Whilst I'm a new poster here, I've been a mod and posting forever on qprdot.org. I hope you don't mind me pimping a little project I've been working on: I've been working since November on getting 'It's A Game Of Two Halves' by Frederick RJ Hartman published. I'm pleased to say we now have a release date of 18th August (Start of the new Prem season). From the back cover: "'It's a Game of Two Halves' is an extraordinary story of one man and his love of his team: Queens Park Rangers. But it is also much more than this. From the lows of losing Queenie - his ally in victory and defeat - to the highs of QPR's long-awaited and unnecessarily torturous 2011 promotion to the Premiership, Hartman weaves an emotional narrative of the life and loves of a football fanatic with surprising ease (for the non-football savvy) and expertise (for those who know and love the game as he does). Brilliantly funny in places, tear-jerkingly sad in others, this is a book for anyone who loves a good yarn - football-related or otherwise." We're accepting pre orders now at http://www.beatentrackpublishing.com/shop/products.php?cat=9, with a MASSIVE £1 off the usual paperback price if you have £6.99 burning a hole in your pocket. A percentage of the cover price will go directly to the Tiger Cubs. A small sample below: Away the lads... One such trip saw us head ‘Oop North’ to Bolton and the new Reebok stadium. We were in much need of both liquid and edible refreshment, and found ourselves parked in the stadium car park, where we were told that we could go in to the adjoining pub, as long as we “didn’t show colours”. So, we tucked in our scarves and shirts, fastened our coats up to our collars, and made our way in. Of course we didn’t stand out at all! Although there was a chill in the air, it was also mighty sunny, so the sight of six burly lads with coats done up to their chins and appearing to be mute did raise the odd suspicion among the home fraternity. And, as luck would have it, there was a nice round table we could all sit at, almost as if, for some inexplicable reason, it had been left vacant just for us, such was its location in the pub’s conservatory and in direct sunlight. Within minutes of sitting down, sweat was gathering on our collective brows, and we would of course have cooled off, had we the option of taking off our coats. We did consider leaving, but with no other pubs for miles and already having paid to park, we stayed and ordered our hot meals. After a nice wait in the sweltering sun, our food arrived, and we ate as quickly as possible, seeing as if we didn’t get some air, and pretty soon, there was a chance some of us would be missing the game through heat stroke. One of our party, however, was still tucking into his fish and chips: yes, you are ahead of me, dear reader. Queenie was manfully wading through a piece of fish we christened ‘Moby Dick’. He just wouldn’t let the damned thing beat him, although a few chips did survive to fight another day. Also, when we were at the sponsors evening last week, we managed to get a pre release copy signed by pretty much the whole first team. We're planning to get rid of it soon with all proceeds going to the Tiger Cubs and I was hoping to get some idea of your preferences. Should we stick it on ebay or just raffle it via multiple forums? The forum idea means that we can pretty much guarantee that a QPR supporter gets it, and so would be my preference. Thanks for your time and I hope I haven't offended anyone with my blatant promotion. Nigel |
