Jimmy Greenhoff was also a player manager, mind you didn’t play much. Every credit to Jim for doing this, he cares and is doing everything he can for the club. |

Just sacked by Port Vale, nearly 600 games in management, c 44% win ratio, experience in the National Leagues took Bristol Rovers back after completely cleansing the squad, he may have better options, but definitely worth an approach. |

Accountability lies firmly at the top- the most important position in any football club is the first team manager, remember the board we’re going to retain BBM before he did a runner, who got us relegated and never looked at the table! The appointments of Stockdale and Bentley have cost us our league status, so those responsible need to go. |

It’s about focussing on the inevitable now - what sums this dreadful squad up is we sign a player from the National League who now looks our best player - sums it up ! We need to plan now for relegation and aim to stabilise in the NL - problem is we have a lack of football nous in the club, the biggest loss on that was Colin Garlick, since then it’s been a wing and a prayer philosophy. We need a proper footballing chief excec who knows a good contract from a bad one, a manager who knows the NL, who can give us a few home wins and a goal or two, get us in mid table with something to build on and a bit of hope, surely that’s not a big ask ! The current set up simply won’t deliver that, so let’s be realistic, identify the personnel needed (no first timers for goodness sake) appoint and plan for the NL now. Askey, Hill, or someone else, just get it done. |
| Forum Reply | We need Hilly back at 21:15 18 Feb 2023
The board allegedly went after Askey when he was employed at York, he is now unemployed…….. |
| Forum Reply | Jim Bentley Set To Be Appointed Manager? at 23:04 26 Aug 2022
This is a real glass half full or half empty appointment, but let’s go half full as no point in the other, he’s managed over 500 games most of them in L2, certainly knows the league, and looking at his profile and interviews seems to be someone who is flexible and learns from mistakes etc, and remember it’s his last chance too, so let’s get behind him, if Jim just ups his win % a bit we will get out of this mess. |

Askey, apparently known for working on a low budget, develops players, plays attacking football, and has more than a plan A, if all that’s true then ……….. |

John Askey now joint fav, there might be something in that particularly when you look at his profile. |

A good forum tonight, a no nonsense and straight manager who certainly has a plan and a board who are well organised, and definitely a sense of togetherness throughout, it would be a travesty if this was derailed by outsiders. If we can retain this current structure I’m sure we will see the benefits on and off the pitch, may take time but as it stands we look like we have a good base to take us forward. |
| Forum Reply | If not BBM then who at 23:13 8 Jul 2021
From out of nowhere Robbie Stockdale now 2nd fav, plenty of coaching experience at youth level etc, no management experience but maybe something in that ! |

And Steve Parkin has gone with him, so that’s two. |
| Forum Reply | BBM gone at 20:59 30 Jun 2021
All dale manager appointments are vital but this must be the most vital of the lot, one mistake now it’s straight to the national league, surely we cant appoint a first time outer either within the club or out. |

What price - the third coming !! |

A good piece this and this alleged model has never really worked, apart from bywater who never played a league game for us,how many of our own academy players have commanded decent fees, played in the premier league or for that matter even been good enough to be a regular in L1 or 2, not many! The real skill is spotting and signing players in the broken toy or under achievers category at their clubs, that’s where we have made our real money and signed some quality.Holt from Sheffield Wed reserves, Lambert - Stockport reserves, Dawson - Radcliffe Borough, Hogan -Hyde, Buckley - Oldham, Le Fondre- Stockport, Murray - Carlisle reserves, and even Done who we have received significant fees for was originally signed from Hereford. There’s probably more of course but that’s the model we need to return to, the basis of our success on and off the field. That seems to have been forgotten by this board, you need a manager and scouting system to deliver it, surely that’s not too hard ! |

EllDale- spot on, there is a certain amount of inevitability about it all, even at this stage, and last years home performances and form, even with our best players (now released) was poor to say the least ,5 wins from 16 games, and only 19 goals. So it isn’t good to start with and with 1 National league signing so far, no recognised striker on the books, little in the goal keeper department, loan players returning, reliably on youth that just won’t cut it as regulars in league 1, it all paints a poor picture. We know it’s hard for us and a lot of clubs but you have got to try and give it a bit of go, we seem to be solely about planning for failure. |

Nothing wrong with putting a statement out to manage expectations and we know it’s tight just like it is for business across a number of sectors, but the numbers quoted don’t seem to be an exact science particularly the wages we have saved with the released list! But to say he hopes we are encouraged by signing a player whose club finished bottom of a league 2 leagues below us is a different level of expectation! So whilst it’s great to keep going, one day Covid will be over and it’s where we are and the league we are in on the pitch that will ultimately determine our future. |
| Forum Reply | Squad - Who's left? at 20:00 19 Jun 2020
Not really concerned about the defensive options or midfield but the real focus on signings has got to be up front, Henderson has masked those problems for a while now, we had only scored 39 goals at the enforced break, Hendo and Camps got 21 of those, so we have that to make up just to break even, we have got to focus on forwards with what ever money is available, the players who are left are not going to solve that. |
