Why is anyone getting restless? The season only ended a week ago! I imagine MH had a couple of days off after the last game, then he met the board this week and an offer was discussed. His team are now negotiating the contract. I'm sure he'll be announced next week, after which we'll start looking at transfers in and out. |

Agree with the_saint about keeping Targett. It was reported that no-one from the club has contacted him since he left on loan, which is appalling. He is someone we will definitely need when Bertrand moves on.
I imagine there's going to be a clear out regardless, but if we go down I fully expect Bertrand, Cedric, Forster, Lemina, Davis, Carrillo, Boufal, Tadic and one or two of Austin/Gabbiadini/Long to go at the end of the season, and maybe Romeu too. With Reed, Targett and Gallagher to come back in, we'd actually have a pretty strong and experienced squad of local talent in the Championship. |

I'd be happy with Silva or Hughes (and delighted with Tuchel). Dour as Mark Hughes is, he is well connected and respected so would be able to attract some top players here, and is unlikely to walk out on us (except for Man U, but that is a long way off). Silva seems a decent manager, but the concern is what happened at Watford and if he's going to wait for the Everton role.
I think Tuchel will wait for a bigger role, and I can't see Strachan coming in, nor Rodgers or O'Neill. I don't rate Bilic at all and although De Boer is a possibility, his reputation is in tatters after Inter and Palace, so don't think we'd gamble on him.
I really cannot imagine Eddie Howe walking out on Bournemouth mid-season, to join us, especially when they're likely to finish above us. Koeman has the Dutch job now, so no chance of him (although I'd love him back). Personally I'd take Nigel Adkins, but can't see it happening.
With respect to both, I just hope we don't gamble on putting Kelvin Davis or Raidi Jahdi in charge as a cheap option. Whenever we've tried that in the past it has backfired spectacularly.

Welcome news this morning. We have a chance to stay up, and even if not, build for next year.

Sorry, but I don't agree that our squad isn't good enough or that we need to sign a load of players this transfer window. Look at Brighton, or Bournemouth or Huddersfield or Burnley... would anyone say their players are better than ours, No, yet they are all above us in the league. They don't have better training facilities or other 'behind-the-scenes' infrastructure, it all comes down to the fact they have managers who are getting the best out of the team. We do not. The only thing that needs to be fixed is this, but I worry that Les & Ralph don't have the stomach to admit they're wrong, and also I don't know who we would get in. I'd bend over backwards to have RK back, but not sure either party would go for it. I struggle to think of any realistic alternatives at the moment... |

Once again we've sold a player for good money, and once again there is an outpouring of bile from loads of Saints fans. FFS, we are not a massive club, but we've been fortunate to have some wonderful players in our team over the past few years (Lallana, Mane, Lovren, Clyne, Shaw and Van Dijk, amongst many others). These players are able to play at the highest level, and as such move to clubs playing regularly in the top 6 and competing for trophies. Rather than slating them when they go, enjoy the fact that we've been able to attract such players, and have them improve our club for a few seasons. In the main we're making a healthy profit, some if which is being re-invested in the club. Virgil Van Dijk is the best centre-half I've seen at Saints since 'Killer' Michael Svensson, and I loved the time he was with us. I wish him the very best of luck for the future (except against of us of course), and hope the club invest the ridiculous fee wisely. |

The real question should be - why would we play Caceres? Yoshida and Stephens are long-term Saints players, whereas Caceres will be gone in June. He's here as back-up to those two, nothing more.
Puel is doing the right thing playing that pair, and developing them ahead of the probable loss of van Dijk. |

I really don't understand the hate towards Puel.
He has taken us further in the League Cup and Europa League than we ever did under Koeman. The FA Cup was always a tough draw, and we haven't done much in that under former managers anyway. I appreciate that we're unlikely to match or better last year's league performance, but to be honest if I'd been offered a Cup Final and 10th, or no final and 6th, I know what I'd choose.
Given the injuries and loss of Fonte, I think he's doing a decent job.
Let's keep the faith and support the team, and look forward to a trip to Wembley and possible Cup glory!

I don't blame him for leaving. If you aren't a saints fan, you're going to leave for £6m a year to join a historically 'bigger' club. That said, I think he's trying to get the sack by Everton, take a huge (c£10m) pay out and sit back until the Dutch national side come calling. It's an excellent career plan, as the Dutch have no other options really and his stock will still be high enough,off the back of the work he did here, even if Everton sack him. |

Good bit of business for us, and we can now hand the new manager a decent transfer kitty. Of course we'd rather have kept him, but if Scousehampton want to keep massively overpaying us for our players then why wouldn't we take it. It's strange that it hasn't dawned on them that if they keep signing players who got us to 8th, 7th and 6th that it's likely that is where they will end up finishing?! Meantime, we keep investing well and improving every year.
