One substitute..... 11:44 - Jan 5 with 1401 viewsrazorjack

............how good would todays managers be if they were only allowed one sub?

From the 1965/66 season teams could use one named substitute to replace an injured player.

From the 1967/68 season teams could use one named substitute for any reason.

Forgive your enemies, but never forget their names.

I don't think the one sub rule changed until the 80s did it?

In 1986/87 season it changed to two.But the two were only allowed in League Cup/FA Cup.Still only one in the league.

In 1987/88 it changed to two for any reason in the league.

First sub in English football was Keith Peacock of Charlton who came on after only 11 minutes to replace injured keeper.

Leeds always seemed to get an injury around the 70 minute mark.Depending on the score.......winning defender for attacker, losing attacker for defender.........Dirty Leeds.

There's a bloke a couple of rows behind me who shouts "get him off!" about at least nine of our players every game.

Perhaps we should allow nine substitutes just for him?

Or get a substitute supporter to replace him.....

The difference between good and great managers is the use of substitutions.

What an excellent idea
Could think of a couple around me who were nowhere to be seen prior to our promotion, who constantly whine about Ben/ Neil, Michel/ Gerry, Angel/ Dwight, Chico/ Jordi etc etc.
Now we can't get rid of them. Substitution would be brilliant.
Ideal situation. A full ground of the type of supporters we had in the lower leagues but playing in the Prem.

If you wake up breathing, thats a good start to your day and you'll make many thousands of people envious.

Our first third sub I believe was David Hough.

The only reason it sticks in my mind was...I happened to be sitting next to a great friend of ours at the time...his Dad.
