| News Comment | Southampton Board Split On Russell Martin Situation at 14:20:11
As Colburn pointed out nothing will happen before the Charity game on the 13th Oct. After that, who knows. If RM does go then I'd like to think we could attract a few quality managers - Potter seems the most likely at the moment and I wouldn't be upset if he came in. However i'm not sold on the idea that the squad is strong enough to stay up regardless of who is in charge. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Leicester The Debacle at 10:00:38
Can't really add anymore than has already been said. I agree with all points raised. Simply not good enough with a system that works better in theory than it'll ever do in practise. Sorry Russell but if the club is serious about promotion and building a team to challenge then go get Graham Potter. |
| News Comment | Southampton at West Ham United The Verdict at 10:07:13
I agree with all points made so far. We are toothless up front, limited in midfield and shaky at the back (and that's putting it nicely). I am like many resigned to the fact we are going down. In many respects if it means we have a clear out , start again and start to look like a good solid football team again then i'm ok with that. Its a better prospect than fighting relegation season after season with a disjointed and incohesive team. Not enjoyable for anyone The worry is that we continue to plummet - however, i'd like to think that is unlikely. Our priority at the end of the season should be to install a good manager asap. Someone with a clear vision on what he wants from the team, how they should play and the type of players he needs - I like the idea of someone like Potter coming in (if he'd want to) - He did a really good job with Brighton and with him messing up with Chelsea hopefully wouldn't jump ship too quickly |
| News Comment | Southampton At Leeds United The Verdict at 10:15:53
What a poor goal to concede.... For me Bednarek should hold his head in shame. His reaction to the shot was embarrassing. Just get something on it!!... some have mentioned he feared scoring and another own goal... surely that's the risk with any shot towards any defender in any team... its part of the job!! Bazuna is nowhere near prem ready IMO... is it worth recalling McCarthey for the Grimsby game to get him up to speed and then replace GB for the rest of the season?? (can't be any worse surely) As soon as I saw Walcott coming on I knew we'd lose.... what is he doing anywhere near the squad?! awful Not enough creativity, Alcaraz should have started - The big man up top looked isolated most of the game. Its all simple stuff which makes it harder to take - We hang by a thread at best now.. a miracle is needed to keep us up. I can handle relegation, it happens unfortunately, just go down fighting |
| News Comment | Southampton Offered Arsenal Star at 14:21:49
I would much prefer Garner. He seems to be steadily improving - Plus the Man U fans seem to rate him highly. Whereas Arsenal fans are not overly bothered whether Maitland- Niles goes. Plus his development seems to have stalled If we can move a few of the deadwood players on, get Garner and possibly another forward then I think we will have done well - I really like the look of Sasa Kalajdzic but can't see it. Goncalo Ramos seems to keep being mentioned but not sure he'd come here. Shame the Liam Delap interest has dried up. I think he would have suited us |
| News Comment | Everton Fended Off Last Minute Southampton Bid For Conor Coady at 10:41:49
Unbelievable... I read earlier that Wolves are now keen on McCarthy...smh. We could have easily negotiated a deal with the two players and everyone would have been happy. As previously said this should have been sorted weeks ago. Tarkowski is another, how many players do we have that Burnley would have wanted? We could have unloaded deadwood and welcomed some much needed experience well in advance of pre-season..... and that is just the defence..... I give up on this club sometimes, i really do |
| News Comment | Southampton In Talks For Callum Hudson-Odoi at 13:57:32
Get him in asap... Also, after the Spurs game we have got to be battling Everton for Connor Coady (or similar) haven't we?.... I'm surprised nothing has happened regards Liam Delap. Dembele or Sasa Kalajdzic would be worth a punt too |
| News Comment | Southampton FC Confirm That The Takeover Has been Completed at 17:07:35
I'd be interested to see if kraft and Ankersen will eventually replace Semmens and be the face of the operation. They seem fairly legit and knowledgeable... Solak's involvement raises concern as he's hardly whiter than white, plus being a tax dodger suggests he doesn't like spending money.... however, i'm staying open minded and optimistic about the future and will support the takeover until we know otherwise |
| News Comment | St Mary's Heading For A Sell Out For The Visit Of Leeds United at 15:21:37
