Nah this is him finally doing his job. Its like if Celar comes on and scores vs Stoke and then turning round and saying "see, told you he was good". This is something good he's done and if he's really turned a corner then that's great and we'll all be on board. But he's got a lot of ground to make up.

I actually get my news here. I figure if something worth caring about is happening, you lot will be talking about it already. Advantage being I also get a wide range of viewpoints on the topic at hand at the same time

The right to protect free speech (within reason) is an important one IMO, but I do believe we need to look at it in a different way than we did 20 years ago. "Offline" freedom of speech is linked with consequences - call someone a cnt, you may well get punched in the face, so there's always that system of checks and balances.

The concern with this being online is that those consequences don't exist in the same way and don't exist at all if you're taking the idea of maintaining free speech to an absolute position where there should be no restrictions. We SHOULD police this as a society but we don't.

Basically, act decently and respectfully towards others and you should be allowed to hold and express any opinion you want. But I'd argue we are moving further and further away from that as a society.

I offer no solutions, it just makes me sad that this is the direction we are all going.

Ownership of QPR
at 23:12 11 Nov 2024

Right, new plan. Instead of forcing these owners OUT, we force new owners IN. Good ones, with ideas about long term sustainability and stuff.

Thats my part done, someone else can figure out how to find these unicorns and then make them fall in love with QPR. Can't let them actually watch the games though that would put them right off.

Incredibly harsh on Nardi IMO, he's been great this year and a massive step up from Begovic

Jimmy's passes are always, always just half a yard too short, too long or too slow. Its a small thing but its frustrating. His target always has to break stride, or pause, its never just in the flow and it delays our counterattack (when we have one). Its little things like that which can make a difference

You'd get laughed at for conceding a goal like that in league 2, fcking hell. Absolute amateurs. Pathetic.

What manners? Nobody said you shouldn't teach kids manners. You're not even talking about whether an action is right or wrong. You're talking about teaching them that the same action (holding onto the ball) is right in some circumstances but wrong in others.

I don't know if you have kids and if so how old they are. I have a 6 year old. At that age they are learning the concept of right and wrong and things which are good and bad to do, but nuance isnt exactly a strong suit.

Trying to convey that holding onto the ball from the opposition keeper is:
Good, but only when we're winning
Bad, but only when we're losing
Maybe good or bad if we're drawing, depending on the strength of the opposition, and whether we think a point would be a good result.

It's just not possible to teach a 6 year old that. And expecting them to have to stay home as a result is nuts.

Now I have no idea how old these kids were, if they're teenagers then they are different and should be capable of processing that.

Only thing I can think is that he thought the ball had been thrown back by the crowd and rolled past Martinez?

Parents, would also recommend teaching your kids not to grow up and be the kind of person that goes around calling young kids "idiots", and also please encourage them that they absolutely should come to the games, even if their behavior at a young age isn't approved of by fully grown men posting on message boards.

I get that it's frustrating and it doesn't help the cause. And I don't attend the games anymore so perhaps you think that means I don't have the right to comment. But they are KIDS. And I can't believe you are actually saying that we should be encouraging young future Rs not to go to the game unless they follow a set of protocols that they may not understand.

If we have now reached the point where the reason we are losing games is because a couple of young fans don't quickly return the ball to the opposition keeper then we really have hit rock bottom.

MC has got to go
at 06:18 7 Nov 2024

Nobody at any point has suggested Marti is Pep.
Based on what he did last year, the evidence suggests that he's an above average championship manager.

Evidence this year so far goes against that, but while the degree to which you can hold the failures of this year against him are debatable, giving him credit for last year is not.

What makes you think that this board, with the evidence of what's been happening in the last few months, will not only be able to appoint another above average championship manager, but a BETTER one than what we have now?

Weirdly, Steve Cook's inability to correctly execute (which makes sense given the rest of the game) his attempt to take out Lath for that third goal might have been the best thing that happened for us in the whole game

Moving to the USA?
at 22:06 5 Nov 2024

Unless you feel strongly enough to propose, get married, then wait a couple of years before moving out, it's tough. Best guess as some others have suggested is through a work visa. Not sure of your line of work and whether that's an option.

I was lucky enough that my company had a UK HQ but also had an office in the US and they sponsored me.

Alternatively (check the math with a lawyer) you can do something like 180 days per year on a tourist visa. Can't recall if that needs to be split into two visits or not. You wouldn't be able to work over here during that time though.

To be clear I completely agree with this, I don't understand why people are incapable of showing respect for a couple of minutes, not difficult and the very least we can/should do IMO.

But if you're in a situation where that's the case, I understand why clapping (another way of showing appreciation albeit one less fitting for the tone of the occasion) is the solution

When you have 15,000 people in the crowds you are going to get some absolute weapons among that who don't have the level of respect they should and think interrupting is funny. If everyone is clapping it doesn't give them the oxygen and attention they crave.
