If we've got any money for him at all, let alone seven figures, that's remarkable.
I'll believe it when I see it. He was available on a free six months ago and he's been poor ever since. Is it an obligation or an option? Or is the decimal point in the wrong place?

According to WLS we haven't gotten any money for him.

There's an option for them to sign him in the summer for £1.7m but it's not binding.

I should think not! You'd have to be Stoke to get bound into something like that.

These references to Santos and Ashby prompt me to wonder what has happened to Osman Kakay. Surely, he is not still out of work? Why is he not featuring regularly at right back in team somewhere, albeit below Championship level?

He can't have much of an agent if he can't get a L2 or even a National League club.
Would Olly not be interested in him for Swindon?

My instant reaction when I saw the 1.7m option was "are retexo involved at Vitoria SC"

Good question. According to Wicki and Transfermarket he's still without a club, although I seem to remember mention somewhere of him going to Maidstone (in tier 5 I think)? Its seems a bit weird that someone that age who played over 100 times for us at Championship level can't get a job in at least League 2. But he's only been out of work 6 months, maybe he's been holding out for a job at a higher level than is realistic. Personally I always liked his attitude and work rate (and every now and then a great cross) but I was generally a lot more comfortable when he was in the opponents half than ours!!

On another thread someone mentioned that Kakay didn't want to go out of London on loan last season, I think because he's got a young family. That may be restricting his options a lot. Here's hoping he either gets a club or is financially comfortable enough not to need one - he wasn't quite good enough to be a starter in the Championship but he always tried and seems to be known as a good lad.

It's a shame for Santos that it hasn't worked out, but not a disaster from the club's point of view - picked someone up on the cheap, found it didn't work, moved him on somewhere else quickly to mutual benefit. The model will probably give us a couple of these every season and as long as they go like this that's fine.

Transfermarkt.co.uk lists Kakay as without a club and they're usually pretty up to date. It is strange he's not gone anywhere.

Apologies, I think I may have accidentally reporting this for abuse. My mistake

Feel sorry for him as it appears he wasn't playing in his usual position but that Boro match was brutal. It did genuinely feel like anyone that was pulled out from The Loft could do no worse.

Always saddens me a bit not seeing him playing anymore - yeah he had his bad moments but there were times (particularly in a back 3) where he looked like a decent championship player, really shocked a L1 or L2 side wouldn't have picked him up. Loved the Club too Kakay

That's actually not a bad shout at all, as he was playing for u at RB in the same team as Osayi-Samuel and Chair on the last day of whatever season it was that we beat Birmingham 3-1 at home. That was billed before hand as a game where we were going to be giving our shiny new young toys a run-out.

That was an Olly game, if I'm not mistaken, so he clearly had built up a relationship with him.

Swindon's comparatively just down the road from us, so theoretically there should be no reason why Ossie would have to uproot his young family to go and play down there.

Is location the issue? Maybe he's holding out for a London / SE club because of a young family.

It's still a mystery why a Charlton, Orient, Wimbledon, or even a Sutton haven't come in for him.

I like him. Never shirked. Really hope he gets what he wants.

Anyone with any interest in signing him is going to ask around and be told he refused to go out on loan and play last season, and watching the tape will immediately see his mental collapse at Millwall last season.

Predicted this time last year he would be lucky to get a deal at Bromley and tbh at this point he would be lucky to get a deal with Borehamwood.

Hogan Ephraim said this in our Patreon interview with him.

There was a perception around him that he wouldn't leave London, and so nobody bothered enquiring. Ended up going to Leeds on loan for a bit just to prove it was bolox.

He went to live in Leeds for a while to prove a point of principle?

I dunno, is refusing to live in Falkirk when you have a new baby unreasonable?

Also a video of Kakay would have more than a collapse v Millwall on it. He had some good games, especially early on.

One thing I’ve struggled to reconcile is that Hamalainen, who every manager who ever had him said was actually a good player but who shook like a shitting dog when actually on the pitch was always willing to go out on loan and live out of a suitcase to free up money for the club to spend elsewhere, and became a figure of ridicule for it.

Kakay, who was told by Cifuentes in no uncertain terms that he was done, whose wages were desperately needed to replace him with and whose replacement was literally in a meeting room while we begged him to go, refused, costing us a much needed reinforcement and is apparently a great guy who many would have back…

Now of course, living in a 7* hotel in LA or Copacabana Beach on Textors dime, meeting a new girl from Raya every night is hardly going over the top at the Somme, i struggle to see the two in the same way.

Football is an extremely small world, and anyone doing their due diligence on Kakay is inevitably going to be told that he rejected the chance to play football, preferring to see out his contract - the reasons behind it that are entirely understandable as a fellow new dad will be deemed irrelevant.

The same club would also be watching his tape from 2023/24 when he was costing us a goal a game and it’s going to scare most off. Some good games in prior seasons are going to carry less weight as you’re always only ever as good as your last game.

That’s a shame for him if true. There is a club further down the chain missing out on a dedicated RB/CB that is shooting itself in the foot if it’s applying those perimeters.

The football world is brutal!

I don’t agree he ever cost us a goal per game, but I’m not a football guy so there is probably something technical I’m missing.

I really wish him well. I only ever saw a trier who never dodged a game even when his teammates were digging him out.