There appears to be whispers suggesting that Ralph needs a win this one to keep his job. I'd be surprised if that were true but anything other than a win would put him in an extremely difficult position and heap even more pressure on the following 3 - 4 games. Now is the time to step up Ralph ....COYS!! |
| News Comment | Southampton Linked With Lazio Goalkeeper at 11:45:44
Always good to see new players come in to freshen things up and add some competition to things. I do however question how good our coaching staff is tbh. A good coach can improve any player if the desire is there. Some of our players are not fantastic but with the right coaching they should be good to hold their own most of the time. A sports psychologist would be beneficial (assuming we haven't got one) and perhaps better fitness instructors (because the entire team has struggled to play 90mins) Its highly likely we will sign Walcott - waste of money in my opinion - just read that Joe Willock is probably going to sign to Newcastle for £20m - How are we not linked to these players? it always seems like we miss out (KWP aside) |
| News Comment | Saints Can Now Breathe After Fulham Defeat Ends Relegation Worries at 10:12:26
I completely agree with all the comments made. It says a lot about the current state of the team, tactics, form and abilities that we have to rely on Fulham losing to Burnley in order to retain our PL status. Luckily that first few months of the season was better than the bottom 3. Had we have started the way we are finishing this season then we would be rock bottom with Sheffield Utd above us! This season has been a shambles. Granted we had a good few months to start and an unexpected cup run but once teams had worked out how to play against us (didn't take too long) and we had to rely on more than just Ralphs preferred 11 due to injuries the cracks didn't just start appearing they opened right up for all to see. Since the Liverpool win the performances in places have been frankly embarrassing. Another 9-0 loss, unfathomable tactical changes by Ralph during games, players retaining starting positions having played woefully for multiple games, underused youth and enthusiasm, Loaning out players which we needed, no apparent plan B, no change in formation from game to game, lethargic and often lazy performances by a large percentage of players, lack of goals when Ings was injured.... The list goes on and on We need to do something to stop the rot because if we don't invest in players, a player psychologist, better coaching staff and someone with tactical knowhow then we won't survive next season. I can't see how Ralph will improve so a fresh head maybe the answer tbh overall i'm fed up |
| News Comment | Southampton At Tottenham Hotspur The Verdict at 11:35:41
We are so predictable it's infuriating... Does Ralph not rewatch games and make comparisons to other matches? Us as fans do and see the same patterns and errors occuring time after time. I don't doubt the team is light on Prem players and that injuries have impacted the results but most of the time it's the senior players that are the ones underperforming. A real man manager would be the motivational inspiration needed to get lesser players to perform but that seems far from happening at the moment. Crucially though Ralph really needs to implement a different type of play that allows our stamina to last for more than 60mins. Its just crazy how it happens every game (even the ones we win!). On top of that tactically he is all over the place. His use of subs and/or formation changes during games have cost us dearly this season. I always said that since Danny Rohl left we have been winging it tactically. Like many others I fear for next season. I have been very Pro ralph but my faith has worn thin. I just hope Gao sells to a more proactive owner and some investment is made in the squad and sadly I think Ralph should be replaced too - Eddie Howe would be a great acquisition |
| News Comment | It Is Career Or Cash Decision For Both Danny Ings And Southampton As Man City Hover at 11:20:14
I think the important thing for the club is not to get to bogged down in a tug of war with Ings (or any player for that matter). Ings knows if he stays he won't get paid the 'mega bucks' compared with those that play for the bigger teams. This will ultimately be the driving force behind any decision. At Saints he will be played, he will be adored, he will score and should he find consistency then he'd still be in the mix for an England game or two. Offer him a decent deal, let him make his mind up. If he isn't keen and wants to move on then let him and get as much as you can for him. City will naturally over pay for players so it makes sense to consider a bid from them. The second important thing is to reinvest all monies back into the team with a strong replacement. Failure to do that could prove costly in the continuation of our Premier League status. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Brighton The Verdict at 10:57:33
