- Asked what a plan would look like if the owners stopped funding the club Lee Hoos (LH) said: “It looks primarily like my resignation”. LH: “The club is not a going concern without the board. If there came a time - and there has never been any indication whatsoever - they would not put money into the club, we would be insolvent. Point blank. That’s the way it is. "This is the only club that I’ve worked at or know of where you don’t get chasers about late payments – everything is done on time, proactive, above board. It’s extremely well run from a financial stand point and making sure money is where it needs to be.” Not sure if I misheard at the time or LH misunderstood the question, but I thought the question was basically asking if there was a plan to get the club to a position where it was self-sustaining and not reliant on the owners. I suspect the answer would've been the same regardless. |

Quick note in defence of Stroud. Shortly before the Zemura booking Zemura has given away a free-kick for pulling back, he then did it again and got booked with Stroud making it clear that it was the 2nd time he’d done it. Zemura shortly after his booking again went to pull someone back but stopped himself just in time. At that point it showed how useful yellow cards can be and their effect, and hoped Stroud might continue in that manner, how wrong was I…which brings me to Smith. If Stroud blows early when he went through Willock & shows a yellow, The Willock red card situation is avoided but also Smith is unlikely to fly into his tackle on Barbet where Barbet reacted and got booked. That one piece of poor refereeing saved Smith a yellow and cost us 2!!! Very frustrating. |

As I said in the MNF debate thread, I think McLaren has to adapt. Not only do we not have the funds to get players that he wants, but even if we manage to get someone in on loan it's likely to only be a short-term measure. For me McLaren has to do several things: 1) Realise that Lynch & Leistner aren't Moore & Beckenbaeur. Keep it simple, give Lynch & Leistner the sole objective of keeping clean sheets and that's it, if they have the ball give it to a midfielder. A well-drilled back four of Furlong-Leistner-Lynch-Bidwell should be solid enough in this division to keep clean sheets, and Ingram's confidence would grow as a result. Conceding few goals gives us half a chance in games and on it's own would almost be enough to keep us up. 2) Our strength last season was our midfield 3 of Freeman, Luongo & Scowen so let's get them back together, don't split them up by playing Freeman out wide, if it's not broken don't fix it. 3) Accept that our most reliable forward is Smith and work to his strengths, which means getting it wide and crossing into the box. Therefore have Wszolek and Osayi-Samuel out wide as proper wingers. |
