In an effort to embrace our rich heritage and especially the dark days of WWII the Itchen Stand will receive, during the pre-season warm up, a direct hit from a low flying Heinkel 110. Craters will also be cut into the playing surface to display the mobility of our young players in a ploy to attract bids from clubs with seriously under performing academies.
“My unguarded comments about the circumstances that some of these friends find themselves in were not intended to be a criticism of SFC management."
Of course it was...Mr. Bransgrove might just as well have denied saying at all. From what I can see there is very little "wiggle room" in what he said.
It's an object lesson in how to alienate a portion of your fan-base who do attend games to woo potential new fans who don't attend games.
Why are we speculating on this week's tabloid tittle-tattle. It's a week since we had an Oxo story let's see what we can rustle up. Adkins knows what he has to play with and I'm sure he know's who is likely to go out and who is likely to come in...if he doesn't he's not doing his job properly. I'm sure all the players have a clause in their contracts restricting what they say to the media, that's why you only hear are players commenting on the coming season through the club website. Do you honestly think Oxo told the Mirror he hopes he will start the new season in the Premiership?
@ SaintNick, yes it is...makes the eyes water when you're on a fixed income. I see Burnley's take on "harmonising" with European retirement regulations they have also upped the "Seniors" age to 65 but are allowing those who already in the scheme to retain their senior concession. I wonder if Saints will be doing the same?
Something that seems to have escaped you is the fact that concessions for pensioners started at the age of 60 since I became eligible a couple of seasons ago, this season the senior concession is for 65+.
For those of you likely to be complaining about a measly 35% increase be thankful your increase in the season ticket price isn't like mine...100% !
Happy birthday Ron, I count myself lucky enough to have seen you play for Saints from day 1. Always approachable and down to earth...not something you can say about a lot of modern players, especially those at the "top of the tree" as you were.
It's sad you live somewhere that knows little of your footballing achievements. I do hope you make it over here sometime soon...your presence would make headlines and be treated as a true Saints legend should.
If youngsters need a sample of your talents you can see them online on YouTube:
The constant flow of excreta from the football media during the closed season and transfer windows has led the average football fan to expect their daily fix of speculation and trivia. Why should our club join them in pandering to this newfound "need to know" over the last 10 years. The club site doesn't need to invent stories to draw in the punter to appease online advestisers, like the classic headline "Arsenal Complete Signing of Saints Wonderkid" from the last transfer window. The end of the season is a blessed relief...if you're a sucker for tittle-tattle prepare to be wound-up for the next few months.
