Macc Match 12:26 - Jul 23 with 8966 viewsboromat

Just wondering whether to make the trip or not.

What type of team lineup are we all expecting?

Poll: What are we more excited for?

I was surprised to see Danny Whittaker (ex Chesterfireld) turn out for Macc in the second half, he was one of numerous trialists on show and looked a class apart in fairness.

We seem to have all bases covered in the midfield department otherwise Whittaker could have been a decent signing, i know Chesterfield fans didnt want him to leave the club and he was highly regarded.

Another promising performance and a good workout against a decent Macc side. The formation was a surprise, I think we played a 3-2-2-1-2 (Rafferty and Rose seemed a little deeper than wingers), but could be simplified as a 3-4-1-2!

The game was more of an experiment than I expected, but we moved the ball around well with a lot of one touch football played in triangles of players. Very much like the training CG described in Tenerife. Our ball retention was so good in the 2nd half Hilly had to instruct us to kick the ball out for a throw so we could make a sub!!!

Lillis - not much to do, kicking was OK
Eastham - solid performance again, improving understanding with Lancashire
Lancashire - same as above, solid, tried and failed with some long range passes
O'Connell - straight in and looked comfortable, good on the ball
Rafferty - did OK, didn't look entirely comfortable playing so far forward
Rose - solid but didn't look like a winger but you can rely on him for quality delivery
Tutte - improvement on previous pre-season games, though didn't dominate
Allen - another tidy performance, he's good in tight situations
Done - always available for the ball and looks a threat, has improved without the ball too
Donnelly - scored two without breaking sweat, Sodje was bouncing off him
Bunney - worked hard but looked a little bit weak, some nice touches though

Not gonna bother with the subs, but as has been said above Maynard wasn't amongst them. BBM came on and played centre half and didn't lose a header!

Brilliant. Can't wait to see this side in action.

He'd been on trial at Bury during their initial training sessions too according to some of their fans. His links to Macc would mean he shouldn't have much if a problem getting a deal there.

i thought the defence looked good, like that new signing from blackburn. Thought tutte played well, his passing was better than usual and donnelly took his goals well too!