I have to say I agree with almost all the comments on here regarding the game, players and tactics etc. For me RH has never been the same since Rohl left. It was clear in the following games that we had changed straight away. Since then Ralph has been treading water a bit and luckily COVID stopped the slide last season. It's a shame as he's a genuine bloke and I believe he means well and has the best intentions but 4 points from a possible 36!! thats just shocking, with or without injuries. The club doesn't help when they are not investing enough and with Gao's share of the club 'for sale' there is huge uncertainty for any possible new players and/or managers and staff. We are in limbo without a solid base for change. If RH is sacked or leaves who do we go for? would Eddie Howe be prepared to come here, would he be good enough for what we want to achieve? who else fits our mould? I think we should survive this season, looking at the fixtures, those below us have slightly harder run ins. I'd say 3/4 more points and we should just about scrape it. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Leeds United The Verdict at 13:23:07
I am a RH supporter but I still believe he has not been the same since Danny Rohl left. Tactically we changed overnight and since then it's almost like RH has been learning how to do what DR clearly brought to the table. Dare I say, almost winging it at times. I like the guy but I think he needs stronger people around him to allow him to manage rather than coach. Do I think we should consider his position? No. Given the current climate it would be suicidal to change managers. If the club is sold, decent investment is brought into the club and the club once again becomes a attractive option for new players then perhaps a review of all managerial and coaching staff needs to be conducted. That said I think if RH had the resources and the right support he would excel all expectations. Until then I guess the disappointment of games like last night will continue. I think it'll be close but I think we'll be alright this season and we'll stay up |
| News Comment | A Bad Day At The Office For Saints Now Just Regroup Refocus & Move Forward at 15:30:29
I'd like to see Diallo start in place of Romeu on Monday night, with JWP and Armstrong just in front. Theo and Che are working work well so no changes there. I like Djempo but in truth he is a bit hit and miss. His pace is disrupting defences and that is useful but he just needs to learn to deliver an end product more often. I am still intrigued about Salisu though. I hope he can get match fit soon as I think will do wonders for our defence, injecting much needed pace and presence. McCarthy is playing really well at the moment. Some of the saves against Man U were sensational Perhaps use N'Lundulu rather than Long next time and maybe a little sooner. Long can run but his goal threat is in minus figures. N'Lundulu is young, keen and a little unknown to some players. |
| News Comment | Saints V Manchester United The Verdict at 15:17:12
Bit of a tough result to stomach. When we went 2 up and almost had a 3rd I really thought it was going to be our day. However, like many have mentioned the fatigue set in with half hour to go and after which we really struggled. Personally I feel this the biggest thing Ralph needs to address. Against the smaller clubs its not so bad as they will be tiring too and often we can see the game out. Against bigger opposition we are going to come unstuck almost every time. Perhaps the hope is that Diallo and Salisu will eventually get into the starting 11 and give us more energy - who knows? Anyway, I still continue to remain encouraged and hopefully we'll be back to winning ways against Brighton next Monday. |
| News Comment | Saints Need To Focus On Three Game Periods at 09:52:33
Focus on one game at a time just like Leicester did. Keep things simple and we could be on our way to a very good season overall. Wolves are always a good measure and we matched them comfortably last night. 1.89 points average is excellent. As long as we remain focused, not get carried away and go about our business professionally then more points will follow. As for finishing 5th... Anything is possible. Its a very big ask. The big teams have huge squads of talent so I think Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea will be top 3, maybe not in that order though. 4/5th is likely to be between Leicester and Man City. 6/7th is more realistic for me, Arsenal and Utd are stuttering with inconsistent form at the moment but tend to pick up as the season progresses. I think our level is Wolves and possibly Everton. Match or better their results and take points from them over the season and we could be right up there. I do agree that its a funny season though, anything is certainly possible. Just keep believing COYS! |
