Saw them at End of the Road and it was absolutely phenomenal. Then saw them at Moth club last week and whilst the lads gave their all, the crowd for some strange reason was just full of really quite old dudes who spent the whole show checking their phone. Was v odd
I enjoy the champo reddit (The "You Got Inced" memes a couple of years ago were stunning) but there's a couple of weirdo QPR posters on there who give me the creeps. Good fun overall though.
My favourite thing to do on there is to tell Americans asking what game to go to to go Millwall in a West Ham shirt
Warburton has become one of those topics where nuance seems to vanish and he is often pitched as this catch all saviour robbed of his time here by Evil Les and all that needs to happen is for him to come back and all is forgiven.
I'd start by saying I loved his reign here. We played lovely football, had some top players and on a personal level getting to watch his QPR teams with my dad in the last years of his life was a proper joy.
With that said, in every season in charge he oversaw quite sizeable losing streaks in each of his seasons with us. We were second in the league and took another 15 points from our last 17 matches. If fans had been in the stadiums during the first half of the Covid season, there is no doubt in my mind he would've been fired.
He was financially backed, failed, and left no lasting legacy for the club bar the Eze sell on fee. I know you can't go in for all the smoke and mirrors ITK stuff, but it's also a bit much to (rightly) coat of the youth system, but then indulge in some of the parts of first team culture he allowed (Andre Grey).
Whilst I have a lot of time for him as a human, he has also fallen out with pretty much every club he's ever worked at.
Love him, but we have to take the good with the bad and take a nuanced view of his time here. Obvs Nourry is a charlatan, but I'm not sure Warbz would be a success
Or more accurately, since the changes to external links and the struggles of growth on the platform that pre date Musk, most of our reach comes from meta/tiktok, with a fraction of the moderation cost that now comes with posting on X, as well as inability to monetise it because advertisers won't go near a platform where someone can pay £7.99 to appear like an authorised Nintendo account posting as a Paedo Mario. But go off queen.
Very telling to me that the first newspaper to embrace Bluesky was the woke Financial Times
I personally never subscribed to the "echo chamber" theory of twitter. I'd always think "if this is an echo chamber, why am I constantly presented with the opinions of people I detest???". There was always tons of very extreme right wing on there, and likewise, left wing accounts for banned for TOS violations fairly regularly too. Certainly Musk has let the brakes off the more rightwing stuff; the For You page is a sewer, but obladi oblada.
The bigger issue is that since he took over, the site is absolutely falling apart. Regular outages (several of Musk's Space sessions during the election didn't work lol) but beyond that, it doesn't work like it's supposed to. It is swarming with bots (PUSSY IN BIO), sockpuppet accounts and glitchy Temu ads. No one used to reply to my tweets bar a couple of my friends, suddenly I would get grief-y responses to even the must mundane posts from accounts with no connection to me. Letting people buy their way to the top of replies has massively reduced their usefulness as every post is just followed by a barrage of garbage. The change to external links has made me massively mistrustful about what is legit and what is trash. Finally, reinstate banned accounts if you want under the banner of free speech, but combining that with removing the block function (and seeing what people have liked so we can't keep an eye on the type of pornography our elected officials have a penchant for) mean you've got a lot of people banned for harassment and removed people's protection from harassment - atrocious governance.
I used to just use lists but even that isn't saving me from the crud.
I used to be able to live with its downsides but under the new regime, it's an aggy, buggy mess, and I cba with it any more.
Elon has also lost a lot of other people's money on the purchase. He better stay in Trump's good graces cos the Saudis are famously forgiving when you lose $3bn of their money
If we replace Marti with some no mark, I will be very very close to just knocking the whole thing on the head. Like what is actually the point of it all
My dad would always be adamant we had to stay to the end, and mostly I agreed, but I remember pleading with him to let us go home during the Newcastle 6-0 match. Read the room dad! It's not gonna get better!
Threads, my personal opinion, is garbage. It promotes engagement above all, so it always feels like you're walking into a conversation halfway, as someone makes the strangest apropos of nothing point you've ever heard
edit: found a good example, like what on earth is this
Long time bluesky user. It's so so much better - basically the algorithm doesn't prioritise engagement and it's control features are top tier. So it's really difficult to troll people, you don't really get stuff hate promoted into your feed, and there are some good lists available for like journos, footie stuff, etc that has migrated over
I had a bit of this after I fractured my ankle playing cricket. My calf got stupidly tight, but I struggled to stretch it cos it would set off my ankle.
Physio gave me some stretches involving putting a rolled up towel under my heel when stretching the calf so i could get the tension there without engaing my heel as much. Or standing calf stretch with your big toe raised by the same towel.
I found once I could start to get my calf looser, the ankle stuff eased up
I didn't want to post anything last night cos I was super drunk, but I've woken up still angry. Utterly abject. Nothing's keeping that rabble up, kinda hope Nourry does sack Marti, cos he deserves better than this
