafford would be a great help, but again we need to look a tthe bigger picture, Reading play Chelsea at home on Wednesday we really need Chelsea to turn it on and keep Reading right inthe bottom three, but for us its going to hinge on the trip to Wigan, its imperative that we dont lose, but a draw would again be two points dropped and will make it very tight at the bottom with some difficult games to come in the next month, but win and the table will look a whole lot better.

The way I see it it was a mixed bag of results.
QPR drawing at home to City was not good and their recent results against Chelsea City & Spurs without conceding a goal worry me a great deal.
Wigan after being 2 down grabbing a point was not a good result for us and will give them a lift ahead of Saturday.
Newcastle winning was a mixed result , yes it keeps Villa down there but also gives Newcastle a boost ahead of their match with us at St James as well as leap frogging us in the table.

You write off Harry at your peril. Reading face a weakened Chelsea tonight. Newcastle could be on the way up with 4 new signings. Wigan have been here before and know how to survive. Keep the faith we'll need it.
