| Forum Thread | Scouting Analytics - Would this show up? at 23:39 18 Aug 2024
It's generally accepted wisdom that most clubs, us included, are leaning into deep analytical scouting to find players. Against Sheff Utd, their first goal came in a situation where Varane ball-watched and didn't track the run of Hamer which was something a switched on defensively-minded midfielder would (ideally) do. I'm not bringing this up to slate Varane or write him off after a couple of appearances at all - he's showed some flashes, he's young in a brand new league with new teammates all played at a pace faster than he's used to - I'd love for him to get up to speed with things here and benefit from our coaching staff. But my question is, would something like his failure to track a runner leading to a good chance (and in this case, a goal) show up in the regular analytics that tend to get compiled? Is that the kind of thing that is/can be measured? Genuinely curious - there are plenty on here who have more insight into scouting analysis, would love to know your thoughts. If it's not something that would appear in the analytics, then I assume it's the type of action recorded by scouts when watching players live/on video? |

Really feel for him. Bad contact on the penalty which is unforgivable. Could have been a heroic moment in front of the Loft, and you felt if we’d scored then we would have gone on to win (we should have won ten times over - what a game!). Personally thought (hoped) Anderson or Chair would take it. But much to like otherwise, in my book. He is so single minded about getting in the box and into threatening positions. It’s his reaction from 30 yards away that creates the first goal. Many times I saw him get across his man even when the ball didn’t arrive. And relentless energy closing down and hustling, all game long. Fitness clearly improving which doesn’t happen by accident. I think he will make a few key contributions in the run in. Hope is confidence isn’t shook. We need him, Dykes, and Armstrong to all chip in. |

...and Goss in particular (because we've seen Feeman play at this level for other clubs). Despite his first touch being a bit of a Gerrard v Chelsea slip nightmare, his second was an absolute pinpoint accurate howitzer of a diagonal out to the left wing. He looked very encouraging: good touch and awareness, constantly moving into space to receive the ball and start things off, forward looking with his passes, and instinctively dropped back into the defensive line when cover was needed. We've obviously missed that type of player since Faurlin... As for Freeman I didn't pay as much attention to him but also looks to have a good touch. Tried a few tricks that didn't really work, but signs of encouragement there too. Not sure what his best position might be, Goss looks like the base of a midfield three would suit him best, be interesting to see if he can play in a two (and who his partner might be). Obviously loads of ups and downs to come but we may have made some decent additions in this window... Matt Smith looked large on the bench! |
| Forum Thread | Pubs open tomorrow before the game at 17:15 28 Feb 2014
Need a spot for a pre match drink and my usual places (The Richmond/Defectors) don't seem to open early enough the lazy gits. Any suggestions? Much appreciated. |

| Forum Thread | Arsenal game date change? at 18:42 26 Mar 2013
Game is listed as 'subject to date change' - anyone know why this might be and when a decision will be made? Is it just TV schedules haven't been sorted for that weekend? |
